About Speicher Hohenfelden
Stausee Hohenfelden is a reservoir of roughly 42 to 44 hectares in the hills about 20 km south of Erfurt, Thuringia. It is the centre of the 'Erlebnisregion Hohenfelden', a leisure area that also holds the Avenida-Therme spa, a lakeside campsite with bungalows, a climbing forest and a wildlife enclosure. The main bathing area, run as a paid Strandbad (also called the Spiel- und Sonnenpark), lies on the north to north-eastern shore with a broad sand beach, large lawns, an adventure playground, beach volleyball and rowing and pedal-boat hire. Several regional guides state that a separate, fenced-off FKK section forms part of this bathing area; its exact position and size are not published in the sources we could open. Because it sits inside the paid lido, nude bathers share its toilets, changing rooms and snack bar. The bathing area has not had lifeguards since summer 2016, according to one listing, which is also given as the reason the 30 m water slide no longer runs. Recent visitor comments complain about heavy algae growth in summer, a high, slippery bank and a poorly kept water entry in the FKK section.
Getting there
Hohenfelden is about 20 km (25 minutes) south of Erfurt by car via the L1052; the bathing area's address is Erfurter Straße, 99448 Hohenfelden. Parking is at the individual attractions around the lake; one visitor reported a 5 EUR ticket at car park P2 (2019). By bus, a regional guide gives line 155 from Erfurt Hauptbahnhof (about 30 minutes), while another names line 113 from the Erfurt bus station to the Therme; check current timetables. Entry is through a turnstile: adults paid 2-3 EUR depending on source, children under 1 m free. Listed hours vary between 9:00-18:00 and 9:00-20:00.
What visitors say
Comments on lake-guide sites are mostly critical and largely undated. Regular visitors complain about thick algae and plant growth in midsummer, dead fish, litter and duck droppings at the water's edge, and a high, slippery bank; one notes that the water entry in the FKK section is neglected and hard to reach. Others criticise the turnstile, slow snack-bar service and the water slide being out of action for years. The toilets and kiosk get some praise, and families value the playground and boat hire.

Legal context
The FKK section is a separated part of a paid lakeside bathing area, so nudity there is governed by the operator's house rules; outside it the textile rules of the Strandbad apply. We could not open the operator's own site (stausee-hohenfelden.de returned 503 in October 2026), so the designation rests on regional guides. There has been no lifeguard supervision since 2016.
Naturism at Speicher Hohenfelden sits under Germany's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
