About Langener Waldsee

The Langener Waldsee is a large former gravel pit in the forest between Langen and Frankfurt Airport, southeast of the airport off the Kleinseeschneise. Part of it is run as a paid lake bath (Strandbad), with about 900 metres of sandy beach, lawns, a snack kiosk, a playground, showers, beach volleyball courts and swimming platforms out in the water, plus a campsite. Inside the bath there is a separate, fenced-off FKK area apart from the main beach; a regional tourism listing places a popular FKK beach on the northern shore. The bath opens for the summer season only, roughly mid-May to mid-September, and gets crowded on hot weekends with day-trippers from Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Aircraft from the nearby airport pass overhead. The surrounding forest has cycling, walking and riding trails, so many people arrive by bike.

Getting there

The lake is about 13 km south of central Frankfurt, reached from Langen via the forest road Kleinseeschneise. There is a car park at the Strandbad; on hot weekends it fills. Cycling through the forest from Langen or Frankfurt is popular. Entry to the Strandbad is charged (a 2018 article gave 4 euros, reduced 3 euros); check the operator, Bäder- und Hallenmanagement Langen, for current prices and hours. Paths inside are level sand and lawn.
