About Tiergarten
The Großer Tiergarten is Berlin's largest inner-city park, a roughly 255-hectare spread of lawns, woodland, canals and small lakes between the Brandenburg Gate and Zoo station, with the Victory Column at its centre. It has no beach and no swimming; what draws naturists is that nude sunbathing on some of its meadows has been tolerated for decades. Guides most often place the nude sunbathers around the Löwenbrücke, the small footbridge guarded by lion statues in the south-western part of the park, and on the open lawns nearby. The crowd is mostly men, many of them gay, and the area has a long reputation as a cruising spot; one Berlin magazine bluntly notes that some come for more than sun. Families and naturist couples tend to prefer Berlin's lake beaches instead, such as Plötzensee's fenced FKK area or Teufelssee. The lawns are grass under big trees, with plenty of shade, and on warm weekend afternoons they are busy with joggers, picnickers and cyclists passing on the paths, so nudity here is visible to the general public.
Getting there
The park is in central Berlin with many entrances. For the south-western part near the Löwenbrücke, take S-Bahn or U-Bahn to Zoologischer Garten or S-Bahn to Tiergarten station, then walk 5-15 minutes into the park; bus 100 and 200 run along the edges. Paths are flat and paved or gravel, so the lawns are easy to reach, including with a wheelchair on the main paths. Car parking in the area is scarce and metered; public transport is the sensible option.
What visitors say
Berlin guides describe the Tiergarten as one of the few central parks where nude sunbathing is at least tolerated, with men stripping off on its meadows for decades. The crowd is overwhelmingly male and the area doubles as a cruising spot, which some visitors see as part of its character and others find off-putting. There is no signage or fenced zone, so visitors are mixed with ordinary park users. Those looking for a family or swimming option are usually pointed to Berlin's lakes instead.

Amenities
Legal context
There is no official FKK area in the Tiergarten; Berlin guides (2025) describe nude sunbathing as not officially permitted but tolerated in parts of the park. Nudity in public is not itself an offence in Germany, but sexual activity in public is, and police have periodically checked cruising areas in Berlin parks.
Naturism at Tiergarten sits under Germany's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Frequently asked questions
Is nude sunbathing legal in the Tiergarten?
There is no designated FKK area, but nude sunbathing in parts of the park has long been tolerated. Sexual activity in public is illegal.
Where in the Tiergarten do people sunbathe nude?
Guides point to the meadows around the Löwenbrücke in the south-western part of the park.
Can I swim there?
No. It is a park with canals and ponds, not a bathing site. For nude swimming in Berlin, try the FKK area at Strandbad Plötzensee or Teufelssee.
Is it suitable for families?
Not really. The nude lawns are mostly used by men and are known as a cruising area.
