About Flaucher FKK Strand

The Flaucher is a stretch of the Isar in Munich's Sendling and Thalkirchen area, between the Thalkirchner Bruecke and the Brudermuehlbruecke, about 3 km south of the city centre. Roughly 700 m north of the Thalkirchen bridge the river splits into several arms, leaving islands and wide gravel banks that were reshaped when this part of the Isar was renaturalised in the 2000s. The name comes from the 'Zum Flaucher' inn opened by Johann Flaucher around 1870 on the west bank, now a beer garden. The city's bathing-clothing ordinance designates the large gravel bank east of the Flauchersteg footbridge as one of Munich's six official nude bathing areas; only the area marked on the city's map counts, and signs on site show the limits. Expect coarse gravel rather than sand, so bring a thick mat, and cold, fast-flowing water with changing currents. In summer the gravel banks are among the busiest spots on the river: nude and clothed visitors mix, crowds are young, and evening barbecues and bonfire parties are common, which can leave litter behind. A second official zone lies a little north, between the Braunauer railway bridge and the Brudermuehlbruecke.

Getting there

Take the U3 to Thalkirchen (Tierpark), cross to the east side of the Thalkirchner Bruecke and walk a few hundred metres downstream to the Flauchersteg, the wooden footbridge that crosses the river arms to the gravel bank. Cycling along the Isar paths from the city centre is the most common way to arrive. Drivers can use the car parks by the Tierpark Hellabrunn, which fill quickly on hot days. Access to the gravel bank is over uneven stones and is not suitable for wheelchairs.

What visitors say

Guides and visitor reports describe the Flaucher gravel bank as one of Munich's most popular nude bathing spots and an easy city escape, with nude and clothed people coexisting peacefully. Many visitors are young, and summer evenings bring barbecues and bonfires. Common warnings concern the very cold, fast water, the hard gravel, and litter left after parties. Some locals avoid it because the chance of running into acquaintances is high.

Legal context

The City of Munich's bathing-clothing ordinance (Badekleidungsverordnung) lists the large gravel bank east of the Flauchersteg as an official nude bathing area; the ordinance only lifts the swimwear requirement and the mapped boundary and on-site signs are decisive (muenchen.de, 2026). Outside the marked area swimwear is required. Swimming in the Isar is at your own risk and bathing bans and safety rules still apply.

Naturism at Flaucher FKK Strand sits under Germany's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
