About Fetzer Seen
The Fetzer Seen are a small group of former gravel pits in the Danube floodplain north of Günzburg in Bavarian Swabia, near the village of Riedhausen. They sit among the many quarry lakes on this stretch of the Danube, next to the Vollmerseen. The Landkreis Günzburg's lake ordinance lists the Fetzer-See Riedhausen (west of the Vollmersee) as open to general bathing, with only dogs in the water and motorised model boats prohibited. The nude spot described by visitors is a lawn between two of the lakes on the left of the access track: a 2001 report on nacktbaden.de describes a mixed crowd with a small group of nude bathers nearly always present and well tolerated, and calls the site ideal for nude bathing and sunbathing. No newer reports were found, so the current level of nude use is uncertain.
Getting there
From Günzburg drive towards Riedhausen; before Riedhausen, after a large barn, turn right towards the Fetzer Seen. The two lakes are on the left; walk between them and then right for about three minutes to the lawn. No parking or facilities were documented, and there is no public transport to the lakes. Paths are unpaved.
Legal context
Bathing is permitted under the Landkreis Günzburg ordinance on general use of quarry lakes (Amtsblatt 2009), which bans dogs in the water and motorised model boats at the Fetzer-See; bathing is banned in any part still being quarried or backfilled. There is no designation for nude use, which visitors described as tolerated (2001).
Naturism at Fetzer Seen sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
