About Auesee
The Auesee is a large artificial lake (about 1.6 km²) in the Rhine meadows at Wesel, formed from one of North Rhine-Westphalia's largest gravel workings. Part of the surroundings is nature reserve. The City of Wesel runs an official bathing area ('Auesee/Rettungsinsel', about 500 m of shore) with fine sand, a large lawn, beach volleyball courts and a separate dog area. One travel article says the north-west shore is free for naturists. A seen.de commenter says nude bathing is possible in many places. Neither source is official, and the city's bathing pages we saw do not mention an FKK area. Comments on the lake's atmosphere are mixed.
Getting there
The lake is on the east side of Wesel near the Auestadion. There are two large car parks. Commenters report fees around €10 and a parking-disc limit at one car park. Parking at the stadium and walking about five minutes is a suggested alternative. A cycle and footpath circles the lake.
What visitors say
Visitors praise clear water, fine sand and plenty of space. Some report algae at times. On nude bathing, reports differ: one commenter says it is possible in many places, while a few others describe the more remote areas as uncomfortable, especially for women, mentioning harassment and theft. Others report friendly, relaxed visits.
