About Baggersee Dettelbach
The Baggersee Dettelbach is an active gravel-pit lake just outside Dettelbach in Lower Franconia, between the town and the Main village of Mainsondheim, about 20 km east of Würzburg. The town's official bulletin promoted the new bathing season at the lake in spring 2024, and route guides describe it as a large quarry lake with a bathing area, so it is now used openly by local swimmers. Nude bathing here is informal. Contributors to nacktbaden.de (2001 to 2003) report that the front part near the access is textile, and that walking part of the way round the lake, to the right, brings you to the area where nude bathing is usual and tolerated, towards the back near the conveyor belt of the gravel works. They describe clean water, steep banks in places and little shade, with families at weekends and mostly men and older couples on weekdays. They also noted that ongoing extraction kept enlarging the lake and shrinking the lying areas, so the layout may have changed considerably since those reports.
Getting there
Dettelbach is reached from Würzburg via the B8 towards Kitzingen and then the B22. Older reports describe driving through the town and turning right onto a farm track about 100 m after the edge of town, with the lake immediately on the left; another describes parking at a supermarket car park on the B22 and walking across a field path. Parking near the lake is limited, and contributors warned that cars left along the road were towed. From the textile area, walk round to the right to reach the nude section. Banks are partly steep and paths unsurfaced.
What visitors say
The only detailed accounts (nacktbaden.de, 2001 to 2003) describe a quiet, clean lake with good water, with a textile front section and a tolerated nude area further round. Contributors mention scarce shade, steep banks, and a mostly male and older-couple crowd on weekdays, with more families at weekends. They also warned about towing of cars parked on the road. No recent visitor reports on nude use were found.

Legal context
No designated FKK area was found. Early-2000s reports describe nude bathing as unofficial but customary and tolerated, at a time when 'Baden verboten' signs stood at the active gravel works. The Stadt Dettelbach now promotes the lake for bathing (2024 bulletin), but no official rule on nudity was found.
Naturism at Baggersee Dettelbach sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
