About Krumme Lanke
Krumme Lanke is a long, bent forest lake in Berlin-Zehlendorf, one of the chain of Grunewald lakes left behind by the last ice age and linked underground to the neighbouring Schlachtensee. It covers about 41 hectares and reaches a depth of around 6.6 metres. Berlin's official tourism portal states that people who want to sunbathe without swimwear can do so on a green area signposted as an FKK meadow; it describes this in the same passage as the large bathing lawn at the southern end of Fischerhüttenstraße, though it does not pin the meadow down more precisely, so look for the signs. Elsewhere the shore is wooded and the water can be reached from almost anywhere, and two shallow sandy bays at the northern end are popular with families. A path of a little over two kilometres runs right round the lake and is busy with walkers, joggers and cyclists, so the FKK lawn is not secluded. The lake is a city bathing water monitored by Berlin's health authority (LAGeSo), with no lifeguards or entry fee. In hard winters people skate on the ice, and anglers fish for some 18 species.
Getting there
The lake sits in Zehlendorf at the southwestern edge of the Grunewald. The easiest approach is by U-Bahn line U3 to its terminus, Krumme Lanke, then a walk of roughly ten minutes through the residential streets and into the forest towards Fischerhüttenstraße and the bathing lawn. A shoreline path of just over two kilometres circles the lake on flat, unpaved forest ground. Street parking in the surrounding residential area is limited and fills on summer weekends. There are no dedicated facilities at the FKK meadow, so bring water and shade.
