About Dippelsdorfer Badeteich

The Dippelsdorfer Teich is one of the Moritzburg ponds just north of Dresden, used for fish farming, nature conservation and recreation. Its shores are famous in art history: until 1911 the Brücke painters Kirchner, Heckel and Pechstein came here to paint bathers, and the Rotes Haus on the shore is a reconstruction of the red bathhouse they depicted. Nude bathing here is not official, but naturists report it has been tolerated for more than 50 years. Two areas are named: the Friedewald shore on the main pond, a flat, tree-lined bank with benches where, according to a regular, there is no dress code and nudity is normal; and the hill across the railway from the Rotes Haus, used for FKK, while the area right at the Rotes Haus is mostly clothed. The water is shallow with a stony entry and a sandbank in the middle; the far shore is about 375 m across. Visitors are a mix of pensioners, young families, couples and, at weekends, many students. There are no kiosks, toilets or showers at the Friedewald shore; only the campsite Bad Sonnenland on the neighbouring pond has services. Dogs are allowed.

Getting there

The Lößnitzgrundbahn narrow-gauge railway from Radebeul passes the Friedewald shore, with a station about 250 m away; Reichenberg station is the stop for the Rotes Haus side. Parking is free but limited and unshaded, and can be full at weekends; there is parking at the Rotes Haus. From Dresden it is about a 30-minute bike ride with climbs over the Wilder Mann and Boxdorfer Berg. The banks are mostly flat lawn and accessible, but the water entry is stony.

What visitors say

Regulars describe a free, unspoilt pond on Dresden's doorstep, rarely crowded even on summer weekends, with a relaxed attitude where nude and clothed bathers mix and nobody minds. The lawns are maintained on weekdays but can look untidy after weekends. The stony entry, geese and the odd grass snake are mentioned, and one visitor rated the water and bottom as poor. Cycling is recommended because parking is scarce and sunny. Some confusion exists online about where exactly FKK is allowed.

Legal context

There is no official FKK designation; nude bathing has been tolerated here for decades according to naturist reports (2013). Parts of the pond area are protected, and bathing is limited to accessible shore spots. Visitors on seen.de still ask whether FKK is formally allowed, and receive mixed answers.

Naturism at Dippelsdorfer Badeteich sits under Germany's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
