About Barmener See
The Barmener See is a flooded gravel pit in the Rur valley next to the village of Barmen, a few kilometres north of Jülich. The western shore is the recreation side, with the official bathing site at Seestraße: a sandy beach of about 150 m and a buoyed swimming zone, with water rated excellent in the EU bathing-water monitoring. The eastern shore and a small island are a nature reserve and bird refuge with a hide, and a footpath of about 3.5 km circles the lake. Nude bathers traditionally used the wooded back part of the lake beyond the official beach, an unofficial spot tolerated by other visitors, where regulars expected everyone to take their litter home. Since the city's 2022 ordinance, swimming outside the buoyed zone and leaving the marked paths are both banned, which limits where that practice can continue.
Getting there
Barmen lies a few kilometres north of Jülich. Park at the sports fields on the road to the lake and walk a short distance to the bathing site at Seestraße; the circular path is easy and level. Cycling is not permitted within the protected area under the 2022 ordinance, so bikes must be left at the edge. Paths around the wooded part are narrow, and leaving them is prohibited.

Legal context
Jülich's ordinance of 24 June 2022 for the Baggersee Barmen bans swimming outside the buoyed bathing zone, leaving the paths, unleashed dogs, grilling, camping and cycling; it does not mention nudity. Nude use in the wooded part was described as unofficial but tolerated in an undated nacktbaden.de entry; no official FKK zone exists.
Naturism at Barmener See sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
