About Waldsee

The Raunheimer Waldsee is a former gravel pit on the wooded southern edge of Raunheim, between Rüsselsheim and Frankfurt Airport. Bathing on the west shore has been run as a commercial lake bath called Pinta Beach since the site was rebuilt and reopened in summer 2018, and a wakeboard cable has operated on the lake since 2013. Inside the bath there is a separate FKK section away from the main beach; guides describing the 2018 reopening list it alongside the swimmer and non-swimmer areas, and a bathing-place directory still lists it among the facilities. Neither source gives its exact position on the grounds, so ask at the entrance. The rest of the bath has a sandy beach in front of a large lawn, a beach volleyball court, a ball-games lawn, a pirate-ship play structure, boat hire, a barbecue area, changing rooms with toilets and a kiosk. The lake is busy with day-trippers from the Rhine-Main area on hot weekends, when the main lawn can be loud. Visitors who use the FKK section describe it as the calmer part of the site.

Getting there

The lake bath is at Aschaffenburger Straße in Raunheim (65479), on the forest edge south of the town; follow signs for the Waldsee or Pinta Beach. Raunheim station (S-Bahn S8/S9 between Wiesbaden/Mainz and Frankfurt) is in the town, and the lake can be reached from there on foot or by bike through Raunheim. Admission is charged; tickets are sold through the operator's website (pinta-beach.de), which gave no prices when checked in October 2026. Directory hours are 10:00-20:00 on weekdays and 8:00-20:00 at weekends during the season. Parking details were not found.

What visitors say

Reviews on a German bathing-place directory are mixed. The most common complaint is noise on the main lawn at weekends and in the school holidays, with loud music, shisha smoking and ball games. Several people say weekday mornings are much calmer, and the FKK section is singled out as the quieter part of the site. Some report that the kiosk cannot keep up on hot days. Others note that the water quality and the look of the lake have improved in recent years. There is also confusion over windsurfing: a surf area is listed, but one visitor was told it is not allowed.

Legal context

Nude bathing is permitted only in the separate FKK section of the privately run lake bath; the rest of the grounds is a textile area under the operator's house rules. No municipal designation of the FKK area was found (checked 2026).

Naturism at Waldsee sits under Germany's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a nude area at the Raunheimer Waldsee?

Yes. The Pinta Beach lake bath has a separate FKK section, apart from the main beach. Nudity is only for that section.

Do I have to pay?

Yes. It is a commercial lake bath with paid entry during the season. Tickets are sold online through pinta-beach.de.

When is it quietest?

Weekday mornings. Weekends and school holidays bring crowds and loud music to the main lawn, though the FKK section is reported to stay calmer.

Can I get there by train?

Raunheim has an S-Bahn station on the Frankfurt-Mainz/Wiesbaden line, and the lake is on the southern edge of town.
