About Kulkwitzer See
The Kulkwitzer See, known locally as the Kulki, is a flooded former lignite pit on Leipzig's western edge, shared between Leipzig-Grünau and the town of Markranstädt. It is one of the region's most used bathing lakes, with several beaches, a campsite, diving bases and a circular path. According to the City of Leipzig's 2020 answer to a council question, as reported by the Leipziger Internet Zeitung, the only official FKK beach within Leipzig's boundaries is a signposted stretch of shore on the Kulkwitzer See between the restaurant in the 'Rotes Haus' and the dive base of the Leipziger Delphine diving club. Since 2015 the bushes between the circular path and the embankment there have been kept as a screen for bathers. Lake directories also mention an FKK section at the Lausen beach on the western, Markranstädt side; check signage on arrival, since the descriptions differ. The water is clear and popular with divers, and the shore mixes sand, lawn and shrubs. On hot weekends the lake gets very busy, and the nude area sits close to the shared path, so expect passers-by.
Getting there
The lake lies on the western edge of Leipzig, next to the Grünau housing estate, and is reachable from the city by Leipzig's public transport network to Grünau followed by a walk; check LVB for the nearest stop to the eastern shore. There are car parks around the lake that fill early on hot weekends. A circular path runs round the whole lake and gives level access to each shore section; the FKK stretch on the eastern side lies between the Rotes Haus restaurant and the diving base, below the path behind a screen of bushes.

Legal context
In September 2020 the City of Leipzig, answering a question from the Linke council group, said a stretch between the Rotes Haus and the Leipziger Delphine dive base is signposted as the only official FKK beach in Leipzig. Patrols in plain clothes and uniform check the path in summer, and people have been ordered to leave for misconduct. We saw this only as a newspaper report, not on an official page.
