About Neustädter See FKK-Strand

The Neustädter See is an 82-hectare former gravel pit in the north of Magdeburg, ringed by the high-rise housing estates of Neustadt and run by the city as the Naherholungszentrum Neustädter See. The supervised bathing shore is about a kilometre long and is split into three sections: a textile beach, a children's beach and a separate FKK beach. On the city's bathing-water map the FKK section lies at the far end of the bathing shore, beyond the children's beach, so nude bathers are set apart from the main family area. Locals describe it as Magdeburg's only approved and supervised nude beach. The beach is a mix of sand and lawn for lying out, and the lake is groundwater-fed, up to 8.4 m deep, with reed and tree belts along most of the rest of the shoreline. A water-ski and wakeboard cable with a grandstand runs on the lake. The site is fenced and ticketed, open daily in summer, with toilets, a kiosk, beach volleyball and a playground shared across the complex. Water quality has been the recurring problem: bacteria closed the lake in 2022, blue-green algae warnings have affected all three beach sections in several summers (most recently 2026), and regulars complained in 2025 about bird droppings and litter on the FKK lawn.

Getting there

The bathing complex is at Bei Hohmanns 47, 39126 Magdeburg, in the Neustädter See district north of the city centre. Trams and buses 8 and 9 stop at Neustädter See or Neustädter Platz, a short walk from the entrance. Entry is through the paid gate of the Naherholungszentrum, then along paved paths to the FKK section at the end of the bathing shore. The city lists the site as wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets. Parking details are not given on the city page; expect street parking in the surrounding housing estate.

What visitors say

Regulars value it as Magdeburg's one proper nude beach, with lifeguards and a fenced, paid site that keeps it orderly. The main complaints are about upkeep: in 2025 a regular publicly criticised bird droppings and litter on the FKK lawn, and the city admitted it struggles to keep up. Recurring blue-green algae warnings and the 2022 closure mean visitors check the city's notices before going. General ratings of the whole bathing complex on review portals are mixed to poor, often citing water quality and service.
