About Geiseltalsee

The Geiseltalsee, south of Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt, fills a former lignite strip mine that was flooded with water from the Saale between 2003 and 2011. It is the largest lake in the state. Towns, vineyards and new beaches surround it, and a cycle path circles the shore. The nude area is not at Braunsbedra but at Strandbad Stöbnitz on the western side near Mücheln, on the peninsula by the Stöbnitz lookout tower. Tourism listings for the region describe the beach as having a supervised section, a textile section and an FKK section side by side, with a sunbathing lawn and a beach of sand and fine gravel. The Stöbnitz beach also has catering, a playground, beach volleyball courts and SUP and pedal boat hire, and one listing says entry is free. The Wasserwacht keeps a station on the lake. Tourism listings rate the water quality as excellent. The Frankleben beach near Braunsbedra has a fenced dog beach but no reported FKK section.

Getting there

By car, leave the A38 at Merseburg-Süd and drive via Frankleben and Braunsbedra to Mücheln, then follow signs to Strandbad Stöbnitz and the lookout tower. There is parking close to the beach. Regional trains stop at Mücheln (Geiseltal), the nearest station to the beach. The lakeside cycle path that circles the Geiseltalsee passes the beach.

Legal context

Regional tourism listings describe a dedicated FKK section at Strandbad Stöbnitz, next to the supervised textile section (seen 2026). We did not see this on an official municipal or Saale-Unstrut-Tourismus page ourselves. Nudity is expected only in the FKK section.

Naturism at Geiseltalsee sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
