About Schleichersee
The Schleichersee is a small former gravel-pit lake in the Oberaue recreation area in the south of Jena, beside a loop of the Saale. It is not a free public shore: the lake is run as the Südbad, a seasonal outdoor bath operated by the city-owned Jenaer Bäder und Freizeit GmbH (Stadtwerke Jena), and you pay to enter. The operator lists an FKK area among the facilities, and its house rules allow bathing without clothing in the signposted FKK areas while banning photography and filming there. Visitor reviews place the nude area at the far end of the grounds with its own access to the water. The lake covers about 1.5 hectares and is up to 3.5 metres deep, with separate areas for swimmers and non-swimmers. Around it are sunbathing lawns, a small sandy strip, a children's paddling pool with a sun awning, a playground and a snack bar with a terrace. It is a family-oriented municipal bath, so the FKK section sits within a mostly textile facility rather than being a stand-alone naturist beach. Some visitors find the small lake crowded on hot days.
Getting there
The Südbad is at Oberaue, 07749 Jena, in the Saale meadows on the southern edge of the city. Entry in the 2026 season cost 5.00 EUR for adults, 3.50 EUR reduced and 2.50 EUR for children aged 4 to 14, with family, ten-visit, evening and season tickets available. Opening was 10:00-18:00 in May, June and September and 9:00-20:00 in July and August; last entry is an hour before closing. The bath has a car park (it is occasionally closed for events) and a barrier-free toilet with a changing table. Walk to the far end of the grounds for the FKK section.
What visitors say
Public reviews describe the Südbad as a pleasant, simple lake bath with lawns, a little sand, changing cabins and a snack bar. The FKK area is reported to be at the back of the grounds with its own water access, which regulars appreciate. The main criticism is that the lake is small for the number of visitors on hot summer days. Information is thin, so treat these impressions as limited.
