About Heidesee
The Heidesee lies in Nietleben on the western edge of Halle (Saale), about 5 km from the city centre, with the pine, beech and oak woods of the Dölauer Heide along its southern side. It is a flooded lignite pit: mining began in the early 19th century, and after the Neuglück mine closed in 1931 rising groundwater filled the hole, creating a lake roughly 800 m long, up to 300 m wide and about 12.5 ha in area. The city opened a public bath on the north shore in the 1950s, and since 2007 it has been run privately as the Heidebad. The bathing area is split into two sandy beaches of about 150 m each: one textile, one FKK. Around them the operator has added a climbing forest, wakeboarding and stand-up paddling, plus catering and toilets, so the lido is busy and family-oriented on summer days. The lake is also a hub for runners and cyclists on the sandy forest tracks, and the Heidelauf running event starts here several times a year. Water colour is sometimes described as greenish but fine for swimming.
Getting there
The Heidebad is on the north shore of the Heidesee in Halle-Nietleben, about 5 km west of central Halle, reached by car or bike via Nietleben; forest paths from the Dölauer Heide also lead to the lake. Entry is through the lido, which charges admission (current prices not published in sources found). Opening hours reported from halle365.de: daily 9:00-20:00 June to September, 10:00-19:00 in April and May, weekends only 10:00-18:00 the rest of the year. Check current hours before going. Sand paths around the lake are uneven.
What visitors say
Visitors call the Heidesee one of the nicest bathing lakes around Halle, valuing the two separate sandy beaches, the forest setting and the range of activities, from wakeboarding to the climbing forest. Some note that the water can look greenish in late summer but is fine for swimming. The lido is commercial and busy on hot weekends. The 2026 dispute over the operator's German-language entry rule drew wide criticism, which was resolved with multilingual signs. Recent first-hand reports on the FKK beach itself are scarce.

Legal context
Nude bathing is permitted in the designated FKK beach of the Heidebad, which Saxony-Anhalt's bathing-water profile lists alongside the textile beach. The lido is privately operated under a lease from the City of Halle, and its own house rules apply. In June 2026 the operator briefly refused entry to visitors without sufficient German; the city called this a breach of the lease, and the operator agreed to install multilingual rule boards instead.
Naturism at Heidesee sits under Germany's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
