About Eschacher Weiher
The Eschacher Weiher is a small upland lake at about 1,000 m in the Kempter Wald hills of the Oberallgäu, in the municipality of Buchenberg west of Kempten, reached past the hamlet of Eschach. It lies in a nature reserve between wooded ridges, and the water is soft, brownish bog water that swimmers describe as clean and refreshing in summer. On the south side a grassy lying-out shore runs along the water, and for years the western half of this lawn has been used by nude bathers; one regional lake guide notes a separately marked-off area for FKK, and a regular describes the nude area as large and less hidden away than at many other lakes. The rest of the shore is used by clothed families, so the two groups lie side by side rather than at separate ends. There is no kiosk, so bring food and drink; simple dry toilets have been reported. Because of the altitude the water stays cooler than lowland gravel lakes and the bathing season is short. Outside summer the lake is a popular stop on hiking loops and, in winter, with cross-country skiers.
Getting there
From Kempten take the old B12 towards Isny; in Buchenberg turn right towards Eschach and follow the road through Eschach to the lake. There is a car park on the slope north of and above the lake, which gets very busy on winter-sport days; no fee was documented. The lake is reached on foot from the car park on a short downhill path. There is no direct public transport to the lake; buses run from Kempten to Buchenberg, about 5 km away. The nude part of the lawn is the western half of the bathing shore. Terrain is grass and forest path, not suitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Visitors describe the Eschacher Weiher as a peaceful, natural Allgäu bathing spot with clean, bog-brown water that is pleasant on hot days but cool. Nude and clothed bathers share the lawn with little friction, and one regular praises the generous FKK area. Common tips are to bring your own food and drinks because there is no kiosk, and to come early on fine weekends because parking is limited. Some hikers mention the lake mostly as a walking destination. Detailed recent reviews of the nude area are scarce.

Legal context
Bathing is customary here and nudity has been tolerated for years in the western part of the lawn; a regional lake guide describes a separately marked-off FKK area, but no municipal designation was found online (2026). The lake lies in a nature reserve, so stay on paths and lawns and observe reserve rules. No enforcement problems were reported.
Naturism at Eschacher Weiher sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
