About Baggersee Mittelgrund
The Mittelgrund is a large, clear gravel-pit lake on the north-western edge of Leopoldshafen, in the Rhine lowlands north of Karlsruhe, with gravel still being extracted on its western side. It is also listed as the Kiesgrube Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen or Baggersee Leopoldshafen, and the Streitköpfle lake lies about 1 km further north. A sailing club and a stand-up paddle club use the water. Near the access road are wide, gently shelving textile beaches. According to nacktbaden.de contributors (2003 and 2004), nude bathers use the wooded south-eastern shore, where many small entry points with little lying areas lie between bushes and trees as far as the angling club's protected stretch, giving good shade. A second contributor found nude and clothed bathers mixing across the whole area without friction, with a mixed crowd of all ages. Visitors on seen.de describe clean, slightly warmer water than nearby lakes and shallow entries in places, but no toilets. The water deepens quickly beyond the shallows because of extraction, so children need watching.
Getting there
From the B36 (Karlsruhe–Mannheim) take the Leopoldshafen exit and drive straight through towards the old Rhine ferry; after leaving the village the car park is on the right, screened from the road by trees. Parking is very limited and visitors recommend coming by bike. For the south-eastern nude shore, turn onto a gravel track just before the sailing club and continue on foot or by bike; the wooded section starts after a few hundred metres. No entry fee was reported.
What visitors say
The available reports, mostly from 2003 and 2004, praise the blue-green, clear water, the sandy beaches and the shaded bays of the south-eastern shore, and say nude and clothed visitors mix without problems. More recent seen.de comments describe clean water, a pleasant atmosphere with a livelier party zone and quieter entry points, and shallow areas good for children, but complain about the lack of toilets and scarce parking.

Legal context
No designated FKK area or municipal rule on nudity was found; reports from 2003 and 2004 describe nude bathing as accepted on the south-eastern shore and mixed elsewhere. Gravel extraction is ongoing in the west, and the angling club's protected shore section should be avoided.
Naturism at Baggersee Mittelgrund sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
