About FKK-Strand Travemünde

Travemünde is Lübeck's seaside resort on the Bay of Lübeck. North of its main promenade beach (Kurstrand) the coast rises into the Brodtener Steilufer, an eroding clay cliff that is largely protected as a nature and bird reserve. The Travemünde tourism office lists one of the resort's two designated FKK areas here, behind the yacht club at the northern end of the Kurstrand where the cliff coast begins. The other FKK area is on Priwall, across the river. The beach below the cliff is narrower and more natural than the wide, sand-replenished Kurstrand, and stones and clay from the cliff reach the shore. Unlike the Kurstrand and Priwall, the Brodtener Ufer beach is generally free of charge. A year-round dog beach and a dog bathing jetty are also on this stretch, at the Söhrmanndamm just behind the northern Kurstrand. The cliff edge is unstable, so keep to marked paths and observe the barriers above the beach.

Getting there

Walk north along the Travemünde beach promenade past the end of the Kurstrand. The FKK area is behind the yacht club, near the Mövenstein car park at the end of the promenade. From there a footpath continues along the top of the Brodtener cliff toward Hermannshöhe, about 2 km away. Beach use here is free. Travemünde has rail connections to Lübeck at Travemünde Strand station.

Legal context

The Travemünde tourism office lists a designated ('ausgewiesener') FKK area at the Brodtener Steilufer, behind the yacht club. The cliff coast is a protected area, and barriers along the cliff edge because of collapse risk must be respected. Dogs are banned on the Kurstrand from 1 April to 31 October but allowed on the nearby dog beach.

Naturism at FKK-Strand Travemünde sits under Germany's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the nude beach in Travemünde?

There are two. One is at the Brodtener Steilufer behind the yacht club, north of the main beach. The other is on the eastern Priwall beach across the river.

Is there a fee?

The Brodtener Ufer beach is generally free, unlike the Kurstrand and Priwall.

Is it safe below the cliff?

The Brodtener cliff is actively eroding. Keep to marked paths, respect the barriers, and do not sit directly under the cliff face.
