About Diemelsee
The Diemelsee is a reservoir of about 165 hectares on the Diemel, straddling the border between the Waldecker Land in northern Hesse and the Hochsauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia, with Heringhausen and Helminghausen on its shores. Its water has been rated excellent in EU bathing-water monitoring. According to naturist reports going back many years, the FKK shore is at the upper end of the lake towards Bontkirchen, away from the lidos and campsites. It is a strip of roughly 200 to 300 m of grassy, bushy bank reached on foot from a forest car park, where nude bathing has been practised for a long time. This is a natural shoreline, not a beach: lying spots are scattered between scrub, and there are no facilities. The bank runs directly alongside a cycling and walking path and can be seen from it, which brings passers-by. Whether the area is still signposted is disputed in recent comments, so treat it as an informal spot.
Getting there
Drive towards the end of the lake in the direction of Bontkirchen, turn off the main road and cross a small bridge to a forest car park. From there it is about a 10-minute walk to the FKK bank. The paths are unsurfaced and the shore is overgrown, so it is not accessible for wheelchairs. Food, toilets and lifeguards are only available at the lidos (for example the Strandbad Helminghausen) further down the lake.
What visitors say
Reports are mixed. The location is easy to find, but visitors describe the 'beach' as thicket with only a few scattered lying spots between the bushes. Because it borders a busy cycle and walking path and can be seen from it, there are complaints about onlookers and voyeurs, and people looking for real seclusion are disappointed. Other visitors simply ask whether FKK still happens here, suggesting use has declined. The lake itself is praised as clean and scenic.

Legal context
Older reports describe the FKK bank as signposted, but a seen.de commenter found no FKK sign along the Bontkirchen to Helminghausen road and no official designation by the municipality of Diemelsee was found. Part of the upper lake lies in a nature reserve, where local rules apply.
Naturism at Diemelsee sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
