About Falkensteiner Strand
Falckensteiner Strand is Kiel's longest bathing beach, a 2.5 to 3 km stretch of sand on the western shore of the outer Kiel Fjord in the Friedrichsort-Falckenstein district, looking across to Laboe and the ships entering and leaving the Baltic. It is a broad, gently shelving sand beach backed by coastal dunes and the Falckenstein campsite, with shallow water popular with families, a lifeguard post, toilets, kiosks and a water-sports centre. A seasonal animal beach for dogs and horses lies between Falckenstein and Schilksee. Nude bathing is reported at the quieter end of the beach near the campsite (Palisadenweg): a camping guide says the 'FKK-Strand Falckenstein' is within walking distance of the site, and a beach directory lists a secluded naturist-friendly section there. The city's tourism pages describe the main beach without mentioning an FKK area, so expect a small, informal nude stretch rather than a signed zone. Kiel's official nudist area is at nearby Schilksee.
Getting there
From Kiel main station take bus 91, 501 or 502 towards Friedrichsort/Falckenstein; the beach is about 25 minutes by bus. By car, follow the B503 north and turn off for Friedrichsort and Falckenstein; there are large car parks behind the beach, described as free. For the reported nude stretch walk along the beach towards the Falckenstein campsite at Palisadenweg 171. The beach itself is level sand; dune paths lead down from the car parks.
Amenities
Legal context
Kiel beaches are free to use. No signed FKK zone at Falckenstein appears on the city or tourism pages (2026); nudity here is customary and informal, while the city tourism site names Schilksee beach as the Kiel beach with a nudist section. Dogs are only allowed on the animal beach between 1 April and 31 October.
Naturism at Falkensteiner Strand sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
