About Aileswasensee

The Aileswasensee is a former gravel pit, dug between 1958 and 1971, on the far side of the Neckar from Neckartailfingen in the Esslingen district, about 20 minutes from Stuttgart, Esslingen and Tübingen. It is a municipal recreation area with a sandy beach and shallow zone on the south shore for small children, large lawns with shade trees, a lakeside restaurant and the Seehaus with kiosk, changing rooms and toilets. The water is shallow, reportedly 2 to 4 metres at most, and so warms up quickly. Part of the lake is a nature reserve where swimming and boating are banned. Nude bathers have a separate, fenced-off area on the west side of the lake, signposted with an FKK sign: walk right from the car park along the shore, past the snack kiosk, and about 200 metres further. A regional newspaper describes the separate FKK area as one of the lake's features. The site sits directly below the B 313, so there is road noise, and on hot weekends lawns and car park are often full. Barbecues are banned in the surrounding area, and the municipality closes the lake each year on Walpurgis Night and 1 May.

Getting there

Cross the Neckar bridge from the centre of Neckartailfingen and follow the signs; from the B 313 (Nürtingen-Tübingen) take the Neckartailfingen exit. A large car park in front of the lake charges a fee, older reports say about 2.50 euros, plus a small entry charge, and fees apply until 20:00. From the car park walk right along the shore past the kiosk to the FKK area, about 5 minutes on level paths. Arriving by bike is recommended on busy weekends. There is a ban on staying at the lake overnight (22:00 to 06:00).

What visitors say

Visitors describe clean, warm, shallow water and a pleasant secluded FKK area with shade trees, though the entry points into the water there are awkward despite fresh sand. Weekends are very crowded and noisy, with full car parks and illegal barbecues; some complain about cigarette butts and litter and about dogs in the water despite signs. Road noise from the B 313 is noticeable.

Legal context

A separate, signed FKK area exists on the west shore, but no published municipal designation was found. Neckartailfingen's police ordinance of 24 March 2026 bans being without proper clothing on the recreation area's land outside the lakeshore zone; the shore and water fall under a separate lake-use ordinance. Swimming was banned until further notice in August 2026 after a fish die-off, so check current status.

Naturism at Aileswasensee sits under Germany's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
