About FKK Strand Cospudener See
The Cospudener See is a flooded former opencast lignite mine on the southern edge of Leipzig, shared with the town of Markkleeberg. It was redeveloped as an Expo 2000 project and is now one of the city's main summer bathing lakes, with a marina and a large sandy north beach. Nude bathing has a long but untidy history here. Around 2001 the north shore had a signed FKK area, west of the main lake access, and it was very busy in good weather. By 2003 the operator had removed the signs. In 2021 the city's environment department said no official nude beach had ever been designated. It also said nudity was tolerated at the dog beach in the north-east corner, on the wooded west shore and on the east shore near Markkleeberg. A petition that year asked for a designated nude section. The city backed it and offered the unleased west shore, south of the Lauerscher Weg, because the leaseholder of the north beach refused. In 2022 the traditional FKK mound on the north beach was physically separated from a new beach-bar operation. Expect mixed nude and clothed use rather than a clearly marked zone.
Getting there
Bus 65, and in summer also bus 79, stops at 'Cospudener See, Nordstrand' on the north shore. A cycle and footpath circles the whole lake, so you can reach the west and east shores from the north beach on foot or by bike. The west shore is wooded and natural, with no facilities. Facilities are concentrated on the north beach and at the Zöbigker harbour on the east side.
What visitors say
Reports describe a relaxed, mixed situation: nude and clothed bathers share the shore, and some people swim nude outside any nominal FKK area. One visitor summed up the attitude as Saxon easygoingness rather than strictness. Older accounts say the north-shore FKK area was crowded on hot days. Missing or broken signs have caused misunderstandings and occasional hostility between nude and clothed visitors. In 2022 locals complained that commercial beach-bar use was squeezing the north beach.

In July 2021 Leipzig's environment department said no official FKK beach had ever been designated at the lake, but nude bathing at the dog beach and on the west and east shores had long been tolerated. The city backed a petition to designate a nude section on the west shore by autumn 2021. We found no confirmation that the designation was carried out. In 2022 a lease operator on the north beach separated off the traditional FKK mound there.
