About Plötzensee

Plötzensee is a small, spring-fed lake of about 7.6 hectares on the edge of Berlin-Wedding, next to the Volkspark Rehberge. Strandbad Plötzensee on its south-western shore is one of the city's best-loved lidos, with an artificial sand beach of about 300 m, large lawns, a slide into the water and lots of sports and play equipment. Inside the lido is a separate, fenced FKK area, divided into its own lawn and stretch of sand beach, screened from the rest of the bath by a wall. When the lido changed operators in 2020 the nude area was kept, and it remains a fixture of the Berlin FKK scene. Because it is within a staffed, paid bathing site, it has full facilities: lifeguards, toilets, showers, changing rooms, a kiosk and beach chairs. The lake reaches about 7.5 m deep, and the state health office rates water quality as excellent, with a moderate risk of blue-green algae in late summer. The FKK area attracts a mixed local crowd, and visitors describe it as calm and unspectacular. Dogs are not allowed in the lido.

Getting there

Strandbad Plötzensee is at Nordufer 26, 13351 Berlin. Take tram M13 or M50 to Virchow-Klinikum, or bus 106 to Sylter Straße; the nearest S-Bahn stations are Westhafen and Beusselstraße, and U-Bahn Amrumer Straße is about a 15-minute walk. Car parking is limited to surrounding streets; there are around 400 bicycle stands. Entry is paid: in 2026, 10 EUR adults, 6 EUR reduced, with evening, 10-visit and season tickets. The lido has accessible facilities. In 2026 it opened from May; after September it opens only in good weather.

What visitors say

Visitors and Berlin guides describe the FKK area as a popular, well-established part of the lido, set apart from the main beach behind a wide wall. A first-timer's account found it far less dramatic than expected, with the only awkwardness caused by a clothed group wandering in. The lido as a whole is very well rated but busy and considered pricey by Berlin standards. Parking is difficult, so most people come by tram, bus or bike.
