About Senftenberger See

The Senftenberger See in southern Brandenburg is one of Germany's best-known former mining lakes, created by flooding the Niemtsch lignite pit in the 1970s. It covers about 1,300 hectares, reaches 25 metres deep and has around seven kilometres of sandy beaches and lawns, plus a 250-hectare wooded island that is a nature reserve and off limits. The nude section is at the Seestrand Buchwalde on the northern shore, near the town of Senftenberg. This 600-metre beach is divided into marked textile, FKK and surfing sections, and is popular with windsurfers. Facilities at Buchwalde include a restaurant, snack bar, toilets, a playground, a beach-volleyball court, a water slide and a motorhome pitch overlooking the lake. Other naturist spots are mentioned by unofficial sources, including a quieter shallow stretch near the Südsee on the south side and a section at Niemtsch, but we could not confirm these with an official source. The lake is busy in summer with day visitors and campers, and an 18-kilometre mostly paved path circles it, making it easy to combine a beach day with a bike ride.

Getting there

Seestrand Buchwalde is at Buchwalder Straße 77, 01968 Senftenberg (district Buchwalde), on the northern shore. There is a paid car park at the beach; we did not find the current fee. Senftenberg is served by regional trains (RE7), and the beach is reachable from the town by bike or on foot along the 18-km lakeside path, which is mostly asphalt and flat. The beach itself is sand. Look for the signs that mark the textile, FKK and surf sections along the 600-metre beach.
