About Naturist beach Twistesee
The Twistesee is a reservoir in northern Hesse, formed by a dam completed in 1979 below the village of Wetterburg, between Bad Arolsen, Volkmarsen and Wolfhagen. It was built for flood control and water regulation and is now a leisure lake with a free public Strandbad that was modernised and enlarged in the mid-2010s, a café and beach bar, pedal-boat hire, a water-ski cable circuit and a DLRG lifeguard station. A loop path of roughly 7 km runs around the shore past small beaches and meadows. Away from the main Strandbad there is a separate nude bathing area. Visitors describe it as a free lawn-and-shore section that is screened from the passing path and lies about five minutes' walk from the car park at the southern end of the lake; one reviewer says it is officially set aside for FKK, but no municipal or tourism-board page confirming that was found. Reviewers consistently describe the area as clean, well kept and calm, with good water quality, and quiet on weekdays.
Getting there
The lake lies just south-east of Bad Arolsen near Wetterburg in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. Drive to the parking area at the southern end of the lake; visitors report the FKK area is about a five-minute walk from there. The main Strandbad is on the western side with café and bar. A 7 km footpath circles the lake, and there is a motorhome parking area at the start of common walking routes. The site can also be reached by public transport to Bad Arolsen and a local connection. Parking fees were not found.
What visitors say
Reviewers on a lake directory describe the nude area as clean, peaceful and well maintained, with a mown lawn and good water quality. Several mention very few people on weekdays and no voyeurs, and value its separation from the busier Strandbad with its bar and water-ski cable. One visitor asked whether it suits families but received no answer. The reviews are undated, so conditions may have changed.

Amenities
Legal context
Nude bathing in a dedicated section is reported by visitors and hiking guides, and one reviewer calls it officially designated, but no municipal or district notice was found to confirm this (2026). Lifeguard cover and Strandbad facilities apply to the main beach; the nude area is a separate section. Motorised boating is restricted on the reservoir.
