About Mahndorfer See
The Mahndorfer See is a former sand pit of about 22 hectares on the south-eastern edge of Bremen, in the Mahndorf district between the A1 motorway and the Mahndorfer Heerstraße; its eastern shore belongs to Achim in Lower Saxony. It was dug out in the early 1960s while the A1 was being built and is up to about 13 m deep. It is a free public bathing lake with two coarse-sand beach sections, three sunbathing lawns, a footpath through the woods around the shore, a kiosk, toilets and a DLRG lifeguard station built in 1982. A recent regional news ranking of bathing lakes in Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg states that areas for non-swimmers and for naturists are marked out at the lake, but we could not find where the FKK area lies or any city page confirming it, so ask locally or look for signs. It is a busy neighbourhood lake on hot days; motorway noise is audible.
Getting there
From Bremen-Mahndorf station (about 1 km away; regional trains, tram 1 and buses 38, 40/41 and 44) it is roughly a 15-minute walk to the lake. Drivers use the car park at Bollener Kirchweg, reached from the Mahndorfer Heerstraße. Entry and swimming are free. The beaches are reached on level ground; a forest path circles the lake.
What visitors say
Comments describe a convenient, family-friendly city lake with free entry, lifeguards and a kiosk, but recurring complaints about litter, declining water quality, motorway noise and occasional itchy rashes after swimming (suspected swimmer's itch). Nude use is rarely mentioned in visitor comments.

Legal context
One regional news ranking (leinetal24) reports a marked FKK area at the lake, but we found no City of Bremen or operator page confirming it, so the status is treated as informal. Nudity outside a marked area could draw complaints at this busy family lake.
Naturism at Mahndorfer See sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Researched 24 October 2026. No official source confirms naturist status, so treat it as unverified.
