Germany naturist beaches

This is the naturist section of the west beach at List, the northernmost village on Sylt, known in guidebooks and on older signs by the nickname Abessinien. The List tourist office calls it the guarded FKK west beach and numbers it beach section 19. It sits on the open North Sea coast between the beach sauna to the south and a beach kiosk to the north, below high dunes in the protected dune landscape near the Ellenbogen peninsula. The FKK stretch is split into three parts: an unguarded nude beach, a guarded nude beach with lifeguards on duty in summer from 10:30 to 17:00, and a guarded FKK dog beach. The sand is fine and pale and the beach is wide, with surf and currents typical of Sylt's west coast, so the flag system matters. Compared with the busy Kampen and Westerland beaches it feels remote and quieter, and it is mainly used by couples and families who have come specifically for nude bathing. The beach sauna next door lets visitors cool off in the sea between sessions. A Kurabgabe (guest tax) card is required to use Sylt's beaches in season.

This gravel-pit lake lies in the flat Rhine plain west of Achern, beside the large crossroads at Maiwald on the road from the A5 Achern junction towards the Rhine and the French border, in the area of Renchen. It is a quiet, unofficial bathing spot rather than a managed lido: there is no lifeguard, kiosk or facilities, and the shore offers a mix of sunny open patches and shaded spots under trees. Naturist reports describe nude bathers spread around the lake, with the most pleasant and secluded area by the gravel works. The water is described as very clean. The drawback is noise: on some days traffic from the nearby autobahn is clearly audible. Information about this lake is sparse and comes mainly from older naturist listings, so conditions, access rules and the status of the gravel works may have changed; check signage on arrival, as working gravel pits often restrict access to parts of the shore.

The Adolfosee is a former gravel pit of about 30 hectares at Ratheim, part of Hückelhoven in the Heinsberg district of North Rhine-Westphalia, with the river Rur curving round its south-west side. Sand and gravel were dug here from the late 1960s until 1987, which left steep banks and few shallow areas; maximum depth is about 12 metres. A curiosity are four ruined bunkers of the wartime Westwall that stand in the water as artificial rocky islets, now used by nesting birds. Almost the entire shore has a path and is lined with willows, alders and ash, and the lake is used heavily by anglers (the local club has leased it since 1973), divers who value the clear water, and a sailing club. It is a protected landscape area next to the Obere Ruraue nature reserve, with beavers and many water birds. This is not a designated bathing lake: there is no beach, lifeguard or kiosk, and swimming may be restricted. A naturist directory notes informal nude sunbathing on the banks but complains about litter left by visitors.

The Blaue Adria is a group of gravel-pit lakes about 2 km west of Altrip, south-east of Ludwigshafen in the Rhine meadows, created by widening a silted-up loop of the old Rhine. The water area is roughly 20 hectares within a 35-hectare recreation site. In front of a hotel-restaurant there is a free public sandy beach watched by DLRG lifeguards, with toilets, showers, barbecue spots and a kiosk, plus a short-stay campsite. Nude bathing is not allowed on the main beach but takes place on the side: a long sandy spit known locally as the Liebesinsel reaches far into the lake and is used for FKK, including by families. A wooded island in the middle of the lake is a known gay meeting place, mostly frequented by men. A further tree-lined peninsula, reached by walking around the beach past a no-entry sign, is also used by nude bathers, including younger people. Space on these spits is tight, so swimming is the main activity. The contrast between the textile family beach, the FKK spit and the cruising island makes this a mixed and sometimes surprising place.

The Aggertalsperre is a drinking-water and flood-control reservoir of about 120 hectares near Gummersbach and Bergneustadt in the Oberbergisches Land, east of Cologne, run by the Aggerverband. Its two arms are lined with woodland, rocky banks and small coves, and the water is clear and nutrient-poor, with excellent bathing-water ratings every year from 2019 to 2022; mean depth is about 10 metres and the level can vary by 2.5 metres. The official bathing places are the Naturfreibad Bruch and the beach of the Freizeitcamp at Lantenbach, a designated EU bathing water with about 450 m of shore, a sunbathing lawn and a bathing platform. Nude bathing is unofficial and happens away from these: naturist guides and a Cologne city guide point to the shore along the L337 road between Lantenbach and the dam wall, where the spot is marked on the road barrier. The banks there are wooded and partly overgrown, with small private corners rather than a beach, so expect to lie on grass, roots or rock and to step into deep water fairly quickly. Canoe and pedal-boat hire, walking trails and a new art installation on the dam wall make the lake a busy day-trip destination in summer.

At the eastern end of the Kaiserbäder resorts on Usedom, the Grenzstrand runs from Ahlbeck towards the Polish border at Świnoujście. About half a kilometre past the historic 1898 pier, the fine white sand becomes quieter and more natural, with informal dune paths, and part of this stretch is set aside for nude bathing alongside a section for dog owners. It is one of the best-known naturist beaches on the German Baltic, yet usually less crowded than the main resort beach.

The Ahrensee is a 57-hectare lake just south-east of Achterwehr, west of Kiel in the Westensee area of Schleswig-Holstein. It consists of two basins, each about 10 metres deep in the middle, joined by a shallower ridge; the surroundings are farmland and a nature reserve. The municipality of Achterwehr runs a simple public bathing place here, and the district health authority's bathing-water profile notes that it is frequently visited by naturists. There is no separate nude section: nude and clothed bathers share the same generous, natural meadow, and a lake guide reports that the mostly young crowd makes the mix unproblematic. Facilities are minimal, just a toilet, with no lifeguard, kiosk or changing rooms. The lake floor is sandy but drops off fairly steeply, so non-swimmers need care. Water quality has been rated excellent in every assessment, with no history of blue-green algae. It suits people who want an uncomplicated, quiet lake swim in the countryside near Kiel rather than a resort beach.

The Aichstruter Stausee is a small reservoir of about 4 hectares in a sheltered valley between Welzheim and Murrhardt in the Swabian-Franconian Forest, in the Rems-Murr district north-east of Stuttgart. It is a busy local bathing lake: large lawns run round about three-quarters of the shore, with a sandy beach and a non-swimmer area by the kiosk, wooden loungers, a volleyball court, swings, an outdoor shower and a campsite right beside the water. DLRG lifeguards watch the lake at weekends. Nude bathing has been practised here for decades on the meadow on the left-hand shore as seen from the dam, beyond the barrier, at the rear end of the lake away from the beach. The rest of the site is used by families, cyclists, dog walkers and ball players, so the nude area sits alongside a lively textile scene. Water quality is generally good but can suffer from algae after long hot spells, and barbecue spots have been closed in dry summers because of fire risk.

The Aileswasensee is a former gravel pit, dug between 1958 and 1971, on the far side of the Neckar from Neckartailfingen in the Esslingen district, about 20 minutes from Stuttgart, Esslingen and Tübingen. It is a municipal recreation area with a sandy beach and shallow zone on the south shore for small children, large lawns with shade trees, a lakeside restaurant and the Seehaus with kiosk, changing rooms and toilets. The water is shallow, reportedly 2 to 4 metres at most, and so warms up quickly. Part of the lake is a nature reserve where swimming and boating are banned. Nude bathers have a separate, fenced-off area on the west side of the lake, signposted with an FKK sign: walk right from the car park along the shore, past the snack kiosk, and about 200 metres further. A regional newspaper describes the separate FKK area as one of the lake's features. The site sits directly below the B 313, so there is road noise, and on hot weekends lawns and car park are often full. Barbecues are banned in the surrounding area, and the municipality closes the lake each year on Walpurgis Night and 1 May.

The Allner See is a 10-hectare artificial lake on the southern edge of Hennef in the Rhein-Sieg district, created from a gravel pit dug from 1979 for the A560 motorway and landscaped by the town from 1986. It is about 420 by 230 metres and up to 7 metres deep, with no natural inflow or outflow, and lies in the Sieg meadows just south of the 15th-century Schloss Allner. A large mown lawn with some shade trees borders the water, the lake is stocked for anglers, and swimming and stand-up paddling are tolerated while other water sports are banned. It is not an official bathing water: there is no lifeguard, and swimming is at your own risk. Nude bathing is informal and contested. Naturist reports range from 'possible without problems' to 'almost impossible except at night', and one lake-guide commenter says nude sunbathing draws fines while another says discreet nude bathing works on the right-hand side of the lake close to the shore. On hot days hundreds of people crowd the meadow; the town once counted 800 to 1,000 visitors on summer days and closed the lake temporarily in 2020.

The Almer Weiher is a small gravel-pit lake set in woodland between Mintraching and Geisling, south-east of Regensburg in the Upper Palatinate. It is an unofficial bathing spot with sand and gravel shores rather than a managed beach. Naturist listings describe nude bathing as accepted all around the lake, and especially on a small peninsula and on a gravel bank, which together form the main naturist area. Its forest setting makes it feel secluded, and it is used mostly by locals from the Regensburg area. There are no facilities of any kind: no lifeguard, toilets or kiosk. A 2015 visitor tip calls it ideal for swimming without textiles, while a 2022 visitor found nobody bathing nude on a cool spring day, so attendance depends on the weather. Information about the lake is sparse, so check for signs on arrival, as gravel pits in the area are often club fishing waters.

The Altwarmbüchener See is a 45–48 ha lake in Isernhagen, on the north-eastern edge of Hannover. It formed when sand was dug for the A37 'Moorautobahn' and opened for recreation in 1982. The main sandy beach (about 3,000 m² of sand plus a 30,000 m² lawn) is on the west side and is often very crowded. The east shore is quieter and more natural, and large parts of the surroundings are nature reserve. Facilities are extensive: changing buildings with toilets and showers, a beer garden, kiosks, a sailing and surf school, and a 3.5 km path around the lake. The city's official page does not mention any FKK area, and we found no other source describing nude bathing here. Swimming is only allowed at the designated bathing spots, so any nude use is unconfirmed and would fall outside the official rules.

The Auesee is a large artificial lake (about 1.6 km²) in the Rhine meadows at Wesel, formed from one of North Rhine-Westphalia's largest gravel workings. Part of the surroundings is nature reserve. The City of Wesel runs an official bathing area ('Auesee/Rettungsinsel', about 500 m of shore) with fine sand, a large lawn, beach volleyball courts and a separate dog area. One travel article says the north-west shore is free for naturists. A seen.de commenter says nude bathing is possible in many places. Neither source is official, and the city's bathing pages we saw do not mention an FKK area. Comments on the lake's atmosphere are mixed.

The Kaisersee is a small gravel-pit lake on Augsburg's northern edge, on the boundary with Gersthofen. It lies north of the A8 Augsburg-Ost junction, west of the Augsburg airfield and east of the city's former landfill hill. It was dug in 1936–37 and covers about 4 ha. It is roughly 300 m long and 200 m wide, reaches about 4 m deep, and has a narrow peninsula. Fields surround it, but a 3–10 m belt of trees and shrubs screens the water from view. There are no big lawns, only small overgrown clearings and niches along the shore. The peninsula and these pockets are where people settle. The lake is an unofficial FKK spot: a German encyclopedia entry says nude bathers clearly outnumber clothed ones, and angling reviews from 2024–2026 complain about the nudists. The Lechfischereiverein Augsburg has owned the lake since 2010 and stocks it heavily, so anglers and bathers share the shore. The lake made international news in 2016 when an angler's line hooked a nude swimmer. Expect regular light-aircraft noise from the airfield.

The record's coordinates fall on the Reinhardsbrunn ponds, just north of Friedrichroda in the Gotha district of Thuringia, below Reinhardsbrunn Palace and next to the Reinhardsbrunn-Friedrichroda railway station. The ponds lie inside the Thuringian Forest Nature Park and are surrounded by walking routes. One printed guide, seen only as a search-result excerpt, describes the Reinhardsbrunn monastery pond as shallow and quick to warm in summer, still deep enough to swim. It says bathing there is not actually permitted but many people do it anyway. The visitors it describes are mostly locals and FKK fans, though it says the pond is not a designated FKK spot. We found no other source on nude bathing here and could not open the guide itself. Treat nude use as unofficial and the bathing itself as unauthorised.

The Garkoschke is a small bathing lake on the edge of the Spreewald, about 3 km from Peitz and 2 km from Turnow-Preilack in the Spree-Neiße district of Brandenburg. It formed in the 1970s when sand was dug out of an old inland dune to build the Peitz-West housing estate. The pit filled with groundwater, and birch, alder and reeds now line most of the shore, so it looks like a natural lake. There is a sandy beach area for swimming, and the remains of the dune give the surroundings a heathland feel. Brandenburg's official tourism site lists it as a natural bathing spot. A hiking listing tags the lake 'FKK', but no source we found describes where nude bathing takes place or confirms it. Visitors on walking and cycling apps simply call it a pleasant little swimming lake.

The Rodgau-See is a former gravel pit on the edge of Nieder-Roden, a district of Rodgau in the Landkreis Offenbach south-east of Frankfurt. It is fed mainly by groundwater, reaches about 35 m depth and is known for clear water. Bathing is only allowed inside the fenced Strandbad on the east shore, which the city of Rodgau has run as a public facility since 1976 and which can draw up to 300,000 visitors a season. The city's bathing bylaw divides the Strandbad into a textile beach and a nude beach that are physically separated, and it forbids staying clothed in the FKK grounds. Visitors describe the nude section as the larger of the two, with more sand and lawn, its own showers and toilets, a snack stand and a volleyball court. Swimmers use floating platforms out in the lake; the textile side has the main kiosk terrace and a small playground. Lifeguard cover is provided by the DLRG. It is an established mainstream lido, so expect a mixed local crowd of families, couples and older regulars rather than a remote naturist spot, and busy weekends in hot weather.

Rottzipf is the small river delta on the south shore of the Chiemsee in the municipality of Übersee, a couple of kilometres west of the official FKK grounds at the Feldwieser Winkel. Its shoreline is used as an unofficial, long-standing 'wild' nude beach. According to nacktbaden.de contributors, nude use here has two strands: the north shore of the delta was once a naturist club's private beach and is still used informally after the club moved, and the west side of the delta has been a free, tolerated FKK beach for decades. Both consist of a string of small to medium bathing bays reached along footpaths through a strip of woodland in a landscape protection area. The west-side beach is described as long and scenic, looking across the lake to the Fraueninsel with the Chiemgau Alps behind. There are no toilets, kiosk or nearby parking, and the A8 motorway runs close behind the shore, so traffic noise is audible. Sailors and motorboats often anchor off the bays. Note that the detailed reports date from 2000 to 2007; those wanting facilities, an entry gate and a clearly designated area should use the Feldwieser Winkel instead.

The Baggersee Alberweiler is a former gravel pit (also listed as Kiesgrube Schemmerhofen-Alberweiler) beside the village of Alberweiler in the municipality of Schemmerhofen, Landkreis Biberach, in Upper Swabia. It is a local bathing lake with a large lawn for ordinary sunbathing on the left-hand side as you arrive from the back car park. The only published report of nude use, a 2009 entry on nacktbaden.de, says nude bathing is not expressly permitted but is tolerated in the rear part of the lake, reached by driving to the rear car park and keeping to the right along the shore. Cyclists on routes through the Riss valley use it for a swim stop, and visitors on komoot mention plenty of shade. The water is sampled by the Biberach health office: in August 2024 the municipality closed the lake to swimmers for several days after high E. coli readings following heavy rain, and a similar closure had happened three years earlier. Information is sparse, so check local signs.

The Baggersee Arsten is a former gravel pit on the southern edge of Bremen, in the Arsten district of Obervieland, close to the A1 and the boundary with Weyhe. A single 2008 entry on nacktbaden.de describes it as an old gravel pit fed by an inflow from the Weser, where nude bathing is customary in the rear part of the lake, away from the access side. No other published description, facility list or recent visitor report was found, and the lake's official name could not be confirmed, so treat this as a low-information local spot rather than a managed bathing site. Bremen's established nude areas, such as the FKK section at the Werdersee about 4 km north, are better documented.

The Baggersee Dettelbach is an active gravel-pit lake just outside Dettelbach in Lower Franconia, between the town and the Main village of Mainsondheim, about 20 km east of Würzburg. The town's official bulletin promoted the new bathing season at the lake in spring 2024, and route guides describe it as a large quarry lake with a bathing area, so it is now used openly by local swimmers. Nude bathing here is informal. Contributors to nacktbaden.de (2001 to 2003) report that the front part near the access is textile, and that walking part of the way round the lake, to the right, brings you to the area where nude bathing is usual and tolerated, towards the back near the conveyor belt of the gravel works. They describe clean water, steep banks in places and little shade, with families at weekends and mostly men and older couples on weekdays. They also noted that ongoing extraction kept enlarging the lake and shrinking the lying areas, so the layout may have changed considerably since those reports.

The Grötzinger Baggersee is a gravel-pit lake in the Bruchwald forest north of Karlsruhe-Grötzingen, on the boundary with Weingarten. Much of it lies inside the 'Weingartener Moor – Bruchwald Grötzingen' nature reserve. Since a 2015 Karlsruhe city ordinance, bathing is only permitted from May to October, sunrise to sunset, at the buoyed public bathing area on the south-east shore of the south-western basin and in the adjoining training and diving zones; the north-eastern part and the south-western nature zone are closed to swimmers. The DLRG Durlach watches the beach in season. Nude bathing has a long informal history here: nacktbaden.de contributors in 2002 and 2003 described the long shore beyond the anglers' lodge as partly textile and partly nude, with a secluded lawn past the textile lawn used mainly by nude bathers. More recent seen.de comments disagree. One says nudity is tolerated on the stretch north of the dog-bathing area up to the portable toilets, with the textile zone south of a large bush. Another says nudity has been banned since the lake became an official bathing lake, and that an FKK zone next to the dog beach was being discussed. Expect a mixed local crowd and busy summer weekends.

The Baggersee Hirschau is a gravel-pit lake beside a quiet backwater of the Neckar between Tübingen and Hirschau, below the Wurmlinger Kapelle on its hill. It is one of two bathing lakes in the Landkreis Tübingen whose water the district health office monitors from 1 June to 15 September under the state bathing-water ordinance. A cycle path runs through the grounds, and the shore is broken into many small lawns at the water's edge, some well screened by bushes, with larger lying areas on the east side. Nude bathing has a long tradition here. According to nacktbaden.de, signs put up in recent years now mark which areas are textile and which are mixed, where nudity is allowed; most nude bathers gather on the lawn at the south-western end. Contributors call the water very clean. The lake fills up fast on warm days. There is a darker side: one seen.de visitor described exhibitionist behaviour beside the cycle path and litter in the bushes, and police investigated two exhibitionism cases on the lawn in September 2024.

The Baggersee Kork, also called the Korker Baggersee or Baggersee Kieswerk Vogel, is a gravel-pit lake of about 16 ha beside the B28 between Willstätt and Kehl in the Ortenau, a few kilometres east of Strasbourg. The city of Kehl lists it as one of its two designated swimming lakes, with water quality regularly tested on behalf of the health authorities. Lawns around the shore are used for sunbathing and picnics, and the season runs roughly from May to September. A 2004 nacktbaden.de report describes it as a small, comfortable lake with plenty of shady spots in little bays, shallow water for several metres along much of the shore (with steeper banks elsewhere), and suitable for families. The same report says nude bathing is only allowed on the south side of the lake, where nude bathers mix with clothed ones but are in the majority. Reaching the south shore from the car park means a fairly long walk round the lake. No recent reports on nude use were found, so check current signs.

The Baggersee Meißenheim, also listed as the Kiesgrube Meißenheim or Vältinschollensee, is a gravel-pit lake in the Rhine floodplain west of Meißenheim, about 15 km south-west of Offenburg in the Ortenau. It is officially classed as a bathing place: freely accessible to the public but without typical facilities. Komoot users note that some parts of the shore are suitable for bathing while entry is prohibited at others, so signs need to be respected. A sandy, dune-like area lies in front of the lake. The only report of nude use is an undated nacktbaden.de entry by a couple who say they always go there to bathe nude and found it very beautiful. Beyond that, no description of where nude bathers gather, how many there are or what the current atmosphere is like was found. The Auen-Wildnispfad floodplain trail ends nearby, with a barbecue hut across the watercourse from the bathing area.

The Mittelgrund is a large, clear gravel-pit lake on the north-western edge of Leopoldshafen, in the Rhine lowlands north of Karlsruhe, with gravel still being extracted on its western side. It is also listed as the Kiesgrube Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen or Baggersee Leopoldshafen, and the Streitköpfle lake lies about 1 km further north. A sailing club and a stand-up paddle club use the water. Near the access road are wide, gently shelving textile beaches. According to nacktbaden.de contributors (2003 and 2004), nude bathers use the wooded south-eastern shore, where many small entry points with little lying areas lie between bushes and trees as far as the angling club's protected stretch, giving good shade. A second contributor found nude and clothed bathers mixing across the whole area without friction, with a mixed crowd of all ages. Visitors on seen.de describe clean, slightly warmer water than nearby lakes and shallow entries in places, but no toilets. The water deepens quickly beyond the shallows because of extraction, so children need watching.

The Baggersee Streitköpfle, also called the Baggersee Linkenheim, is a gravel-pit lake about 2 km from the centre of Linkenheim in the Rhine lowlands north of Karlsruhe, part of a cluster of lakes that includes the Mittelgrund at Leopoldshafen 1 km to the south. It is the municipality's main bathing lake, with several beaches including a sandy one, a peninsula and an island. The nude area is on the island: nacktbaden.de contributors (2003) describe FKK on the island, which is not very large, so towel space can run short on sunny weekends; a recent seen.de reviewer also mentions the FKK island. The rest of the lake is textile. A kiosk and toilets stand in the textile area by the shore but open only when it is busy, mainly at weekends and during school holidays. Divers also use the lake, and the angling club holds the fishing rights. Visitors mention clear water good for swimming, but pollen on the surface in season and bird droppings at entry points.

Two flooded gravel pits at the Baiersdorfer Mühle, just south of Baiersdorf and a few kilometres north of Erlangen, lying in the flat Regnitz valley between the river and the Main-Danube Canal. The town of Baiersdorf runs the area as a public recreation ground. The northern lake, the Ausee, is the bathing lake; the southern Angersee belongs to the local angling club and its water surface is excluded from the recreation area, so swimming there is not permitted. The nude area is a marked lawn on the far western shore of the Ausee, reached by walking around the lake from the entrance. Elsewhere a sandy, man-made beach on the southern shore draws families with small children. The ground is mostly open grass with some trees, and the lakes are fairly small, so on hot weekends the whole site gets busy. Water quality is generally good, but the Ausee has had recurring blue-green algae episodes (a bathing ban in 2004 and a city warning in 2020), so check notices before swimming. Dogs, tents, open fires and loud music are banned under the town bylaw.

The Kiesgrube Immelborn is a pair of flooded gravel pits on the B62 between Immelborn and Barchfeld, south-east of Bad Salzungen in the Werra valley of western Thuringia. The lakes sit either side of the road and have been an official bathing area since the early 1980s, with a campsite, snack bar and beer garden, boat hire, a playground and a floating wooden sunbathing platform. Nude bathing takes place on the rear shore, away from the main beach and the facilities; reports place it at the far end of the beach section, and one detailed account puts it on the northern lake (the left-hand side when coming from Bad Salzungen). The shore mixes sunny lawns with shaded little coves in a wooded stretch, and the lake bed at the entry points is gravelly and stony but manageable barefoot. Water quality is described as very good, though the lake can feel cool. A recurring complaint is that visitors drive and park right up to the waterline, taking over lawn space. Further gravel pits to the north are partly still being worked and are less attractive.

The Barmener See is a flooded gravel pit in the Rur valley next to the village of Barmen, a few kilometres north of Jülich. The western shore is the recreation side, with the official bathing site at Seestraße: a sandy beach of about 150 m and a buoyed swimming zone, with water rated excellent in the EU bathing-water monitoring. The eastern shore and a small island are a nature reserve and bird refuge with a hide, and a footpath of about 3.5 km circles the lake. Nude bathers traditionally used the wooded back part of the lake beyond the official beach, an unofficial spot tolerated by other visitors, where regulars expected everyone to take their litter home. Since the city's 2022 ordinance, swimming outside the buoyed zone and leaving the marked paths are both banned, which limits where that practice can continue.

A sandy natural beach on the south bank of the Elbe at Bassenfleth, between Stade and Hollern-Twielenfleth on the edge of the Altes Land fruit-growing region, reached over the river dyke. The beach is fine sand with low dunes and bushes and was widened by sand replenishment in the early 2000s, giving plenty of room and many sheltered hollows. The informal nude section is at the north-western end: walk left (downstream) along the beach towards the fence of the former Stade nuclear power plant, now being dismantled. It has never been signposted. The river here is a busy shipping lane, and passing container ships send waves onto the beach, which visitors enjoy but which call for care when swimming in the strong tidal current. A natural Baltic beach on the Hohwacht Bay in the Plön district, on the stretch between Lippe (part of Behrensdorf) and Hohwacht. The coast here is left largely in its natural state: sand mixed with stones on the beach and on the sea bed, with water that deepens only slowly, so it suits paddling. The nudism guide nacktbaden.de lists this stretch as a place for nude bathing and notes toilets nearby, but gives no detail on the exact section, and no signposted FKK zone appears in the official bathing-water descriptions for Lippe (500 m beach, operated by the municipality of Behrensdorf) or the adjoining Hohwacht Kurstrand. Lippe has a marina with 183 berths and a campsite behind the harbour; the Kossau stream enters the sea just south of the bathing site.

A small flooded gravel pit directly beside the Inn at Bergham, in the municipality of Kirchdorf am Inn (Rottal-Inn district) on the Bavarian-Austrian border. The lake portal seen.de describes it as a place for people looking for an FKK lake and for dog owners, with the nude bathing area on the south-eastern shore: a generous grassy lawn for lying out. A lakeside restaurant, the Seelokal Bergham, serves food after a day at the water. The surroundings belong to the Inn floodplain, with protected breeding areas for water birds on the nearby Inn backwaters, so stay on paths outside the bathing area. Little else is published about the site, and no detailed visitor reports were found.

The Bergwitzsee is a 183-hectare lake south of Lutherstadt Wittenberg on the edge of the Dübener Heide nature park, created by flooding the former lignite mine Roberts Hoffnung. It reaches about 35 m deep and has an 8.2 km shoreline, mostly natural and wooded, with exceptionally clear water that has hosted diving championships. The lake has two FKK areas: one on the south-eastern shore and one on the peninsula at the southern end, opposite the village of Bergwitz. The main textile beach on the north shore has a wide sandy strip, beach volleyball, a nature playground, an open-air stage, paid toilets and a snack bar in a former lifeguard tower; another textile beach lies on the east shore, and there is a dog beach on the north-east shore and a horse access point in the south-east. The Bergwitzsee resort rents boats, canoes and bikes and offers camping, bungalows and floating holiday homes. Motorboats are not allowed. The water drops off quickly in places, so the lake is less suited to non-swimmers.

The Bevertalsperre is a 200-hectare reservoir run by the Wupperverband directly east of Hückeswagen in the Bergisches Land nature park, built in 1935-38 to regulate the Wupper. It has four side arms with wooded and meadow shores. The official bathing spots are the Zornige Ameise and the two campsites, Käfernberg and Großberghausen, which have toilets, changing rooms, food and play areas. Nude bathers have traditionally used quieter shores away from these sites: a 2003 report places the FKK spots mainly on the north-eastern side arm, both on its wooded east bank and on the meadow of its west bank, plus the north shore of the north-western arm. The county road from Wipperfürth to Schwenke runs about 200 m above the east bank, so access is by short paths through the woods. Information on the nude spots is old and thin, so expect an informal setting with no facilities.

The Bibisee is a former gravel pit of about 13 hectares, up to 6 m deep, in the Tölzer Land between Königsdorf and Geretsried, about 10 km from both Bad Tölz and Wolfratshausen. It was dug between the 1960s and 1980 and is named after the nickname of a former farmer. A privately run lido on the north shore has around 25,000 square metres of lawns, a 50 m water slide, a children's pool, sandpits, a floating bathing platform, boccia and a kiosk with beer garden; next to it is a year-round campsite with about 400 pitches. Much of the east and south shores is divided into small plots leased long-term to regulars, and one bay is a protected biotope. The naturist section is a fenced-off area on a sloping lawn, which an older report places between the tennis courts and the water slide. The water is clean and on clear days there is a view of the Alps and of gliders from the neighbouring airfield.

A large park in the Bielefeld district of Heepen (the record's 'Heppen' is a misspelling), lying behind allotment gardens opposite the cycle racing track. It is a nude sunbathing spot, not a beach: there is no bathing water. According to nacktbaden.de, nude sunbathing on the open lawn in the front part of the park has been accepted by clothed visitors for several years, and the rear part has many sheltered corners where people sunbathe nude undisturbed. The crowd is mostly young. The information comes from a single undated report, so check the current situation locally.

A former gravel pond between Bienrode and Waggum on the northern edge of Braunschweig, close to the small airport at Waggum. The south shore has a steep meadow with sand below that was used as the textile area; a footpath along the east side leads to small lawns at the water, and beyond a stretch of woodland and barbecue spots lies the traditional nude area at the back of the lake, quieter and more scenic than the front. The shores are lawns, usually with a strip of gravel at the water's edge, and both the slope and the depth vary a lot. Old wall remains with sharp edges lie in the water, which is why the city keeps swimming officially prohibited. The lake has been leased to an angling club, whose members have priority, so expect fishing lines in the water. Aircraft noise from the airport is noticeable with some wind directions.

The Biggesee (Biggetalsperre) is the large reservoir between Olpe and Attendorn in the Sauerland, with a long, indented shoreline of wooded bays and headlands circled by a lakeside path and cycle route. There is no single nude beach: naturists use quiet spots around the lake, which reports say is almost always tolerated. The best-known area is the headland west of the Schnüttgenhof, between Olpe and Attendorn, described as a large FKK area. Another spot is at the temporary boat landing at Imminghausen, near the rebuilt Sondern bridge, where trees along the access path are marked 'FKK' and low water levels expose a wide shore. The Blauer See is a small flooded limestone quarry in the Harz, on the stretch of road between Rübeland and Hüttenrode in Saxony-Anhalt. It fills the lowest working level of the old Garkenholz quarry, which was worked from 1885 until 1945; groundwater rose into the pit after it was abandoned. The lake is only about 95 m long and 47 m wide but up to 17 m deep, and its level follows the karst groundwater, so in wet years it is full and in very dry years it can almost vanish. The dissolved limestone gives the water an intense blue colour on sunny days, which is what draws most visitors. The 'beach' is a small strip of gravel and rock with only a little grass at the quarry floor. A nacktbaden.de contributor reported in 2006 that this strip was often used by nude sunbathers in summer, while warning that swimming is not officially permitted. The lake is a protected geotope inside the Harz landscape protection area, and most people who come are walkers and sightseers on the circuit path rather than bathers, so treat it as a quiet, small and informal spot rather than an established nude beach.

The Blausteinsee is a large, very deep lake north of Eschweiler near Aachen, created by flooding the Zukunft opencast lignite mine after coal extraction ended in 1987. Filling began in 1994 and the lake reached its final size of about 100 hectares and up to 46 m depth around 2005. It is run as a recreation area by a company owned by the surrounding towns, with the official beach, bathing area and restaurant on the west shore, a diving area in the northwest, and a 10 km path ring that is popular with cyclists and skaters. The north, northeast and east shores are a nature reserve. Nude use is unofficial. A nacktbaden.de contributor described a small, growing nude scene on the east side near Lohn and Fronhoven, in clearings between the shoreline woods, with groups also found further north; the northern shore was later closed off as a bird-breeding zone and patrolled by security staff, and one visitor in 2006 was told by them to put on swimwear. A 2015 report from the same page describes swimming nude at quiet times and finding a few nude bathers in secluded wooded bays in the evening without trouble.

The Bleibtreusee lies in the Ville forest lakes south of Hürth, inside the city of Brühl, about 20 minutes from central Cologne. Like its neighbours it fills a former lignite pit, and it is surrounded by woodland in the Rheinland nature park; parts of the shore are protected. A small beach with a large lawn at the north end has a kiosk and toilets, and a cable water-ski and wakeboard park plus a stand-up paddle station now take up part of the lake. Nude bathing has a long but contested history here. Older nacktbaden.de reports describe nude use spread around the shore, mostly on the side facing the Luxemburger Straße, with the main lawn kept textile. The same site later moved the lake to its 'no more nude bathing' list after a 2008 report that nudity had been expressly forbidden and that police were called. Since then accounts disagree: a 2023 seen.de comment describes mixed textile and nude use with more nude bathers away from the water-ski area and no trouble, a Cologne city guide still lists it as a place to swim nude outside the nature reserve parts, and another commenter says it is definitely banned and that city wardens check the bushes.

The Boberger See is a gravel-pit lake on the south-east edge of Hamburg in the Bergedorf district, dug in 1950 for material to build the nearby A1 motorway. It lies inside the Boberger Niederung nature reserve, a mix of dunes, heath and woodland next to the Boberg gliding field, and is fed by groundwater, so the water is usually clear with a soft sandy-mud bottom. The lake is leased to a Bergedorf angling club and open to the public for bathing. Hamburg's environment authority lists it as an official bathing water with a short, 16 m sandy beach and a lawn on the north-east shore. The nude area is on the south shore: a shaded forest path leads round the lake to extensive sunbathing meadows used by nude visitors of all kinds, and both nacktbaden.de and seen.de describe it as popular with naturists. Most of the rest of the shoreline is overgrown, with small clearings giving access to the water. There is no entrance fee, and because motor vehicles are kept out, the lake feels quiet compared with Hamburg's bigger bathing lakes.

The Bordenauer See is a former gravel pit of about 5 hectares in the Leine lowlands just north of Bordenau, a village of Neustadt am Rübenberge between Hannover and Neustadt. It was dug when the B6 was built and now lies largely hidden in woodland and scrub inside a landscape protection area. The local angling club manages the lake for fishing (eel, pike, perch, carp, tench and pikeperch were recorded in 2011), but an unfenced lawn on the east shore is open to bathers. The guide site seen.de states plainly that nude bathing is possible here, and a 2003 nacktbaden.de report says that at the back of the lake on the south-east shore nude bathing had become almost normal. There are no toilets, no lifeguard and no kiosk, so it suits people looking for a quiet, unserviced swim rather than a lido day. Expect anglers around the banks.

Borkum's naturist beach sits on the quieter north-east side of the island, around four kilometres from the town, near the small airfield and backed by high dunes. It is a broad North Sea sand beach run by the island's spa company, free to enter and open at all times, with nude bathing the norm in the marked section. DLRG lifeguards patrol it in season, and beach chairs and small dune cabins (FKK-Budjes) can be rented. Expect wind, open views and strong currents, so swim only between the flags.

The Bostalsee near Nohfelden in northern Saarland is one of the largest leisure lakes in south-west Germany, a reservoir of about 120 hectares and up to 20 m deep, created in 1979 purely for recreation by damming the Bos and Dämelbach streams. The main facilities are at Bosen on the north side: a DLRG-supervised beach with lawn and sand, toilets, showers, boat hire, a harbour and beer garden, and a large Center Parcs-style holiday park along the north-east shore. Nude use has always been informal. nacktbaden.de reports from 2001 and 2006 describe small coves on the north side reachable by footpaths from the cycle track, used by early risers for nude sunbathing, and a 2010 report notes a few nude sunbathers at the far upper end of the hilly lawn of the Strandbad Bosen. A 2016 report, however, says that since the holiday park was built on the north-east shore the nude spots have largely disappeared. There is no designated nude area and recent evidence of nude use is thin, so treat this as a textile lake.

The Köckern lake fills the former Köckern lignite pit near Heideloh, in Sandersdorf-Brehna in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district of Saxony-Anhalt, close to the A9 Köckern service area. The pit has been renatured as the Landschaftssee Köckern, with a gravel works still operating nearby. Evidence of nude use is thin and old. A 2002 nacktbaden.de report described nude bathing all around the lake and in particular right at the front where the access road reaches the water, with warm, clean water; a 2003 follow-up on the same page said this was not confirmed and that the writer's group had been the only nude bathers. No newer reports were found. Treat this as a quiet former mining lake where nude swimming may be possible but should not be expected.

The Bredenbeker Teich, known locally as the Bredsche, is a natural lake of about 35 hectares and up to 3 m deep between Ammersbek and Ahrensburg, just north of Hamburg's Volksdorf district. Its shoreline of around 6 km is reed-fringed and wooded; the Ahrensburg author Waldemar Bonsels spent much of his childhood here, and the lake is linked with his Maya the Bee stories. A small lido on the north shore operates from mid-May to mid-August with a snack van, a parent-and-child area and a designated FKK beach, as described by Hamburg's tourism board; a club-run campsite sits beside it. Older nacktbaden.de reports describe the front of the lake with its small sandy beach as often crowded, and a path past it leading to a reed-lined section with small sunbathing nests and a little island where almost everyone was nude. Important: Hamburg Tourism notes that swimming was not permitted in 2022 under Schleswig-Holstein's bathing safety rules, with the operator hoping for a change; check the current status before you go.

The Rimsinger Baggersee is a large gravel-pit lake of around 50 hectares between Ober- and Niederrimsingen and Gündlingen, a few kilometres from the Rhine and the French border, with the Tuniberg rising to the east. It is a popular informal summer swimming spot, and some descriptions note a long-standing tradition of nude bathing along parts of the shore. There are no facilities or designated zones; gravel extraction continues on part of the lake, so stay clear of working areas and signed-off banks.

The Brückelsee is a large former lignite pit lake in the Oberpfälzer Seenland, on the Wackersdorf side of the lake district between Schwandorf and Schwarzenfeld. It was formed from the same mining basin as the neighbouring Murner See; a dam now separates the two, with the Murner See to the north and the Brückelsee to the south of a shared car park. The municipality gives it about 150 hectares of water for sports, and there is a sailing harbour and yacht club with a few holiday homes on the south-west shore, while part of the shore borders Wackersdorf's northern industrial area. One family guide notes there is no official public bathing beach; seen.de lists a dog beach, toilets and showers. Nude use is informal. A seen.de commenter describes an unsignposted FKK area on the north side of the lake, on the north-east shore of the second inlet below the road called Nordgraben, saying it is busy, calm and clean; other commenters ask where it is and whether it is official, and nothing official confirms it.

The Rohrhof lake is a small water on the Rhine flood plain at Rohrhof, a village of Brühl in the Rhein-Neckar district between Mannheim-Rheinau and Ketsch. It is behind the Rhine dyke near the Rheinauer See and its water-ski park. The only description of nude use is a 2004 nacktbaden.de report, which says that of the lakes beyond the dyke, the left-hand one is a nude lake where you are left in peace, quiet enough to study. The site's editors added that it was unclear whether bathing or nudity is permitted at all, as the lake was understood to be an angling water. A fishing directory lists a Rohrhofer See near Brühl as a lightly fished club water. With no newer reports, treat this as an uncertain, informal spot and check for angling or no-bathing signs.

The Bugasee is the bathing lake in the Fuldaaue, the Fulda floodplain on the south-east side of Kassel between the city and Waldau, laid out as part of the former Bundesgartenschau (federal garden show) grounds. The surrounding meadows, sports fields and riverside paths form one of Kassel's main recreation areas, with the Auestadion sports park and a city campsite close by, and part of the floodplain is a bird sanctuary. In season, DLRG Kassel lifeguards cover the lake in good weather on weekday evenings and on weekends and holidays. Nude use is reported only on nacktbaden.de, whose entries describe a large nude sunbathing area in the old garden-show grounds next to the lake, visible from the bridge on the approach road, with free parking nearby and a kiosk; one contributor (around 2000) says nude bathing and sunbathing are officially possible there and that space is hard to find on sunny days. No current city page confirming a designated nude area was found, so the status is best treated as long-standing custom.

Visitors describe it as a quiet bathing lake with very clean water and several small natural entry points rather than a developed beach; anglers also use it. A 2008 nacktbaden.de report says the nude area is near the far end of the lake, with the rest of the shore used by textile bathers, and that neither group minds the other. There are no facilities.

The Burgsee is a small gravel lake at Natternberg on the south-west edge of Deggendorf, close to the Elypso leisure pool and the Deggendorf sailing club, listed by seen.de as the Burgsee or Badesee Natternberg after the castle hill nearby. It is a simple bathing water with no facilities and is also an angling water. Nude bathing reports on nacktbaden.de (filed under the Hackerweiher name) describe a wild, overgrown lake on the shore opposite the Elypso, reached past the sailing club, where in 2006 nude bathing took place along the whole shore: younger mixed visitors at the front, older couples in the middle and men only at the far end. A 2008 report says nudity is merely tolerated on what is fishing land, that the spot had become heavily male and cruisy with occasional trouble with voyeurs, and that the water sometimes smelled. A reply the same year disagreed, saying voyeurs were driven off and many lone women sunbathed there without issue. No newer reports were found.

The Burkheimer Baggersee is a gravel-pit lake of about 5 hectares directly behind the Rhine dyke at Burkheim, a wine village of Vogtsburg on the western edge of the Kaiserstuhl, north-west of Breisach. It is a natural, unsupervised bathing lake with a sunbathing lawn and parking, water quality rated very good in recent tests, and access until 20:30; grilling is not allowed, and anglers say it is crowded with bathers in summer. Nude use is occasional. A nacktbaden.de contributor reports some nude bathing at the lake, with a shady lawn running along the north and west shores and a sandy section next to the gravel works buildings. Expect a mainly textile crowd and very limited parking on Sundays.

The Burkwanger Baggersee is a quiet former gravel lake of about 7 hectares and up to 11 m deep at Burkwang, east of Isny im Allgäu in the Württemberg Allgäu. It lies in open countryside a few hundred metres from the village sports ground, with clear water that also attracts divers. It is not an official bathing lake: the water is leased to an angling club, and visitors report that anglers have priority over swimmers. The lake has an informal division by shore. A 2004 nacktbaden.de report says the west side is textile and the east side nude, and a recent seen.de comment praises the nude area there. Regular visitors describe it as idyllic and undeveloped. There are no facilities.

The Buxinsee is a small, quiet lake in the Barnim district of Brandenburg, between the A11 junction at Britz and the town of Joachimsthal, at the edge of the Schorfheide forest. It has no lido or facilities; nude use is informal and has been reported by naturists since at least 2003. The best-known spot is on the west side, where a short forest track (closed to cars by a barrier) leads about 200 m through beech woodland to a secluded strip of shore that visitors describe as a lonely FKK beach. A 2011 report adds that the east side has a series of small bathing spots where nude swimming is also usual, and that the banks there shelve gently, which makes them easier for children. Expect a natural lakeshore with forest shade rather than a sandy beach, few people on most days, and nothing to buy on site: bring water and food. Because the information comes from a handful of older visitor reports, check conditions on arrival.

The Bärwalder See is a flooded lignite pit of about 1,300 hectares between Boxberg and Uhyst in Upper Lusatia, the largest lake in Saxony and the eastern gateway to the Lusatian Lake District. The main beach is on the Boxberg shore below the promenade: more than a kilometre of fine, man-made sand divided into a textile beach, a separate FKK beach and a dog beach. The nude section adjoins the textile beach and is separated from it by a low earth bank; one walking guide places it at the southern end of the beach strip. The water is very clear, with visibility reported up to 10 m, and the swimming areas are marked with buoys. Behind the beach are a tourist information point with toilets and showers, a beach bar renting loungers, a snack stand and the Sternencamp campsite. The lake also has a separate kite and surf beach and a marina. A 2014 report also mentions a nude section at the back of the beach near Uhyst on the opposite shore.

The Bömbachsee is a small bathing lake in the Bömbach valley between Spielberg (a district of Altensteig) and Egenhausen in the northern Black Forest, Kreis Calw. It is listed as a simple EU-monitored bathing place, and its water quality has been classed at least 'good' for several years running. There is no restaurant or kiosk directly at the lake, so it is a quiet, low-key spot surrounded by meadows and woodland in the Schwarzwald Mitte/Nord nature park, used mainly by locals. Nude use is occasional and unofficial. The only first-hand account, on nacktbaden.de from 2008, says few people bathe nude here but that it had never caused problems and was not expressly forbidden; the contributor suggested keeping to the left-hand shore as seen from the car park, where it bothered nobody. Treat it as a textile lake where a discreet nude swim may be tolerated rather than as a nude beach.

The Bürgerseen are three small lakes, the Oberer, Mittlerer and Unterer See, in the Talwald forest between Kirchheim unter Teck and Nürtingen at the foot of the Swabian Alb, about 40 km south-east of Stuttgart. They are a popular day-trip spot for the Stuttgart region. Swimming is permitted only in the Unterer See, the largest; the other two are reported to be protected. The bathing lake has a large sloping lawn, official grill places, a kiosk, toilets and a restaurant, and a small children's platform in the water. Nude use is informal. A 2001 nacktbaden.de report says that textile bathers are the majority at and in the water, but that if you climb the lawn to where it flattens out at the top you find only nude sunbathers. Recent seen.de comments disagree, one saying FKK is not allowed and another that it is possible here.

The Carwitzer See is one of the clear, deep lakes of the Feldberger Seenlandschaft in south-eastern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, next to the village of Carwitz where the writer Hans Fallada lived. The nude bathing area is on the Bohnenwerder, a wooded island-peninsula reached on foot from the village over a hill and a small bridge. Naturists have used it since at least 2000, and visitor reports say that nude bathers spread across the whole Bohnenwerder while clothed visitors are rare. The first and largest spot is a big meadow climbing up a slope, popular with families and groups; two smaller lawns with reasonable water entry lie further on, and the spot at the northern tip is the quietest. Elsewhere the shore is lined with large boulders. The water gets deep within a few metres and stays cool even in hot weather. There are no facilities at all on the Bohnenwerder. The area lies in a protected landscape, so stick to existing paths and take rubbish home.

The Badesee Coswig-Kötitz is a former gravel pit on the right bank of the Elbe in Coswig, between Radebeul and Meißen, run by the town-owned Technische Werke Coswig as a combined lake bath and outdoor pool. The 21-hectare grounds include a natural lake of about 7 hectares with a swimming island, a 25 m pool, a fun pool with a 47 m slide, a paddling pool, large lawns, sports courts, a restaurant and snack bar, and a campsite. The operator lists a generously laid-out FKK beach as part of the facilities. Visitor reports put the FKK area at the far side of the grounds, roughly a ten-minute walk from the entrance, which keeps it separate from the busy family areas near the pools. The lake has sand entries and gently shelving sections. It is a paid, staffed facility rather than a wild beach, which makes it a straightforward choice for a day of nude swimming with services close by, and it sits directly on the Elbe cycle route.

This is the wooded east bank of the Dahme where it widens into the Langer See in Treptow-Köpenick, below the Müggelberge in south-east Berlin. The coordinates match a spot on the Langer See shore that naturists have used for years. A 2002 report described several kilometres of the Dahme bank beyond Köpenick as a de facto FKK area, with almost everyone bathing nude; it is mostly forest shore with occasional short stretches of sand, many quiet nooks, and clean water. The Langer See itself is about 11 km long and on average around 220 m wide, with boat traffic in the main channel. There are no facilities on this shore: it is a free, informal bathing area in the forest, and the paid lidos at Wendenschloß and Grünau are the nearest places with services. It is popular on hot days, so the small sandy spots fill early.

The Diemelsee is a reservoir of about 165 hectares on the Diemel, straddling the border between the Waldecker Land in northern Hesse and the Hochsauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia, with Heringhausen and Helminghausen on its shores. Its water has been rated excellent in EU bathing-water monitoring. According to naturist reports going back many years, the FKK shore is at the upper end of the lake towards Bontkirchen, away from the lidos and campsites. It is a strip of roughly 200 to 300 m of grassy, bushy bank reached on foot from a forest car park, where nude bathing has been practised for a long time. This is a natural shoreline, not a beach: lying spots are scattered between scrub, and there are no facilities. The bank runs directly alongside a cycling and walking path and can be seen from it, which brings passers-by. Whether the area is still signposted is disputed in recent comments, so treat it as an informal spot.

The Rhine bank at Dienheim lies on the left side of the river between Mainz and Worms, below Oppenheim, in the Rhine floodplain towards Gimbsheim. The area was once used as a military training ground and is now a local recreation area inside a protected floodplain landscape. The shore is divided by groynes into a series of small bays, where the bank shelves gently into the water over a mix of sand and gravel. Most visitors are clothed, but a naturist report says nude bathing is possible without problems, although nude bathers are in the minority. The access roads are closed to cars, which keeps the area quiet. Remember that this is the Rhine: currents near the groyne tips and passing ships make swimming hazardous, so stay in the calm water of the bays. There are no facilities, and as it is a nature reserve, take all rubbish home.

The Dietenbachsee is a small lake in Freiburg's Weingarten district, created in 1981 during road construction and now set in the Dietenbachpark, a large urban park with lawns, playgrounds and asphalt paths popular with walkers, cyclists and inline skaters. It is a popular city bathing lake from late May to September. According to a naturist report, nude sunbathing and bathing are practised and tolerated on the lawns along the north-east shore, where litter bins are provided; the rest of the park is used by clothed visitors and families. Expect an urban setting with many people around on warm days rather than seclusion. The nearby Flückiger See, about 1.5 km away, has a similar tolerated nude area on its north shore.

The Baggersee Diez at Altendiez, near Diez on the Lahn, is a former limestone quarry in the Nassau nature park that was opened for bathing and diving in 1975. Steep limestone walls surround clear, turquoise and rather cool water, 8 to 10 m deep in most places and around 15 m at the deepest, with sunken objects for divers. Because the banks drop steeply, entry is via a ramp, stairs and iron ladders; it is suitable only for confident swimmers. The site is run by an operator who charges admission, and a dive base is on site. Naturist reports describe a separate, signposted FKK section on the far side of the lake, reached by walking round from the entrance (going left round the lake), with mostly grassy lying areas, some screened from view and some not. The FKK crowd is described as mixed and friendly. The kiosk is on the opposite side, so bring drinks for a full day.

The Dippelsdorfer Teich is one of the Moritzburg ponds just north of Dresden, used for fish farming, nature conservation and recreation. Its shores are famous in art history: until 1911 the Brücke painters Kirchner, Heckel and Pechstein came here to paint bathers, and the Rotes Haus on the shore is a reconstruction of the red bathhouse they depicted. Nude bathing here is not official, but naturists report it has been tolerated for more than 50 years. Two areas are named: the Friedewald shore on the main pond, a flat, tree-lined bank with benches where, according to a regular, there is no dress code and nudity is normal; and the hill across the railway from the Rotes Haus, used for FKK, while the area right at the Rotes Haus is mostly clothed. The water is shallow with a stony entry and a sandbank in the middle; the far shore is about 375 m across. Visitors are a mix of pensioners, young families, couples and, at weekends, many students. There are no kiosks, toilets or showers at the Friedewald shore; only the campsite Bad Sonnenland on the neighbouring pond has services. Dogs are allowed.

The Edderitzer See is a flooded former lignite open-cast mine near Edderitz, part of the town of Südliches Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district of Saxony-Anhalt, between Köthen and Halle. It filled with groundwater in the late 1950s and has since become a green, natural recreation area. Bathing centres on the Seebad Edderitz on the west shore, an officially monitored EU bathing site with a beach of about 400 m, split into sand and grass sections, a beach café, a playground, toilets and a campsite. According to the campsite listing, a separately marked FKK zone lies directly by the site on this beach, so nude bathers have their own section within a serviced lake bath. A path of more than 3 km runs around the lake. Information about the FKK section is limited to this listing, so check its current extent on arrival.

The Edelmannsee is a former lignite-mining lake in the Oberpfälzer Seenland north of Schwandorf, in the municipality of Wackersdorf, opposite the larger Murner See. Unlike its neighbours with paid lidos and holiday infrastructure, it has no facilities and is reached along farm tracks, which kept it a quiet spot that naturists have used for years. A 2009 report described the water as excellent and the lake as used almost exclusively by nude bathers apart from anglers. Since 2010, however, the situation has been tense: the mayor of Wackersdorf moved to stop nude bathing here, police patrols were ordered, and a 2011 report describes regular patrols, recorded personal details and complaints filed by the municipality and anglers, as well as new footpaths and a Nordic-walking course routed through the former lying areas. Other reports from 2010 and 2011 said nude bathing continued without problems. Expect a natural shore with little shade, and be aware that nude bathing is actively discouraged by the municipality.

The Eibsee sits at almost 1,000 m below the north face of the Zugspitze near Grainau, south-west of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and is often called one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany for its green, very clear water, small islands and mountain views. The lake is privately owned (by the Rieppel family and the Eibsee hotel), but swimming is allowed from many points around the shore. The nude bathing area is the Braxenbucht, a bay on the far side of the lake from the main car park, reached from the circular path; naturists have gathered here since at least 2003, and a travel blog describes it as a small, separate FKK section. You can lie on the shore of the bay or swim out to the small islands in front of it. Visitor reports count around 10 to 30 people on weekdays and up to about 70 at weekends, of all ages. The water stays cold because of the altitude, so July and August are best. There are no facilities in the bay itself; the hotel, kiosks and toilets are by the car park.

The Eichbaumsee is a groundwater-fed lake in the Vier- und Marschlande in Hamburg-Bergedorf, created by sand extraction between 1972 and 1976 beside a side arm of the Dove-Elbe, next to the Allermöhe district. Nude bathing is long established on the narrow tongue of land between the lake and the Dove-Elbe, where several lawns are used by naturists although water access is possible only at a few points. At the south-east end there is also a small sandy beach where nude and clothed bathers share the space. The opposite side of the lake is almost entirely clothed and has snack stands. The lake's big problem is water quality: in hot summers massive blooms of toxic blue-green algae are common, and the city regularly closes the bathing sites. In 2026 the north bathing site stayed closed and the east site was closed for algae from late August. There is no lifeguard on duty. Check the city's bathing-water status before you go.

The Einfelder See is a shallow lake of about 1.8 km² on the northern edge of Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein, about 3 km long and up to 8.4 m deep, with the village of Mühbrook at its northern tip and the Neumünster district of Einfeld at its southern end. The west shore is a nature reserve; the east side has beaches, lawns and boat access, and an 8 km circular path runs round the lake. Naturist reports going back to 2000 place the nude area north of the main bathing beach at the Einfelder Schanze on the L381: walking north along the beach, a footpath leads into a belt of bushes, where small sunny bays screened from view are used for nude bathing. How much space there is depends on the water level. Opinions on the current situation differ: one undated comment claims FKK has been banned and policed for a couple of years, and a 2006 visitor saw no nude bathers, while a 2011 report still described nude bathers along the path. Expect a small, informal area rather than a beach.

Eixer See is a former gravel pit in the Peine district of Eixe, now a local recreation lake of roughly 500 by 300 metres. Its south shore has a light sandy beach, a volleyball court and a playground, with a DLRG station supervising swimmers in summer. It is primarily a family bathing lake; we could not find any source describing a nude area, so any naturist use is informal at best and visitors should respect the clothed main beach.

The Elferteich is a small pond in the middle of the Werdauer Wald, the large forest between Werdau and Greiz in western Saxony. A naturist directory recommends it for nude bathing. It is a forest pond with no facilities, reached by a walk of about 15 minutes from a forest car park, which keeps it quiet. Beyond this, little has been published about the size of the lying area or how busy it gets, so expect a simple, informal woodland bathing spot and check conditions on arrival.

The Elfrather See is a recreation park on the north-eastern edge of Krefeld, near Uerdingen and Gartenstadt, built around a former gravel pit dug for the A57 motorway. The 50-hectare lake is about 3 km long and includes an international rowing and regatta course; swimming in the regatta lake itself is not allowed because of boat traffic, and sailing, surfing and model boating are the main water uses. The park has a large lawn, playground, toilets with showers, a kiosk, a barbecue area and a dog run with water access, and entry is free. Nude sunbathing zones have become established along the regatta course and in bush-screened, less accessible parts of the shore. Naturist reports locate the main spot opposite the sailing club by the surf lake, a stretch of about 150 m where nude and clothed visitors mix; a large meadow on the hill above it is also used for nude sunbathing, mostly by men. Expect a busy city park with mixed use rather than a secluded beach.

The Epplesee is a large, deep gravel lake at Rheinstetten-Forchheim, just south of Karlsruhe near the Silberstreifen district and the Karlsruhe trade fair. Gravel is still extracted from a depth of about 60 m, the water level lies well below the surrounding ground and high embankments rise behind the beach. Good winds make it popular for sailing, surfing and kiting as well as swimming. A long, narrow sand beach runs from the big lawn on the east shore round to the west shore. The west bank is the FKK area: it was used for nude bathing for decades, and since 2008 the city has designated it by ordinance and marked it with signs. It is not fenced off, but clothing is not welcome there, and reports put the share of nude visitors at around 90%. Families and couples make up much of the crowd. There is little natural shade, so bring an umbrella. Dogs are banned from the FKK area and the family lawn during the season. The lake gets very busy on hot days and quiet in the evening.

The Erholungsgebiet Kiebitz is a 110-hectare holiday and bathing complex just north-east of Falkenberg/Elster in the Elbe-Elster district of southern Brandenburg. Its centre is the Kiebitzer See, a lake left behind by gravel extraction and surrounded by mixed woodland, with water the state tourism board describes as excellent. Along the shore runs a sand beach of about 1.3 to 1.35 km with guarded and unguarded stretches, a swimming enclosure and a large water slide. The nude area is a separate FKK section with its own big sunbathing lawn, placed at the far end of the beach promenade away from the main family beach; a fenced dog beach is also kept apart. Because the site is a full resort, the nude area sits beside a camping ground with around 150 pitches, holiday bungalows, tiny houses and tipis, a snack bar, beer garden and ice-cream café, and rentals for pedal boats, rowing boats, bikes and SUP boards. Other attractions include beach volleyball, mini golf and a hedge maze, so expect families and campers in summer. Anglers use the west shore.

The Mondsee lies in the Erholungspark Mondsee (also called Freizeitpark Hohenpirkau) at Sonnenweg 1 near Hohenmölsen, in the south of Saxony-Anhalt about 30 km south-west of Leipzig. It is a flooded former opencast lignite pit, named for its crescent shape, now surrounded by a recultivated landscape with an 8-hectare sunbathing lawn, a campground and a lido run by a municipal association. Sources give the water area as between 25 and 36 hectares, the shoreline as 2.5 km and the depth as up to 11 m. Swimmers praise the very clear water. The front of the lake by the entrance is the textile beach with the water rescue station and shallow margins suited to small children. The nude area begins beyond the log-cabin restaurant and runs along the south shore: a large FKK section of natural sand and grass with sheltered bays between reeds, trees and bushes, entered through narrow gaps in the reed belt. A large dog beach is kept separate. Visitors describe a mixed crowd of families, couples and singles of all ages. Table tennis, volleyball and badminton are offered on site.

The Erlensee is an old flooded gravel pit in the fields just north-west of Bickenbach on the Bergstraße, between Darmstadt and Bensheim in southern Hesse, with the A5 close by. It is a groundwater lake with clear water and fine sand underfoot, framed by woodland and meadows. The lake is managed by the local angling club ASV Bickenbach, and swimming is at your own risk; the DLRG lifeguard presence reported in the early 2000s ended around 2006. A kiosk and snack bar sit on the west shore, and the beach there is family territory where signs have asked people to stay clothed. Nude bathing has a long history at the lake: older reports describe FKK on most of the shore and even on a small island. Since the angling club took over, the south and east shores are reserved for anglers and closed to bathing, and nudity is tolerated only from around the middle of the lake along the north and north-east shore, where small clearings and wooded patches give scattered, quiet places to lie. Weekdays are quieter than weekends.

The Eschacher Weiher is a small upland lake at about 1,000 m in the Kempter Wald hills of the Oberallgäu, in the municipality of Buchenberg west of Kempten, reached past the hamlet of Eschach. It lies in a nature reserve between wooded ridges, and the water is soft, brownish bog water that swimmers describe as clean and refreshing in summer. On the south side a grassy lying-out shore runs along the water, and for years the western half of this lawn has been used by nude bathers; one regional lake guide notes a separately marked-off area for FKK, and a regular describes the nude area as large and less hidden away than at many other lakes. The rest of the shore is used by clothed families, so the two groups lie side by side rather than at separate ends. There is no kiosk, so bring food and drink; simple dry toilets have been reported. Because of the altitude the water stays cooler than lowland gravel lakes and the bathing season is short. Outside summer the lake is a popular stop on hiking loops and, in winter, with cross-country skiers.

Ettikon: Rheinufer is a nudist-friendly beach in Germany. Nudity is optional.

A gravel-pit lake lies in the flat Rhine-plain woods south of Ettlingen-Bruchhausen, near the boundary with Malsch, south of Karlsruhe. The only source describing nude use is a short visitor note on the German nude-bathing directory nacktbaden.de from 2002: it says nude bathing was possible, that many nude bathers came, that the lake lies close to the Buchtzig bathing lake and that it adjoins a working gravel plant, so cars had to be left about 500 m away. The neighbouring Badesee Buchtzig (Am Baggersee 4, Ettlingen) is a separate, managed bathing lake run by the Ettlingen pools service with fixed opening hours, play areas and volleyball, and it is not a nude site. Which of the nearby pits the 2002 note refers to is not stated, and no more recent report was found, so treat nude use here as unconfirmed by current sources.

The Birkensee is the smallest of the three lakes of the Langwieder Seenplatte on Munich's western edge near Langwied and Lochhausen, alongside the Langwieder See and the Lußsee. The whole recreation area covers about 120 hectares, and the Birkensee itself is about 5 hectares, looked after by the Wasserwacht München West. For more than two decades it has been the area's nude lake: early reports describe a narrow grass strip by a maize field, but the surroundings were later landscaped into lawns broken up by new hedges and shrubs, barbecue zones and protected biotope sections where the bank may not be entered. Visitors say clothed bathers rarely use it because the two larger textile lakes are next door, and a city guide notes nude bathing has always been the custom here. The shore is gravelly, so bathing shoes help. The main drawback is noise: the Eschenrieder Spange link road between the A8 and A99 runs right behind the lake despite a noise barrier, and planes pass overhead. One fenced edge near the biotope has a reputation as a meeting spot for swingers.

Strandbad Horn, known locally as the Hörnle, is Konstanz's big free lido at the tip of the Bodanrück peninsula on Lake Constance, set in the Lorettowald woods. With more than 50,000 m² of lawn and some 600 m of shoreline it is often called the largest bathing beach on the Bodensee, and entry is free. Within it is a fenced FKK area screened from the rest of the bath by a hedge and a row of shrubs, with a few changing cubicles and a shower. Naturists also spread onto an unmown strip of meadow directly on the lakeshore, which is not screened from the public footpath that runs between the FKK lawn and the water, so walkers and clothed bathers pass close by. The shore is coarse pebbles rather than sand, and water shoes help. The rest of the Hörnle has a children's pool and playground, beach volleyball and badminton courts, table tennis, swimming rafts, SUP rental and the Hörnle café-restaurant and kiosk, all in the textile area. Crowds are mixed in age and gender, and on warm holiday weekends the FKK section fills up.

Süßenmühle is a small hamlet of holiday flats on the north shore of the Überlinger See, the north-western arm of Lake Constance, between Sipplingen and Überlingen. Below it lies a natural bathing spot that the EU bathing-water register lists as Sipplingen, Badestrand Süßenmühle, with water rated excellent for years in a row. A 2025 Schwäbische Zeitung article on nude bathing around Lake Constance named the Süßenmühle FKK beach as one of the places on the German shore where nude bathing is already possible, and the holiday flats beside it advertise the FKK area to guests. A rental listing puts it about 2 km from Sipplingen and roughly 4 km from the Überlingen lakeside promenade. It is a simple, unserviced spot: bathing directories list no kiosk, toilets or lifeguards, and suggest bringing food and drink. No source describes the length of the shore, the surface or how the nude area is marked, so expect a modest stretch of natural lakeshore rather than a developed beach.

Strandbad Süd is one of the two lidos on the Unterbacher See, a lake on Düsseldorf's south-eastern edge run by the public Zweckverband Erholungsgebiet Unterbacher See. Since its early years the bath has been divided into a textile section and a separate FKK beach, which is broken up into hedged bays that give each group some privacy. The naturist part has its own sand beach and lawn of about 18,500 m² in total and roughly 147 m of shoreline, including a shallow children's zone, with the swimmer and non-swimmer areas separated by a floating boom. Changing rooms and toilets were rebuilt in 2008, and the water is supervised by lifeguards during opening hours. Shared facilities of the bath include beach volleyball and table tennis, while the beach café with its floating lake terrace and kiosks serve food. It is a paid, managed lido with set opening hours from May, not a wild beach; on fine summer days the FKK section is in heavy demand and the best spots are taken by late morning.

The Bornbruchsee is a small flooded gravel-pit lake of about 6 hectares in the woods between Mörfelden and Langen, south of Frankfurt, in the Mörfelden-Walldorf district of Hesse. According to the nacktbaden.de directory, naturists sunbathe and swim around almost the whole shoreline, though clothed visitors are regularly present too. Part of the lake is still used by an adjacent works, and one stretch of bank is left natural. It is not a lido: there are no facilities, no lifeguard and no managed beach, just forest paths and informal lying spots. Hikers on komoot note that swimming is officially not allowed but that people bathe anyway; anyone going should be aware of that and keep away from the industrial part of the lake. A visitor comment on seen.de mentions dogs on the south side and calls it a swingers' lake, so it suits experienced naturists looking for a quiet, unofficial spot rather than families. Naturist directories also list the nearby Walldorfer Badesee and Langener Waldsee.

Grömitz is a busy Baltic resort on the Lübeck Bay coast of Schleswig-Holstein, with a long, fine-sand beach and promenade. Its nude bathing is concentrated away from the town centre at the north-eastern end of the beach towards Lensterstrand, about 4 km from central Grömitz, where travel guides and the nacktbaden.de directory place designated FKK sections alongside a dog beach. Lensterstrand is the quieter, more natural part of the Grömitz coast, with dunes and bird-protection areas and several campsites close to the beach, and the Ostsee climbing park nearby. The beach is sandy. Exact boundaries of the FKK section are not published by the resort, so look for the beach signs or ask a lifeguard or beach-chair attendant on arrival. In peak season a DLRG lifeguard station watches the main Grömitz beach.

The Brombachsee lakes are reservoirs in the Fränkisches Seenland, the Franconian Lake District south-west of Nuremberg. The nude beach is at the Absberg-Seespitz recreation area, at the point where the dam separates the Kleiner Brombachsee from the much larger Großer Brombachsee, just outside Absberg. The regional tourism body describes it as a discreetly screened FKK bathing area that is officially designated for naturists. The lake guide seen.de places the nude sand beach and lawn on the northern shore of the Kleiner Brombachsee and says textile-free bathing has been officially allowed there since 2005. Like the lakes' other seven recreation centres, Seespitz has car parking, toilets and changing rooms. Close to the nude beach is the self-service Seeklause restaurant, which is open all year. It has a large beer garden facing both lakes, a playground and car parking. The Kleiner Brombachsee is smaller and calmer than its neighbour. The main family beach and a fenced dog beach are on the Badehalbinsel peninsula at Absberg, away from the nude area.

The Altmühlsee is a shallow reservoir next to Gunzenhausen, the northernmost of the lakes in the Fränkisches Seenland in Middle Franconia. Its nude beach belongs to the Seezentrum Muhr am See, the recreation centre on the north shore near the village of Muhr am See. The regional tourism association lists it as one of two beaches in the district that are officially designated for naturists and screened from view. The other is at Absberg on the Kleiner Brombachsee. The Seezentrum is open and free to enter at all times. Next to the nude area is the main beach, with sand, lawns and open-air showers. Facilities include the Strandhaus restaurant serving regional Franconian food, a kiosk, a beach-volleyball court, a playground, and rental of bikes, rickshaws, kayaks, SUPs and pedal boats. There is also a marina, and the Altmühlsee passenger boat calls here, although its service was suspended at last check. Much of the lake is a bird sanctuary, and the Vogelinsel nature area is a few minutes away on the lakeside path. A family campsite, open April to October, and a motorhome site sit beside the centre.

The Cospudener See is a flooded former opencast lignite mine on the southern edge of Leipzig, shared with the town of Markkleeberg. It was redeveloped as an Expo 2000 project and is now one of the city's main summer bathing lakes, with a marina and a large sandy north beach. Nude bathing has a long but untidy history here. Around 2001 the north shore had a signed FKK area, west of the main lake access, and it was very busy in good weather. By 2003 the operator had removed the signs. In 2021 the city's environment department said no official nude beach had ever been designated. It also said nudity was tolerated at the dog beach in the north-east corner, on the wooded west shore and on the east shore near Markkleeberg. A petition that year asked for a designated nude section. The city backed it and offered the unleased west shore, south of the Lauerscher Weg, because the leaseholder of the north beach refused. The Weitsee is a long, narrow mountain lake at about 750 m altitude between Reit im Winkl and Ruhpolding in the Chiemgau Alps, lying in a valley between the Gurnwandkopf and the Duerrnbachhorn right beside the B305 Deutsche Alpenstrasse. It is about 2.7 km long but only around 240 m wide, with an average depth of 3.5 m and a maximum of about 9 m. Together with the Mittersee and Loedensee it forms the Dreiseengebiet, a protected nature area. Its clean water and distance from the nearest village make it a popular bathing lake in summer. The bathing beach has a nude section at the end farthest from the road, and an Alpine travel guide also lists an FKK bathing area at the lake. Bathing is only permitted at designated bathing spots. Details about the size and exact boundaries of the nude area are scarce, so look for the quieter end of the beach away from the road.

The Strandbad Mueggelsee is a historic lakeside bath on the north shore of the Grosser Mueggelsee, Berlin's largest lake, in Rahnsdorf in the district of Treptow-Koepenick. Berlin's official city portal notes a nude (FKK) area west of the bath, below the steep bank, and long-time visitors describe the western part of the grounds as the FKK section, about 200 m from the textile beach and with its own access from the small car park. The FKK area combines a strip of real sand with a wide lawn dotted with trees that gives some shade. The lake is very shallow here: the non-swimmer zone is large, around 1.2 m at most, which suits small children, and swimmers have to wade a long way out. Water has been clear since quality improved after reunification. The bath currently has no operator and entry is free, but its future is uncertain: the listed building needs extensive renovation, and the district has sought an investor, which press reports say could end free bathing. Earlier visitor reports describe toilets, cold open-air showers and a snack stand in the FKK area, but services depend on the season and current management, so check before you go. The crowd is mixed in age and generally calm.

The Kronensee is a 40-hectare lake at Ostercappeln-Schwagstorf in the Osnabrück Land of Lower Saxony, between the Wiehengebirge hills and the Venner Moor, close to the Mittelland Canal and about 16 km from Osnabrück. It is the centrepiece of the Freizeitzentrum Kronensee, a year-round campground with a paid natural lido, sandy beach, beach bar and water sports such as surfing, sailing and angling. At the far end of the lido, past the textile beach and its sunbathing lawn, the operator provides a designated FKK lawn next to a separate section where dogs are allowed; a hedge was planted around 2006 to separate the nude and dog areas. Visitors describe the nude meadow as very large (around 20,000 m², roughly a football pitch or more), closely mown, gently sloping to the water and edged with woodland that gives shade. Swimming from the FKK and dog sections is not supervised. Reports mention couples and all age groups, with numbers rising through warm days. The route to the kiosk and toilets crosses the textile beach.

The Halberstädter See is a former gravel-extraction lake on the north-eastern edge of Halberstadt in the northern Harz foreland of Saxony-Anhalt, near the district of Wehrstedt. Its southern part is a fenced, paid lido run by the Freizeit- und Sportzentrum Halberstadt (FSZ), with a sandy beach, a bathing island, pedal boat, canoe and SUP hire from a jetty, a playground and a snack and ice-cream kiosk. The front of the lido with the sand beach is for clothed bathers; the rear section is the FKK area, which the operator advertises as a quiet zone for undisturbed sunbathing. Visitors describe it as a large lawn with some shade, a reed belt around the shore broken by several sandy to gravelly, gently shelving entry points, and good, clean water for long swims. Older visitors tend to predominate, especially on cooler days, but on hot days the FKK lawn is busy. The northern part of the lake is outside the lido and not approved for bathing; a second lake beside it is still being quarried and bathing there is banned.

Stausee Oberwald is a reservoir in the Reichenbach part of Callenberg, in western Saxony. It lies about 4 km from Sankt Egidien and about 12 km from Chemnitz, close to the A4 motorway. Its shore is run as a paid lido (Strandbad) with a bathing beach of roughly 360 m and a lawn for sunbathing behind it. The lido includes a separate nude area. Saxony's official bathing-water profile lists that FKK area and rates the water quality as very good. Beyond the beach, the site is a busy family leisure complex. It has playgrounds, minigolf, boat and pedal-boat hire, a water slide of about 64 m, a summer toboggan run of more than 500 m, a self-service restaurant with a terrace, and a snack bar. A four-star campsite on the shore also keeps its own separate FKK section for guests. Dogs are not allowed in the bathing area. Campers mention steady noise from the nearby motorway. Published sources do not say exactly where along the shore the nude area is, so ask at the entrance.

Wendtorf is a small resort in the Probstei, on the eastern shore of the outer Kiel Fjord facing the Baltic Sea. Its quiet natural beach lies immediately east of the Bottsand, a sand spit and nature reserve that visitors may enter only on a guided walk. This undeveloped stretch, with low dunes and beach grass, is the part used by nude bathers. Both the regional Baltic tourism board and the Probstei tourism office describe it as quiet and unspoilt and say naturists are well catered for. No marked zone boundary is published. Beach Atlas puts the nude section at about 280 m of the natural beach next to the reserve. The beach is sand, the water is calm Baltic, and it is free of the daily tourist tax charged at many neighbouring beaches. The site is known for its seclusion compared with busier Laboe or Schönberger Strand. Dogs are not allowed on this beach. The nearest dog beaches are at Heidkate and on the cliffs at Stein. Accessible toilets are at the Bottsand nature station.

Cuxhaven-Duhnen is a North Sea resort at the mouth of the Elbe in Lower Saxony, facing the Wadden Sea mudflats. Its nude area is known locally as 'Nackeduhnien'. Neu-Nackeduhnien is a sandy spit about 100 m beyond the southern end of the Duhnen promenade. Alt-Nackeduhnien is a sandbank out in the mudflats, reached on foot at low tide in a walk of roughly an hour. Woven willow screens on the spit give some shelter from wind and from view, though visitors have called them inadequate. The beach is small. Swimming depends on the tide, since the water retreats far out over the mudflats. Walkers on the mudflats and on the adjoining clothed beach pass close by. A regional news report in 2026 still named both Nackeduhnien spots as Duhnen's best-known nude beaches and warned that the sections can shift from year to year. Older reports describe clean toilets, reached by crossing the clothed beach. Cuxhaven's resort tax applies on all its beaches, and a day resort card covers them all.

Norderney's nude beach is the Oase beach in the quiet east of the island, about 7 km from the town centre, where the dunes open onto a broad, remote stretch of North Sea sand. The spa operator, Staatsbad Norderney, runs it as one of the island's four managed beaches, and its beach and bathing ordinance (2023) names it FKK-Strand Oase, running from about 200 m west to about 800 m east of the lifeguard container, so roughly a kilometre of shore. Within it there are rentable beach chairs, a kiosk and the Oase beach sauna, two saunas with sea views where bathers cool off in the sea. A marked dog section lies at the western end, and riders may cross only with a permit and outside the closed hours. Bathing is supervised in season. In 2026 the beach changed: the grid operator Amprion is laying offshore-wind cables under the island, and the FKK sections X and Z were closed from June to August, while family sections W and Y stayed open with around 160 beach chairs. A sign reading 'Textil & Familienstrand OASE (Kein FKK)' appeared on site in summer 2026, and the Staatsbad has not said whether FKK will return.

Priwall is the peninsula on the far side of the Trave estuary from Travemünde, Lübeck's Baltic resort. Its north-facing beach is a natural sand beach about 1.4 km long. It runs from the Trave mouth and the south pier east to the low Rosenhagen cliff at the Mecklenburg border. The Travemünde tourism office lists one of the resort's two designated FKK areas on the eastern part of this beach. Small dunes there are popular as sheltered spots to lie in. The beach shelves gently into shallow water. With dunes and a small wood behind it, it is calmer than the main Travemünde promenade beach and popular with families. The state bathing-water profile lists the Priwall beach as an EU bathing water operated by the Kurbetrieb Travemünde. It records a lifeguard service for part of the time, toilets, showers, a kiosk, an FKK beach and a dog beach. Dogs are allowed only in the first 100 m from the passenger ferry pier at the western end, well away from the nude area. In season a per-person beach fee is charged on Priwall.

Travemünde is Lübeck's seaside resort on the Bay of Lübeck. North of its main promenade beach (Kurstrand) the coast rises into the Brodtener Steilufer, an eroding clay cliff that is largely protected as a nature and bird reserve. The Travemünde tourism office lists one of the resort's two designated FKK areas here, behind the yacht club at the northern end of the Kurstrand where the cliff coast begins. The other FKK area is on Priwall, across the river. The beach below the cliff is narrower and more natural than the wide, sand-replenished Kurstrand, and stones and clay from the cliff reach the shore. Unlike the Kurstrand and Priwall, the Brodtener Ufer beach is generally free of charge. A year-round dog beach and a dog bathing jetty are also on this stretch, at the Söhrmanndamm just behind the northern Kurstrand. The cliff edge is unstable, so keep to marked paths and observe the barriers above the beach.

The Inselsee is a roughly 40-hectare bathing lake beside the Elbe Lateral Canal (Elbe-Seitenkanal) at Scharnebeck, north-east of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony. It began as a quarry pit dug while the canal was being built and is named for the island in its middle, which strong swimmers like to head for. The regional tourism board, Flusslandschaft Elbe, lists a nudist area among the lake's facilities, alongside a sandy beach in a bathing bay, a shaded lawn, barbecue places, toilets and a kiosk; from the beach you look across to the wooded Geest ridge and the Scharnebeck boat lift. A visitor report describes the nude area as a separate grassy spot set back from the main bathing beach, but no source gives its exact position, so look for it away from the main sand beach or ask at the kiosk. Water quality has been rated good. The DLRG keeps a lifeguard station here and supervises swimming at weekends. There is a volleyball net, and visitors have reported seeing otters in the evening.

Weiher 12 is one of a cluster of flooded gravel ponds in the Straubing/Parkstetten recreation area, on the Danube plain north of Straubing in Lower Bavaria. It lies beside the golf course between Friedenhain and Kirchroth. The pond is set aside for nude bathing and is looked after by the Verein für naturnahe Erholung und Freikörperkultur, the local FKK association, which developed the site together with the local authorities. Unlike most public nude spots, nudity is expected here. Signs say access is for naturists, and swimwear is not welcome on either side of the pond. Clothed bathers are pointed to the neighbouring ponds. A belt of trees divides the grounds into two halves. Each has a well-kept lawn and a fine sand beach that reviewers compare to the seaside. Reviewers mention a toilet block and somewhere to buy drinks. Use is free for everyone. The association asks regular users to join to fund upkeep, and in 2006 the membership fee was 15 euros a year, with holidaymakers exempt. Weekdays are quiet, and weekends in good weather are busy.

Falckensteiner Strand is Kiel's longest bathing beach, a 2.5 to 3 km stretch of sand on the western shore of the outer Kiel Fjord in the Friedrichsort-Falckenstein district, looking across to Laboe and the ships entering and leaving the Baltic. It is a broad, gently shelving sand beach backed by coastal dunes and the Falckenstein campsite, with shallow water popular with families, a lifeguard post, toilets, kiosks and a water-sports centre. A seasonal animal beach for dogs and horses lies between Falckenstein and Schilksee. Nude bathing is reported at the quieter end of the beach near the campsite (Palisadenweg): a camping guide says the 'FKK-Strand Falckenstein' is within walking distance of the site, and a beach directory lists a secluded naturist-friendly section there. The city's tourism pages describe the main beach without mentioning an FKK area, so expect a small, informal nude stretch rather than a signed zone. Kiel's official nudist area is at nearby Schilksee.

The Federbachsee is a small flood-retention reservoir on the Federbach in the Ostalb district of eastern Baden-Württemberg, between Leinzell and Heuchlingen, below the hamlet of Horn near Göggingen and Schechingen. It is a working flood basin, about 4 m deep at normal levels, surrounded by meadows and woodland and used mainly by anglers and walkers. A 2001 visitor report on nacktbaden.de describes nude sunbathing as customary in the rear part of the basin and the place as very quiet. The same and later sources stress that it is not really a bathing lake: the water is murky, bathing was suspended in 2001 because of salmonella, and both a regional lake guide and a recent hiker's note say swimming and boating are not allowed. Treat it as a quiet spot for nude sunbathing on the grass rather than a place to swim.

The Feisnecksee, usually just called the Feisneck, is a clear glacial lake on the south-eastern edge of Waren (Müritz) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, about 3.1 km long and 600 m wide and wholly inside the Müritz National Park. It is linked to the Müritz only by a narrow, shallow ditch, so there are no motorboats, and a small wooded island, the Burgwall, lies within easy swimming distance. The town runs an official bathing place on the north part of the lake with a 50 m natural beach, a bathing jetty, shallow water, a sunbathing lawn, seasonal toilets and a DLRG lifeguard; it holds a Blue Flag. There is no designated FKK area anywhere on the lake. Instead, nude bathers have for years used the small sandy coves and meadows along the wooded eastern shore, including the larger Damerow bathing spot, where people swim as they like; recent visitors say clothed bathers are usually in the majority but nobody objects to nudity. The water is clean and clear and the setting is forest on all sides.

Feldmochinger See is a 16-hectare former gravel-pit lake on the north-western edge of Munich, up to about 6 metres deep and fed by groundwater springs. It is one of the city's most popular bathing lakes, with long lawns, shaded trees along the shore, a large playground on the east side, volleyball courts and a fitness trail in the west, and a step-free bathing jetty on the north shore. According to the City of Munich it is the only municipal lake in Munich with an officially designated nude beach. The city's FKK page places the nude area on the south-west shore and says it covers only a marked part of the shoreline and lawn, so the on-site signs define where nudity is allowed; the city's lake page describes the area as being in the south of the lake next to a nature biotope. The health department tests the water monthly from mid-May to mid-September and rates it very good. On hot weekends the lake is crowded and the large car park fills early; the nude section is a smaller, quieter part of the shore.

The Feringasee in Unterföhring, on the north-eastern edge of Munich, is a groundwater lake created in the 1970s by gravel extraction for motorway building and since developed into one of the region's big public recreation areas. The district office gives it about 32 ha of water, roughly 3 km of shoreline, depths to about 7 m and some 21 ha of lawns, with sandy entries in several places. The nude area is official: the peninsula that juts into the lake from the south is designated as an FKK site, with its own kiosk and toilets, shady trees and sunny lawns, and a volleyball court. On hot weekends several hundred nude bathers gather there, and nudity has also spread clockwise along the west shore beyond the peninsula, while the big lawns by the eastern and southern car parks stay textile. Bathing is not allowed on the north shore, which is reserved for windsurfing. Elsewhere there is a restaurant with beer garden, more kiosks, grill zones and a weekend Wasserwacht station. Water quality samples in 2026 were all rated unobjectionable.

The Fetzer Seen are a small group of former gravel pits in the Danube floodplain north of Günzburg in Bavarian Swabia, near the village of Riedhausen. They sit among the many quarry lakes on this stretch of the Danube, next to the Vollmerseen. The Landkreis Günzburg's lake ordinance lists the Fetzer-See Riedhausen (west of the Vollmersee) as open to general bathing, with only dogs in the water and motorised model boats prohibited. The nude spot described by visitors is a lawn between two of the lakes on the left of the access track: a 2001 report on nacktbaden.de describes a mixed crowd with a small group of nude bathers nearly always present and well tolerated, and calls the site ideal for nude bathing and sunbathing. No newer reports were found, so the current level of nude use is uncertain.

The Filzteich is a reservoir on the edge of Schneeberg in the western Erzgebirge, built in 1483-1485 and often called the oldest dam in Saxony. At about 542 m above sea level, it covers around 17 ha and is no more than about 3.8 m deep, so it warms up faster than most mountain lakes. Today it is run as the Naturbad Strandbad Filzteich, a paid lakeside lido with lawns, a fenced swimming area watched by the Wasserwacht, an 85 m water slide, a diving tower, pedal and rowing boats for hire, a playground, kiosks and a beer garden. Within the lido there is a separate FKK area, listed in Saxony's official bathing-water profile and by the operator, so nude sunbathing is part of the normal offer rather than a fringe practice. The FKK section is a lawn area set apart from the main textile meadows; the sources do not mark its exact position, so ask at the entrance. The water is a monitored EU bathing water. Dogs are not allowed.

The Fischbachweiher is a small, clear fishpond south-east of Donaueschingen near Pfohren, in the upper Danube basin of the Baar plateau, lying just west of the larger Riedsee with its campground and textile bathing beach. The only description of nude use is a 2002 report on nacktbaden.de, which says the pond has clear water with plenty of fish and that nude bathers used it, reached by walking about 15 minutes from the Riedsee car park towards the campground fence, through a small wood and then left along a field track for roughly 100 m. No newer report, rules or official information were found, so the current situation is unknown.

The Kiessee lies on the southern edge of Schildow, in the municipality of Mühlenbecker Land, just beyond Berlin's northern city limit near Glienicke/Nordbahn and Reinickendorf. It is a former gravel pit run as a fenced Strandbad (Lessingstraße 48), so access is through the entrance and a small day fee is charged in season. The lake has several bathing areas with very shallow, gently sloping lake beds, which is why it is popular with families with small children. Alongside the textile areas there is a large FKK section; Berlin's tourism board mentions it, and seen.de describes it as a large FKK area. The sources do not say exactly which shore it occupies, so follow the signs or ask at the gate. Other facilities include a ball field, table tennis and a beer garden. As a small, enclosed lido it feels local rather than touristy. Some visitors dislike that the lake is fenced and commercial.

The Flaucher is a stretch of the Isar in Munich's Sendling and Thalkirchen area, between the Thalkirchner Bruecke and the Brudermuehlbruecke, about 3 km south of the city centre. Roughly 700 m north of the Thalkirchen bridge the river splits into several arms, leaving islands and wide gravel banks that were reshaped when this part of the Isar was renaturalised in the 2000s. The name comes from the 'Zum Flaucher' inn opened by Johann Flaucher around 1870 on the west bank, now a beer garden. The city's bathing-clothing ordinance designates the large gravel bank east of the Flauchersteg footbridge as one of Munich's six official nude bathing areas; only the area marked on the city's map counts, and signs on site show the limits. Expect coarse gravel rather than sand, so bring a thick mat, and cold, fast-flowing water with changing currents. In summer the gravel banks are among the busiest spots on the river: nude and clothed visitors mix, crowds are young, and evening barbecues and bonfire parties are common, which can leave litter behind. A second official zone lies a little north, between the Braunauer railway bridge and the Brudermuehlbruecke.

The Flueckiger See (Flueckigersee) is a roughly 10-hectare city lake in Freiburg im Breisgau, in the Betzenhausen district west of the centre, created by gravel extraction in the 1920s and now set in the landscaped Seepark. It is a busy urban bathing spot with large sunbathing lawns, pedal boats, a mini-golf course, a beer garden, a restaurant and a kiosk. Nude bathing is an established custom on one part of the shore: a naturist report places nude bathers on the north shore between the grassy mounds, and visitor comments on seen.de mention that FKK is usual on one shore and that there is a separate section for nudists. This is tolerated rather than designated, and the rest of the park is used by clothed visitors and families. Swimmer's itch caused by cercariae has been reported in the lake. Freiburg's other city lake, the Dietenbachsee, has a similar tolerated nude area on its north-east shore, about 1.5 km to the south.

The Fohnsee is one of the Osterseen, a group of around 20 larger and many smaller lakes just south of Lake Starnberg near Iffeldorf in Upper Bavaria. The whole lake district is a nature reserve and has been protected since 1955. The Fohnsee is the lake most often named for nude bathing in the area: its nude beach is a grassy hill on the south side, with views across the lakes to the Alps and the village. A seen.de guide calls it an official FKK beach, and visitor reports say sunbathing is restricted to an area marked by posts with white caps, introduced around 1999 to protect the reserve. The strip at the water is narrow, around 5-7 m, and the Fohnsee is preferred over the Grosser Ostersee for its shade and clear, turquoise-tinted water; the meadow can be damp, so bring a mat. Cattle graze nearby and leave dung on the pasture, and adders have been reported. Nude bathing is also tolerated on two stretches of the east shore of the Grosser Ostersee. A small campsite lies on the Fohnsee. The spot attracts couples, singles and younger visitors.

Freibad Langsee is an outdoor bathing site in the Pegnitz valley in Nuremberg-Mögeldorf, run by the sports club TSV 1846 Nürnberg. It is the only outdoor pool in Nuremberg with a natural swimming lake, fed by groundwater, alongside a solar-heated non-swimmer pool, a swimmer pool and a baby paddling pool. The grounds are spacious and green, with some lawns in full sun and others under trees. The City of Nuremberg confirms that a separate area of the grounds is reserved for FKK. Clothed and nude visitors therefore share one ticketed site but use different lawns, and the lake is open to everyone. The rest of the site is aimed at families, with a playground with spring rockers and a sandpit, table tennis and a beach volleyball court. Note that the city listed the pool as temporarily closed from 3 July 2026, so check that it has reopened before you plan a visit.

The Silbersee is a small bathing lake in Hochdorf, on the northern edge of Freiburg im Breisgau, next to the Breisgau Camping am Silbersee campsite on Seestraße. The lake is about 100 m from the campsite and has a large sunbathing lawn along the water. Part of that lawn is set aside for nude bathing and screened off from the rest by a privacy fence, so nude and clothed visitors use separate sections of the same shore. One campsite guide also says the FKK section has its own sanitary facilities. The water is monitored as an EU bathing water and has been rated excellent for five consecutive years, according to data reported to the European Environment Agency. A kiosk sells snacks and basics, though reviewers note it is not always open, and the Gasthaus Breisgau am See restaurant is close by. The Tunisee, another lake with its own campsite, is less than half a kilometre away. Part of the site is set aside for dog owners, and dogs may only use marked paths to the lake.

The Geiseltalsee, south of Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt, fills a former lignite strip mine that was flooded with water from the Saale between 2003 and 2011. It is the largest lake in the state. Towns, vineyards and new beaches surround it, and a cycle path circles the shore. The nude area is not at Braunsbedra but at Strandbad Stöbnitz on the western side near Mücheln, on the peninsula by the Stöbnitz lookout tower. Tourism listings for the region describe the beach as having a supervised section, a textile section and an FKK section side by side, with a sunbathing lawn and a beach of sand and fine gravel. The Stöbnitz beach also has catering, a playground, beach volleyball courts and SUP and pedal boat hire, and one listing says entry is free. The Wasserwacht keeps a station on the lake. The Godnasee is a quiet forest lake of about 18.5 hectares in Kehrigk, a district of Storkow in Brandenburg's Oder-Spree lake country, just north of Alt-Schadow. It sits on the southern edge of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park, bordering the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. The lake is roughly 720 metres long and 250 metres wide, up to about 7 metres deep, and largely lined with reeds. According to German Wikipedia it is designated as an FKK (nude) bathing lake and the people who swim there are almost all naturists. The main place to lie out is a fairly large, shaded sandy area on the south shore; elsewhere there are only a few small, partly overgrown spots. There are no toilets, kiosk or other facilities at the water, so bring food and drink and take rubbish home. The lake is also a commercial fishing water run by the Richter fishery (pike, zander, carp, eel, perch), so expect anglers.

The Gräbendorfer See is a flooded former lignite mine in the Lusatian Lakeland (Lausitzer Seenland), between Vetschau/Spreewald, Altdöbern and Drebkau in southern Brandenburg. Its landmark is a bird-protection island colonised by gulls. The lake has two main bathing beaches: the Gräbendorfer Strand leisure area on the south shore at Reddern, opened officially in 2015, with a roughly 50-metre natural bathing area sloping from a sunbathing lawn, a campsite, playground and public toilets; and the beach at Laasow by the floating holiday houses. Brandenburg's official tourism site says that between these two beaches, along the shore with small strands and shady coves, individual textile-free bathing is also possible. So there is no fenced or signed FKK beach; nude bathers spread out in the quieter coves along the lakeside path. None of the beaches is lifeguarded, and the water entry at Reddern is fairly shallow.

The Grünewalder Lauch (also called Grünewalder See) is a flooded former lignite pit on the western edge of Lauchhammer in southern Brandenburg, part of the Lausitzer Seenland lake district and bordered by the woods of the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park. Its main shore is taken up by Themencamping Grünewalder Lauch, a large campsite that runs a public sand beach on the lake, edged with reeds. The beach is divided into sections for textile bathers, dogs and water sports, and the campsite states that naturists have their own beach section on the far shore of the lake ('am hinteren Seeufer'), set apart from the main family beach. A regional camping map of the Lausitzer Seenland likewise notes that FKK fans have their own beach here. The lake is used for swimming, windsurfing, stand-up paddling and sailing. Because the FKK area lies on the far side, it is quieter than the main beach, and one beach portal describes the wider shoreline there as sandy with no services, so bring water and shade.

The Halensee is a small Grunewald lake, about 5.7 hectares and up to 10 m deep, on the western edge of Berlin's Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, just south of the Kurfürstendamm and the A100 city motorway. Most of its shore is private, but the north shore and southern tip are public. On the north side the sloping lawn of Friedenthalpark (named in 1997, formerly Halenseepark) runs down to the water, and this meadow is one of Berlin's best-known nude sunbathing spots: the district office calls it a popular nude bathing meadow and the city's tourism site says the park is used mainly by FKK fans. The setting is urban, with the motorway and apartment blocks close by, and the park also has a playground with a pirate ship in the park. The lake has no natural inflow and was long one of Berlin's most polluted waters; the lido closed in 2002, a rainwater filter plant opened in 2007, and swimming has been officially banned or restricted for much of the time since, so many people come only to sunbathe.

The Harthsee is a flooded former lignite pit from the Borna-Ost opencast mine, lying a few kilometres south-east of Borna and north of Frohburg in the Leipziger Neuseenland, roughly 30 km south of Leipzig. The lake is about 4.7 km long, up to 14 m deep and covers around 88 hectares; Saxony's bathing-water monitoring point sits at the Neukirchen beach on the Borna side, and the water is rated excellent. There is no formal lido. Instead the shore is split informally between a main beach (served by food trucks in summer), several small bathing niches, a second smaller beach near the second car park, a dog-friendly stretch and a nude section. The zones are not signposted, so the nude area is found by following other bathers rather than signs. Visitors describe it as a stretch that regular naturists treat as their own, sitting next to textile and dog areas. The setting is open post-mining landscape with sandy and grassy banks. Camping and barbecues, once tolerated, are reportedly no longer allowed, and a private security service patrols in summer. There are no toilets.

The Hassesee is the smallest lake of the Geiseltal lake group, sitting on the edge of Roßbach just south of Braunsbedra in southern Saxony-Anhalt, between Merseburg and Weißenfels. It fills a former opencast lignite pit, named after the mine manager Hasse, and has served as a local recreation area since 1980. The lake is run together with a year-round campsite as a supervised Strandbad: about 500 m of sandy beach backed by a large lawn, a lifeguard tower, a water slide of roughly 90 m, and sports areas for volleyball, table tennis and football. Within the guarded beach a separate FKK section with its own water access is set aside; one listing puts it at about a quarter of the sand. The campsite still carries the feel of a former GDR holiday ground, with bungalows, caravans and frequent events such as beach parties, discos, concerts and a triathlon, so summer weekends can be lively. It is mainly a local and family destination rather than a naturist resort.

The Heidesee lies in Nietleben on the western edge of Halle (Saale), about 5 km from the city centre, with the pine, beech and oak woods of the Dölauer Heide along its southern side. It is a flooded lignite pit: mining began in the early 19th century, and after the Neuglück mine closed in 1931 rising groundwater filled the hole, creating a lake roughly 800 m long, up to 300 m wide and about 12.5 ha in area. The city opened a public bath on the north shore in the 1950s, and since 2007 it has been run privately as the Heidebad. The bathing area is split into two sandy beaches of about 150 m each: one textile, one FKK. Around them the operator has added a climbing forest, wakeboarding and stand-up paddling, plus catering and toilets, so the lido is busy and family-oriented on summer days. The lake is also a hub for runners and cyclists on the sandy forest tracks, and the Heidelauf running event starts here several times a year. Water colour is sometimes described as greenish but fine for swimming.

Heiligenhafen is a Baltic port town in Ostholstein, facing the island of Fehmarn across the water. Its main beach runs for about four kilometres of sand and dunes along the Steinwarder, a spit in front of the town, from the DLRG lifeguard main station across the eastern Steinwarder to the western end of the Graswarder. The town divides this shore into marked sections: a family bathing beach around the DLRG station, a dog beach east of it, and the FKK beach. The nude section lies between the main bathing beach and the Graswarder nature reserve, a roughly 230-hectare bird sanctuary of dunes, salt marsh and lagoons lined on its seaward side by historic villas. Here nude bathing is in the dunes, in a quieter natural setting with an open view to Fehmarn. The sand is fine and the water shallow near shore. The town's beach-chair rental runs over 900 Strandkörbe across the beach in summer, and the tourism service holds regular events on the main beach. A separate, little-used natural beach with some pebbles and seaweed lies further west between Ortmühle and Strandhusen.

Hooksiel is a small harbour resort in the Wangerland municipality on the western shore of the Jade Bight, the wide North Sea inlet across from Wilhelmshaven. Its Strandbad is a free-entry beach complex, run by Wangerland Touristik, that sits on the dike in front of the village. It is divided into separate sections: an ordinary sand beach, a dog beach, a nude (FKK) beach, and an FKK beach where dogs are also allowed. The tourism office says nude visitors have been welcome here for many years. Beach chairs (Strandkörbe) can be booked for the FKK section in the same way as for the textile beach. The beach is sand with some dunes, backed by lawn and the dike. Because it is on the Wadden Sea, the water goes out a long way at low tide, so swimming depends on the tides, which the tourism site publishes. Facilities in the Strandbad include toilets (one accessible), a baby-changing room, showers, a kiosk and snack bar, a playground and a beach sauna, and a DLRG lifeguard station is listed beside the bathing beach. Outside the Strandbad, behind the dunes, there is also a wider natural beach. A kite school and the outer harbour with fish sellers and restaurants are a few minutes away.

This is one of six areas where the City of Munich allows nude bathing on the Isar and in the Englischer Garten. It lies in Sendling/Untergiesing, on the east side of the southern Isar flood bed, between two crossings: the zone starts 50 m south of the Braunauer railway bridge and runs south to a point 100 m north of the Brudermühlbrücke road bridge. The ground is the river's broad flood bed, with gravel banks along the water, part of the renaturalised Isar that also includes the busier Flaucher area a little further south. Only the area shown on the city's map and marked by signs on site counts as a nude zone; outside it, swimwear is required. Compared with the Flaucher gravel bank, this stretch is less well known. The Isar here is cold and fast-flowing, its level changes with the weather, and the city's bathing bans and safety rules still apply inside nude zones. The stony ground makes a thick mat and water shoes useful.

Maria Einsiedel is one of six nude-bathing areas that the City of Munich designates under its bathing-clothing ordinance (Badekleidungsverordnung), and the southernmost of the city's Isar zones. It lies in the Isar floodplain on the west side of the river in the Thalkirchen/Hinterbrühl area of southern Munich. According to the city, the zone begins roughly 200 metres south of the Marienklause and runs south to the southern end of the Hinterbrühler See; only the area inside those limits, as shown on the city's map and the signs on site, is covered. The ground is typical Isar floodplain: open gravel banks along the water with meadow and riverside woodland behind. It should not be confused with the Naturbad Maria Einsiedel, a paid municipal open-air pool next door that has its own separate FKK lawns. The Isar here is a fast, cold alpine river; the city warns of shifting currents, eddies, weirs, stones and roots, and stresses that the nude zone does not make the adjacent water safe or override bathing bans. Further downstream the city's other Isar zones are at Brudermühlbrücke and the Flaucher gravel bank.

The Habermannsee is one of the Kaulsdorfer Seen, a group of flooded former gravel pits in Kaulsdorf in the Berlin district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf, close to the city's eastern edge. Locals often call it the Kaulsdorfer Baggersee. Groundwater fills it, and it lies inside the catchment of the Kaulsdorf waterworks, which supplies drinking water. The shore has small sandy beaches, lawns and stretches of trees that give shade. A spit or island runs through the middle and can be reached on foot from the north shore. Nude bathing goes back to GDR-era FKK habits and still goes on today. Clothed and nude bathers share the lake, and one stretch of shore is more naturist than the rest, though no sign or fence marks it. Visitors include local families, teenagers, older FKK regulars and gay men. Many people bring dogs. There are no kiosks, toilets or lifeguards. Swimming here is officially banned but has long been tolerated, so the lake is not a monitored bathing water. Recent press reports also describe complaints about sexual meet-ups around the lakes.

The Kleiner Tonteich is a small, forest-ringed clay-pit lake at Freudenthal on the edge of Bestensee in the Dahme-Seenland, south-east of Berlin. It sits immediately south of the larger Großer Tonteich (Tonsee), whose shore is taken up by the Naturcamping Tonsee FKK campground, described by the Brandenburg tourism board as the largest public naturist area in the state. That neighbour shapes the small lake's character: the regional tourism board says the Kleiner Tonteich is not formally designated for FKK, yet walkers along its shore meet many naturists. Instead of one beach, the bank is broken into a string of small, quiet coves and entry points, some with benches, under pine and mixed woodland, so you choose your own spot and shade is easy to find. Like its neighbour it is known for very clear water, and the state's bathing-water monitoring rates it excellent. Expect a mix of nude and clothed bathers; it is calmer and less developed than the campground beach. There is no lifeguard and no facilities at the coves themselves, though day visitors can pay to use the campground's infrastructure, and there is a restaurant nearby.

The Kölpinsee is a large, open lake of roughly 5 by 7 km, lying between the Müritz to the east and the Fleesensee to the west, with the Elde waterway flowing through it, so you will see passing motorboats and canoes in season. The FKK beach sits on the Klink shore, close to a car park, and is promoted by the state tourism board as a quiet, natural spot away from the busy resort beaches. Its standout feature is the water: the lake stays very shallow for a long way out, which makes for easy wading and warm water in high summer and suits families with small children. It is a simple, undeveloped stretch with no toilets or kiosk, so it attracts people who want a calm day rather than facilities. Access is free at any time. Klink itself is a holiday village with hotels, holiday flats and the large resort complex on the isthmus between the Müritz and the Kölpinsee, so food and supplies are a short drive or walk away.

The Großer Fürstenseer See is a 228-hectare forest lake about 4 km south-east of Neustrelitz, on the eastern edge of the Müritz National Park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Apart from the village of Fürstensee, it is surrounded by woodland, much of the shore is fringed with reeds, and large parts of the lake are a nature reserve, so motorboats and scuba diving are banned. A peninsula, the Pankower Ort, divides its northern part into two arms, and narrow channels link it to neighbouring lakes such as the Hinnensee. The village bathing place has a jetty, light sand and a small playground. Separately, the south-east shore is known as the Natur- und FKK-Strand am Fürstensee: a wooded stretch of shoreline with many small, secluded swimming spots used by nude bathers, especially on hot days. It is a natural shore rather than a managed beach, with no facilities reported. The water is clear and of very good quality.

Naturbad Luppa is a lake bathing site in a former gravel pit between Luppa and Dahlen, in the municipality of Wermsdorf in northern Saxony. The water covers about 35 hectares and is edged by roughly 1.5 km of sandy beach with a gently shelving entry suitable for non-swimmers. The Neustädter See is an 82-hectare former gravel pit in the north of Magdeburg, ringed by the high-rise housing estates of Neustadt and run by the city as the Naherholungszentrum Neustädter See. Water plants are part of the lake's ecology; the city asks swimmers not to tear them out. The lake is a designated EU bathing water and has had temporary bans for blue-green algae, including in July 2024.

The Schwabinger Bucht is a broad meadow in the northern part of Munich's Englischer Garten and one of the six places where the City of Munich lifts the swimwear requirement under its bathing-clothing ordinance (Badekleidungsverordnung). The Sendener Baggerseen are flooded gravel pits in the Iller valley between Senden and Vöhringen, in Bavarian Swabia south of Ulm. The main bathing lake is the Waldbaggersee (also called Waldsee), split into a northern and a southern basin; next to it, separated by a reed belt, is the Großer Baggersee. The lakes straddle the boundary between the two towns, and the rules differ on each side. Nude bathing is allowed only on the lawn on the southern shore of the Waldbaggersee, which lies in Vöhringen; on Senden's side, a 2017 amendment to the town's green-spaces bylaw requires swimwear. Naturists have used the southern lawn for decades. Press reports describe it as well kept, with toilet cabins and a kiosk nearby, and regulars from across the region as well as families. The peninsula between the two basins earned national headlines in 2011 and 2012 under the nickname Porno Island, after complaints about sexual activity and people exposing themselves to other visitors. Police and a volunteer security patrol have since patrolled the area, and by 2019 police described the situation as calmer.

The Senftenberger See in southern Brandenburg is one of Germany's best-known former mining lakes, created by flooding the Niemtsch lignite pit in the 1970s. It covers about 1,300 hectares, reaches 25 metres deep and has around seven kilometres of sandy beaches and lawns, plus a 250-hectare wooded island that is a nature reserve and off limits. The nude section is at the Seestrand Buchwalde on the northern shore, near the town of Senftenberg. The city's own portal names the north shore of the Sieben-Meter-Teich as the nude area, shielded from the rest of the pond by trees and shrubs, so naturists there are largely out of sight of other visitors. The bank is grass rather than sand, and a jetty with a ladder lets swimmers drop straight into deep water. There is no lifeguard: bathing is at your own risk. The Südschnellweg expressway crosses the pond area, though tree cover screens most of it. Locals call the Kiesteiche the 'Costa Kiesa'. Blue-green algae are a recurring problem in the Kiesteiche, and regional authorities have temporarily banned swimming in the Sieben-Meter-Teich during algae blooms, so check the current status before a swim. Kitesurfing, windsurfing and beach sailing are big here, in designated corridors, so kites and sail-carts are part of the scene. Reviewers like the space and the quieter atmosphere compared with the main beach. The water stays cool, averaging around 16°C in summer and reaching about 19°C in August.

The Stadtwaldsee, which Bremen residents call the Unisee, lies in the Horn-Lehe district beside the University of Bremen, between the Technologiepark and the A27 motorway, north of the Bürgerpark and Stadtwald. In spring 2025 the city's environmental services restored the FKK bathing spot after nutrias had undermined the bank: the shore was levelled, re-sanded and cleared of sedges, with a fence and buoy line planned to keep swimmers out of the reed belt. Strandbad Wannsee is Berlin's classic lake lido on the eastern shore of the Großer Wannsee, a broad bay of the Havel at the edge of the Grunewald forest in the south-west of the city. Bathing here became official in 1907, and the long terraced complex of yellow-brick halls, colonnades and rooftop sun decks built in 1929-30 by Martin Wagner and Richard Ermisch is a listed monument of Berlin modernism, restored for the centenary in 2007. The beach is a strip of imported fine sand roughly 1.2-1.3 km long and up to 80 m wide, and the water is shallow and shelves gently, which makes it popular with families. Rows of hooded Strandkörbe give it a Baltic-coast look. The operator, the city-owned Berliner Bäder-Betriebe, sets aside an FKK area within the site, which visitBerlin puts at about a tenth of the total; nude bathing is allowed there, while the rest of the beach is textile. Facilities include a playground, beach volleyball and football, a water slide, snack bars and boat hire nearby. On hot summer weekends the bath can be very crowded, as it holds tens of thousands of people; weekdays and early mornings are calmer.

The Strandbad Wostra, on Dresden's south-eastern edge by the Elbe, is a naturist-only lake bath run by the municipal bathing company Dresdner Bäder. It has operated as a pure FKK facility since 1982. The grounds of about 20,000 m² surround a small renaturalised gravel lake with a fine-sand beach, rentable beach chairs and a broad lawn, with part of the water set aside as a non-swimmer area. There is also a playground, sports areas, shaded spots and a snack bar/café run by a tenant. The separate, textile Freibad Wostra lies immediately next door, so make sure you enter the Strandbad gate. It is a small bath compared with Dresden's large pools, and a day ticket costs less than at the city's textile open-air baths.

Buhne 16 is the beach north of Kampen on Sylt's North Sea west coast, named after the old groyne number at this point and probably the best-known nude beach in former West Germany. Today it is not a nude-only beach: the Sylt tourism site lists the green beach sections B, C and D at Buhne 16 as mixed textile and FKK zones, so nude and clothed people lie side by side, and a separate dog beach sits nearby. Visitors wanting a purely nude stretch tend to use the designated FKK beaches further north at List or south at Rantum (Samoa). The beach itself is wide, fine pale sand backed by high dunes, with open surf and the remains of groynes in the water, which the island authorities warn can be hidden at high tide. The legendary Strandbistro Buhne 16 at the beach access (Listlandstraße 133) is the social centre, with drinks, snacks and sit-down lunches plus a small beach shop. The section belongs to Kampen's northern guarded area, and the tourism office lists it as suitable for children. On Whitsun weekends large numbers of young people come for parties around the bistro, so expect it busy then and in July and August.

The Stausee Oberrabenstein is a small reservoir of about 6.5 hectares in the Rabenstein district on the western edge of Chemnitz, run as a managed lido with an entry fee. The operator describes a 400 m beach and a large lawn around the water, and Saxony's official tourism site lists a nudist beach among its features alongside swimming, rowing and pedal boats. Neither source says exactly which part of the shore is the nude section, so check with staff at the entrance. The site is built for day visitors: there is a bistro with a sun terrace of more than 200 seats, three further snack stands, a beach bar, a large slide and a pirate and aviation-themed playground, volleyball courts, table tennis and minigolf. That makes it a mixed family venue where the nude beach is one area among many, rather than a quiet wild shore. Dogs are not allowed. The Stausee is listed as an official bathing water by the State of Saxony. The Rabenstein forest around it has hiking and mountain-bike trails and a climbing park, and a campsite lies about ten minutes' walk away.

The Templiner See is a broad widening of the Havel south-west of central Potsdam, edged by the Templin forest. The place for nude bathing here is the Waldbad Templin, a lake lido on the forested shore run by the city's pool company, Bäderlandschaft Potsdam. Brandenburg's and Potsdam's official tourism sites both list an FKK area among its facilities, and the operator told the Berliner Zeitung that the FKK area is one of the most popular parts of the lido. The sources do not give its exact position within the grounds, so follow signs or ask at the entrance. The rest of the lido is a busy family venue: a large timed water slide, a floating bathing island, a shallow children's pool, beach volleyball and football pitches, lawn chess, beach chairs, a wakeboard facility and hire of rowing boats, pedal boats and kayaks. Food comes from a pavilion with a beer garden, and the Forsthaus Templin brewery is across the road. There are also bungalows and moorings for longer stays. The lido opens only in the warm season and is busiest on hot summer weekends.

The Teufelssee is a glacial lake in the Grunewald forest in Berlin's Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, about a short walk from the Heerstraße S-Bahn station. Nude bathing is permitted at the lake, and the south shore is the main swimming area. Its lawn on the south shore is the spot most visitors use for naturist bathing, and it is supervised by the DLRG water-rescue service. Facilities at the lake itself are minimal: visitors should bring food, drinks and towels, and there is no café or day-ticket infrastructure around the water. Dogs may not swim in the lake. In 2025 the district authority reported fake signs claiming nudity was banned at the lake and reported them. The lake is busy at weekends in summer and quieter on weekdays. Access is most practical by bicycle or car, as the walk from the station is considerable.

The Großer Tiergarten is Berlin's largest inner-city park, a roughly 255-hectare spread of lawns, woodland, canals and small lakes between the Brandenburg Gate and Zoo station, with the Victory Column at its centre. It has no beach and no swimming; what draws naturists is that nude sunbathing on some of its meadows has been tolerated for decades. Guides most often place the nude sunbathers around the Löwenbrücke, the small footbridge guarded by lion statues in the south-western part of the park, and on the open lawns nearby. The crowd is mostly men, many of them gay, and the area has a long reputation as a cruising spot; one Berlin magazine bluntly notes that some come for more than sun. Families and naturist couples tend to prefer Berlin's lake beaches instead, such as Plötzensee's fenced FKK area or Teufelssee. The lawns are grass under big trees, with plenty of shade, and on warm weekend afternoons they are busy with joggers, picnickers and cyclists passing on the paths, so nudity here is visible to the general public.

Timmendorfer Strand is one of the best-known seaside resorts on the Lübeck Bay coast of the Baltic, with a long, broad beach of fine pale sand and water that deepens very gradually, which makes it popular with families. The nude section is at the far northern end of the town's beach: the regional tourism board lists beach section 1, directly at the municipal boundary with Scharbeutz, as a designated FKK stretch. It sits close to the Ostsee-Therme and runs on into Scharbeutz's own FKK area, so the two towns effectively share a nude strip in the middle of an otherwise busy resort coastline. The nude section is calmer than the central promenade beaches, which are full of beach chairs, playground equipment and ball-game areas. The Baltic here has no real surf and only a small tidal range, so swimming is easy in summer. A dog beach is in section 3 near the Ostsee-Therme. Expect a mixed, mostly German crowd of couples, older regulars and some families on warm summer days.

The FKK bathing spot at Buchort lies on the western shore of the Tollensesee, the long glacial lake that runs south from Neubrandenburg in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is in the Brodaer Holz, a strip of woodland owned by the city of Neubrandenburg south of the guarded lido at Broda, on the Wulkenzin side of the lake. Neubrandenburg's tourist information names Buchort as the lake's nudist beach, alongside the textile beaches at Broda, Augustabad and Nonnenhof. This is a simple forest bathing place rather than a developed beach: a lying lawn among trees and a short stretch of shore from which you wade into the lake, with no kiosk, no lifeguard and no entry fee. The Tollensesee is about 10 km long and up to 2.5 km wide and reaches around 33 m deep; its water has been rated excellent under EU bathing-water monitoring, though it stays cool into midsummer. The crowd is small and mostly made up of older local regulars plus a few holidaymakers, and the mood is quiet. In winter 2021/22 the city cut back and felled trees around the site for safety reasons, leaving brushwood on the lawn for a time; it said it would clear the debris and restore the bathing spot.

The Badesee Trebgast is a man-made bathing lake on the edge of the village of Trebgast in Upper Franconia, about 10 km north-west of Bayreuth. Work began in 1972 and the lake opened in 1975. It is roughly 680 m long and 220 m wide, about 3.5 m deep on average and 4.5 m at its deepest, and is fed by four springs in the lake bed. A 1.5 km path runs around it, and there is an island in the middle. The official bathing-water profile from the Kulmbach district office lists an FKK beach among the facilities. The others are large lying lawns, a kiosk, pedal-boat hire, a skate area, a shallow-water bank, a non-swimmer zone, a big playground and a beach-volleyball court. The nude area is on the side of the lake away from the main entrance. Visitors say it is not clearly marked off and sits next to the volleyball court, so in practice it is a tolerated corner of lawn rather than a screened enclosure. The lake mainly serves as a family lido, and the water was rated excellent under the EU bathing directive in 2014-2016.

The Raunheimer Waldsee is a former gravel pit on the wooded southern edge of Raunheim, between Rüsselsheim and Frankfurt Airport. Bathing on the west shore has been run as a commercial lake bath called Pinta Beach since the site was rebuilt and reopened in summer 2018, and a wakeboard cable has operated on the lake since 2013. Inside the bath there is a separate FKK section away from the main beach; guides describing the 2018 reopening list it alongside the swimmer and non-swimmer areas, and a bathing-place directory still lists it among the facilities. Neither source gives its exact position on the grounds, so ask at the entrance. The rest of the bath has a sandy beach in front of a large lawn, a beach volleyball court, a ball-games lawn, a pirate-ship play structure, boat hire, a barbecue area, changing rooms with toilets and a kiosk. The lake is busy with day-trippers from the Rhine-Main area on hot weekends, when the main lawn can be loud. Visitors who use the FKK section describe it as the calmer part of the site.

Warnemünde, Rostock's seaside district at the mouth of the Warnow, has one of the widest beaches on the German Baltic, in places 100-200 m of fine white sand backed by a low dune and woodland. Nude bathing has deep roots here from GDR times, and the city still sets aside clear FKK sections. On the Warnemünde side the nude beach runs west from beach access 18 to access 24 towards Diedrichshagen; from 24 to 40 the beach is mixed textile and FKK, while accesses 1-18 nearest the lighthouse and cruise terminal are textile. Across the river, Markgrafenheide and Hohe Düne have further FKK stretches. The FKK strip is calmer than the crowded central beach, with a more local crowd of couples, families and older regulars, and dunes and woods behind instead of hotels. Lifeguards cover large parts of the main beach in season, but the city's beach information notes there is no water rescue on the FKK sections. Accesses 18 and 25 have firm paths to the water and entry aids for wheelchair users.

The Westsee is one of the Staffelstein lakes, a chain of former gravel pits in the Main valley near Nedensdorf, below the hills of Staffelberg and Banz. The Wulfener Hals is a narrow spit on the south coast of Fehmarn near the village of Wulfen, separating the Baltic from the Burger Binnensee lagoon. Shallow, current-free water and steady wind make it one of the island's best-known surfing spots, and most of the spit is taken up by the large Camping- und Ferienpark Wulfener Hals, with a golf course nearby. The island's tourism service lists a nude section here, FKK-Baden Wulfen, as a fine-sand beach close to the campsite. According to the campsite, the beach on the spit is widest on its north-east side, where the water stays shallow for almost 200 m, and the nude section lies at the far end of the spit, in the part that is not under nature protection. The very tip of the spit is closed to protect nesting birds, so keep to the signed area. The sand is fine in places and mixed with stones in others, and only the main campsite beach is cleaned regularly; the natural sections are left as they are. A separate dog beach lies west of the harbour mole along the low cliff.

The Zeischaer Kiessee is a large gravel-pit lake on the eastern edge of Bad Liebenwerda in southern Brandenburg, between the villages of Dobra and Zeischa beside the B101, inside the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park. Gravel has been dug here since 1888 and extraction still goes on in the main pit, which covers about 80 hectares and stays under mining law. Bathing is concentrated in the Waldbad Zeischa, a lake bath of about three hectares in a forest-fringed bay in the south-east of the pit, opened as a local recreation area in 1970. Brandenburg's tourism board describes a wide, lifeguarded beach that keeps a spot for FKK bathers; neither the board nor the operator's listings say where on the beach this is, so ask at the entrance. The water is an EU-designated bathing water and is praised for its quality. On site there are volleyball courts, table tennis, boat hire at the jetty, the Zum Waldbad restaurant, a campsite of about 140 pitches and rental bungalows. Angling is limited to marked zones, and the bath and the rest of the pit are run by different operators, so stay within the bathing area.
