About Badestrand - Rottzipf

Rottzipf is the small river delta on the south shore of the Chiemsee in the municipality of Übersee, a couple of kilometres west of the official FKK grounds at the Feldwieser Winkel. Its shoreline is used as an unofficial, long-standing 'wild' nude beach. According to nacktbaden.de contributors, nude use here has two strands: the north shore of the delta was once a naturist club's private beach and is still used informally after the club moved, and the west side of the delta has been a free, tolerated FKK beach for decades. Both consist of a string of small to medium bathing bays reached along footpaths through a strip of woodland in a landscape protection area. The west-side beach is described as long and scenic, looking across the lake to the Fraueninsel with the Chiemgau Alps behind. There are no toilets, kiosk or nearby parking, and the A8 motorway runs close behind the shore, so traffic noise is audible. Sailors and motorboats often anchor off the bays. Note that the detailed reports date from 2000 to 2007; those wanting facilities, an entry gate and a clearly designated area should use the Feldwieser Winkel instead.

Getting there

Reach it from the Chiemsee-Uferweg (lakeside cycle and footpath) at Übersee. The first part of the path can be driven, but there is no parking close to the beach, so contributors recommend cycling the last stretch: about 10 minutes past the motorway rest area, through the second underpass beneath the A8, then after a small pond turn north towards the lake. After roughly 200 m through a small wood the informal area begins, with many narrow trails (also cyclable) to the individual bays. Paths are unsurfaced and there is no step-free access. The Übersee station on the Munich–Salzburg line is the nearest railway stop.

What visitors say

The few published accounts, all on nacktbaden.de and dating from 2000 to 2007, describe the setting as very beautiful, with small secluded bays, mountain views and a long, quiet western shore. The main drawbacks mentioned are the complete lack of facilities, the distance from parking and the motorway noise. Contributors present it as the free alternative to the paid, managed FKK grounds at Feldwies. Recent reports were not found, so current conditions are uncertain.

Legal context

Rottzipf is not a designated FKK area; nude bathing here is informal and tolerated rather than authorised. Nacktbaden.de's account says water police historically moved nude bathers away from the Tiroler Achen mouth for nature-protection reasons, which led the municipality to create the official FKK site at the Feldwieser Winkel. The Rottzipf shore lies in a landscape protection area, so stay on paths and away from reed beds.
