About Pirna: Naturbad

The Naturbadesee in Copitz, the part of Pirna on the right bank of the Elbe, is a former gravel pit next to the town's campsite at Äußere Pillnitzer Landstraße. The regional tourism association for Saxon Switzerland lists it as a free natural bathing lake with a separately designated FKK area; its exact position on the shore is not described in the sources, so look for signs on arrival. The lake has a large sandy beach with a shallow entry that suits small children, a broad lawn for picnics, six beach-volleyball courts by the water, table tennis and play equipment, plus a kiosk and a small restaurant. Mobile toilets stand at both entrances. Bathing is at your own risk because there is no lifeguard. Fishing with a licence and private stand-up paddleboards are allowed, motorboats are not. The campsite operator gives the grounds' hours as 07:00 to 22:00 from April to October. Being on the edge of a town of about 40,000 and close to Dresden, it is a busy local lake on summer weekends rather than a secluded spot.

Getting there

The lake is at Äußere Pillnitzer Landstraße 19, 01796 Pirna-Copitz, beside Camping Pirna. There are about 150 free parking spaces at the Äußere Pillnitzer Straße car park and about 300 at the Söbrigener Weg car park. Buses 236 and G/L stop at Copitz Wesenitztalschänke or Copitz Äußere Pillnitzer Straße, about a 7-9 minute walk away. Entry is free. Paths to the beach are short and flat.
