Alyko is a small headland on the south-west coast of Naxos, about 18 km from Naxos Town between Kastraki and Pyrgaki, with sandy beaches on both sides. The top of the peninsula is covered by the Alyko cedar forest (locals call it Kedrodasos), low, shrubby juniper-cedars growing on sand, and on the cliff stand the concrete ruins of a hotel begun in the 1960s and never finished, now covered in large murals and graffiti by visiting artists. The main Alyko beach is a broad stretch of golden sand on one side of the headland. Armeos is a small cove on the west coast of Syros, just north of the resort of Galissas, below the chapel of Agia Pakou and the scant ruins of ancient Galissos. Megali Petra ('big rock') is a stretch of the long west coast of Lefkada, about 4 km below the village of Kalamitsi and 23 km from Lefkada Town, named after the large boulders that stand on the shore and in the water and divide it into sections. It lies just south of Kavalikefta beach, from which it is reached on foot, and the effort of getting there means it is rarely busy. The shore is white pebbles and coarse sand with deep, very clear blue water that drops off quickly, as along all of this coast. Guides note that naturists are usually found on the southern side of Megali Petra, beyond the big rocks, where the beach is out of sight of the Kavalikefta end. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas or toilets on the nude stretch and no natural shade, so bring everything; Kavalikefta has a restaurant, toilet and sunbed rental. The beach faces west and is known for its sunsets. Like the rest of this exposed west coast, it can get wavy on windy days.

Expect a mixed crowd and choose a spot away from hotel guests if you want to undress. Bring what you need: there are no organised facilities on the beach itself.

Delfini is a long bay on the west coast of Syros, about 2 km north of the fishing village of Kini, and is often called the longest beach on the island. Dikastika is a stretch of jagged rocky shoreline in the Marathon area of north-east Attica, about 45 km from Athens, beyond the end of the long sandy beach of Schinias. Where Schinias is a busy, organised sand beach backed by the pine forest of the Schinias–Marathon National Park, Dikastika is a series of rock platforms and small inlets with very clear water and no facilities. Dyskos (also Diskos or Dytikos) is a long beach on the south coast of Crete, about 75 km south-west of Heraklion, just west of the village of Lentas and separated from it by the headland known as Cape Lion. It runs from the small settlement of Dyskos westwards towards Tsigounas, under the bare slopes of the Asterousia mountains. The shore is fine pebble with tamarisk trees spaced along it for shade, the water is clear and usually calm, and it is good for snorkelling and spearfishing. The eastern end, in front of the settlement, has a few tavernas and rooms and gets the families; the beach becomes emptier as you walk west, and the western part, towards Gerokambos, is particularly popular with nude bathers. The beach is a sea-turtle nesting site, and sunsets over the mountains are a highlight.

Eftalou is a stretch of coast on the north shore of Lesvos, a few kilometres east of Molyvos (Mithymna), best known for its hot springs. Beside the old domed bathhouse, mineral water at around 44-46°C seeps into pools at the edge of a small, very rocky beach, and the shared and private baths can be used before a sea swim. East of the springs the shore continues as a string of pebble beaches: Anargyri, then the larger and less rocky Golden Beach with a taverna, and beyond that a series of smaller coves. Elafonisi, in Crete's far south-west, is famous for its pink-tinged sand and shallow turquoise lagoon, and the main beach is crowded with day-trippers in summer. Nude bathers are a small minority. Past the water-sports area, a rainbow flag marks the start of the gay section, and beyond it the last stretch of sand and the rocks at the end are where people go nude. That nude end has no sunbeds, so bring a towel and your own shade. Expect a mix of nude and clothed bathers, with roughly half in swimsuits on a typical day. The crowd is international and largely gay male, though straight couples and nudists of all kinds use it too. The rocks between Elia's left end and Agrari are a known daytime cruising spot. Elia is calmer than Paradise or Super Paradise but gets very busy in July and August.

To the north the coast turns into a sandbank and dunes running out towards the cape at Fanari, with saltwater lagoons and wetlands behind that are protected for their birdlife. Off this stretch lies the rusting hull of a cargo ship that has sat partly submerged since 1970, a landmark for swimmers and snorkellers. Nude sunbathing is reported in the quieter dunes beyond the end of the access track near the wreck and the sandbank, away from the beach bars; it is an informal local practice with no designated area, and most of Epanomi's visitors are clothed. The steady winds make the area popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, and the dune end has no shade or services.

Erimoupoli, better known as Itanos beach, is a group of three small consecutive bays on the north-east tip of Crete, about 26 km east of Sitia and just north of the famous Vai palm forest, in the Itanos municipal unit of Lasithi. The beaches lie directly beside the ruins of ancient Itanos, whose remains are scattered over the low hills and even run into the sea, so a swim can be combined with a walk around the archaeological site. The asphalt road ends at the middle bay, a sandy beach where cars park almost at the water's edge (in winter a small wetland forms here). North of it is the largest bay, with fine sand, shallow blue-green water and a growing number of visitors as it has become better known. The southern bay, reached by a short path across the ancient settlement, has pale sand, calm water and clusters of Cretan date palms fed by the small Itanos marsh. The sea is usually calm and the setting unspoilt, with no large development. Exotic Beach is the naturist section of the long sandy strand on the south-west coast of Kos that is variously called Polemi, Magic or Exotic Beach. It lies about 32 km south-west of Kos Town and 9 km before Kefalos, below the main island road, facing the open sea towards Nisyros. The beach is wide fine sand backed by a low, vegetated cliff, and the water is clear but often cooler than on the north coast and can carry waves when the wind is up. Falasarna is a 3 km run of beaches on the far west coast of Crete, west of Kissamos in Chania prefecture. The best-known stretch, Pachia Ammos (the Big Beach), is wide pale sand with turquoise water, fully organised with sunbeds and kiosks at its centre. North of the main beach the coast becomes a series of smaller, quieter sandy bays about 800 m long in total, divided by a dune and rocky outcrops, with no facilities. Filaki (Greek Φυλακή) is a small pebble beach on the Sfakia coast of south-west Crete, a few kilometres from Chora Sfakion and below the White Mountains. It lies close to Vritomartis, a naturist hotel run by a local family since 1992, and is effectively that hotel's beach: the hotel describes it as a compulsory nude area, and Greek-language guides say Filaki and the neighbouring Ammoudi coves are used so overwhelmingly by nudists that a clothed bather may be the odd one out. The shoreline is rocky, broken into small coves, and the nude beach occupies the largest bay. The bottom is pebble and stone, the water is clear, deep blue and drops off quickly, which makes it good for snorkelling. Guides describe the sea as usually calm, although one notes the bay is exposed to southerly winds. Unusually for a remote Cretan cove, there are sunbeds and umbrellas and a small canteen or taverna at the far end; one guide also mentions toilets and changing facilities kept up by the hotel. Ammoudi and Agios Charalambos beaches are each about 1 km away if you want to explore further.

Fira is a small, remote cove on the south-west coast of Folegandros in the Cyclades, one bay along from the hamlet and beach of Agali (Angali). It is a short strip of sand mixed with pebbles enclosed by red and ochre cliffs, and the water is very clear and blue. Because it faces away from the prevailing summer meltemi, the cove is usually sheltered from the north wind, which makes it one of the calmer swimming spots on the island on windy days; it is also known for watching the sunset. The Fonias pools are a chain of natural rock basins (vathres) carved by the Fonias river as it drops from Mount Saos to the north coast of Samothraki, a few kilometres east of the spa village of Therma. They are one of the island's best-known natural sights and feature in the Greek national tourism board's material on Samothraki's vathres. A path climbs through a shaded gorge of plane trees to the first large pool, a deep green basin under a waterfall of about 12 m; further pools and higher falls lie upstream but involve scrambling and are best left to experienced hikers or guided groups. Glossa is a small, hidden cove beside the famous horseshoe of Voidokilia in Messinia, on the south-west tip of the Peloponnese a few kilometres north of Pylos. It is reached on foot from the Voidokilia side, near the Mycenaean tomb of Thrasymedes, in a landscape of dunes, lagoon and low hills facing the island of Sfaktiria across Navarino Bay. The cove opens to the sea through a narrow mouth between tall rocks and then widens into a sandy beach, enclosed by cliffs with green maquis behind. It is sheltered from the wind and the water is very clear, with stones on the seabed; on the right-hand side there are soft clay rocks that visitors rub on their skin. There are no sunbeds, kiosks or other services in practice, and the area falls within the protected Gialova lagoon and Voidokilia wetland zone, where development is restricted. Kalamia is a small, quiet beach on the north-west coast of Paros, on the western side of the great bay of Naoussa, about 10 km north-east of Parikia. Because the bay is popular with boats, visitors sometimes complain about the noise and wash from motor yachts anchoring offshore in July and August. It is a low-key alternative to Paros' better-known nude beach, Lageri, on the other side of Naoussa bay. Bring water, food and shade.

Kalamitsi is a small resort village on the south-east coast of Sithonia, the middle peninsula of Chalkidiki, about 156 km from Thessaloniki. Its main bay is a semicircle of three sandy beaches with shallow, very clear water, sunbeds, a beach bar and tavernas, and is busy with families and campers in July and August. The nude beach is separate: a small, isolated bay to the north of the main beach (to the left as you face the sea), reached along the rocky shoreline. Travel writers describe it as the most isolated bay at Kalamitsi and an unofficial nudist beach. Campsite listings call it a rocky, lonely bay with a nudist beach you are allowed to visit. Nude bathing happens at the far right-hand end as you face the sea, reached along a short unpaved road beyond the main stretch. Visitors describe a noticeable number of nude sunbathers there, while the central part stays clothed. Because the beach is long and rarely packed, even in June and July, it is easy to find space well away from other people. The water is clear and warm early in the season. Nafplio-area guides point out that Greece has no formal nudist designation, so the nude end is simply an informal custom; you may still find a clothed family settling near you. Kantia is popular with younger locals and is noticeably calmer than the resort beach at Tolo. Expect sun and a mix of sand and small stones rather than fine sand all the way along.

It faces west towards Delos, and it is regarded as one of the best sunset spots near Mykonos Town, so it fills a little in the late afternoon. Bring everything you need: shade, water and food. The nearest meals and drinks are at Agios Ioannis next door. Some visitors report litter on busy days, and arriving early gives the best chance of a clean, quiet spot.

The nude spot at KAPE is the small cove immediately next to KAPE beach, on the Attica coast road between Charakas and Legrena, roughly 55 km from central Athens and about 10 km before Sounio. The main beach takes its name from the Greek acronym of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources, whose land you cross to get there. Karavi is a small, undeveloped beach on Serifos, just beyond Livadakia, south of the port village of Livadi. Apart from a few holiday homes behind it there is nothing here: no tavernas, no sunbeds and very little shade. That is why it has long been a favourite of nude bathers who want something close to town. It is usually quiet, and nude swimming is the norm rather than the exception, though no one has to undress. Bring an umbrella and water.

Karoumes is a remote cove on the east coast of Crete, about 29 km south-east of Sitia and north of Zakros bay, where the Chochlakies gorge meets the sea. With no road to the shore and no services, it attracts walkers, snorkellers and people looking for seclusion, and guides describe it as a long-standing spot for nude bathing and unofficial camping. The beach is made of small, fine pebbles mixed with some sand, enclosed by limestone headlands, and faces east onto usually calm, clear water of moderate depth that is good for snorkelling. A few tamarisks and rocks at the north end give some shade. Two tiny coves, each only a few metres wide, lie a few hundred metres to the south. The approach through the Chochlakies gorge, about 3.5 km long and part of the E4 long-distance path, has high cliffs and seasonal pools in spring but is dry in summer. The gorge becomes impassable after heavy rain. Crowds stay light because of the walk.

Katergo is a wild bay on the south-east coast of Folegandros, below cliffs in an uninhabited stretch facing the rocky islet of Pelagia, which locals sometimes call Kleftiko. There is no road down and nothing on the beach except coarse sand, pebbles and very clear, cool water, with a large rock standing in the middle of the bay. The taxi boat from Karavostasis lands people at the right-hand end, which gets the busiest. Nude bathing is not unusual, and the left-hand side, further from the boat landing, is the more scattered, quieter and nudist-friendly part. There is little to no shade, and because the beach faces east, the cliffs put it in shadow well before evening. Strong currents run between the beach and the islet, so swimming across is not recommended, and northerly winds can whip up big waves. People also swim and jump from the cliffs. Bring all your water, food and an umbrella, and take your rubbish back with you. Note that nudism is explicitly forbidden at Agali on the same island, so the custom is beach-specific.

Katsouni is a small, quiet beach on the south coast of Anafi, just east of the port at Agios Nikolaos and next to the larger Klisidi beach. Tamarisk trees along the back of the beach give some shade. Nude bathing is common here; those who want more privacy settle among the rocks at either end of the beach, while the middle is mixed. A second small cove, Flamourou, lies immediately to the left and can be reached by swimming round or by a path. There is nothing to buy on the beach, so bring water, snacks and an umbrella; the nearest taverna is at the start of the path at Klisidi. Kedrodasos is a series of sandy coves about 1 km east of the famous Elafonissi lagoon in the far south-west of Crete, roughly 76 km from Chania. Its name means 'cedar forest', though the old, slow-growing trees on the dunes are junipers, protected under the Natura 2000 network like Elafonissi itself. Unlike its busy neighbour it has no beach bars, sunbeds or toilets, and that, along with the shade, the quiet and shelter from the wind, has long made it a favourite of nude bathers and unofficial campers. Cretan Beaches lists it among the island's naturist beaches. There is no marked nude section; the further you walk over the sand and rocks from the path, the more secluded the coves get. The main beach has white sand and clear turquoise water, while parts of the seabed are rocky, so water shoes help. The juniper trees and large rocks give genuine natural shade. Visitors are asked to stay off the fragile dunes and trees and to carry out all rubbish, which has become a problem.

Kedros is the closest of Donousa's remote beaches to the port village of Stavros, a crescent of golden sand in a sheltered bay on the island's south coast with clear turquoise water. Despite being so close to the port, it is the island's main nude beach. Guides say the large majority of people on the sand are nude, though swimwear is fine too. A few metres offshore lie the remains of a German ship sunk in the Second World War, which can be seen by snorkelling. A small beach bar and taverna by the beach serves drinks, snacks and meals, but there are no sunbeds. Kedros was long associated with free camping; recent guides note that the island has been trying to rebrand and that this may not continue. Because it is the easiest remote beach to reach, it is one of the most frequented on Donousa and can feel crowded in July and August. May, June, September and October are calmer.

Kineta (often spelled Kinetta) is a seaside settlement on the Saronic Gulf in West Attica, between Megara and the Isthmus of Corinth, about 47 km west of central Athens. Its coastline is a run of pebble and sand beaches below the old Athens-Corinth road, in the area locals call Kakia Skala. The nude section is not on the central village beach but further east, roughly 1.5 km from the Sun Hotel, where a stretch of about 300 m has long been used by nude bathers from Athens and Corinth. Gay travel guides describe it as a mostly gay and nude beach, and a local guide calls the area LGBTQI friendly. The shore is mixed pebble and sand with clear but sometimes questionable water: chemical tests have at times led the authorities to declare this part of the coast unsuitable for swimming. There are no facilities on the nude stretch, and much of the pine cover on the slopes behind was lost in the 2018 wildfire, so natural shade is scarce. It is a weekday and weekend escape for Athenians rather than a tourist beach.

Kipos is the beach at the very end of Samothraki's southern coast road, on the island's south-east tip, facing the open Aegean. On clear days the islands of Imbros (Gokceada) and the Turkish coast are visible to the east, while the slopes of Mount Fengari rise behind. The beach is a long, straight strip of dark, smooth pebbles, steep-shelving into deep, very clear water; there is no sand. It is one of the most remote beaches on an already quiet island, and goats often outnumber people. Because it is so far from the villages, it has a reputation among travellers as Samothraki's beach for naturism, with nude bathers spreading out along the less-visited ends of the strip; the regional guide allovergreece does not mark it as nudist, so expect a mix. In summer there is a small canteen, a short row of shaded sunbeds for rent, and basic showers, changing cabins and toilets; otherwise the beach is wild, with no natural shade. Sunsets and dolphin sightings are common highlights. Bring everything you need for the day.

Klisidi (Kleisidi) is a tiny, well-hidden sandy cove on the south coast of Rethymno, in the cluster of beaches between Damnoni and Ammoudi, about 4 km east of Plakias. It sits between two small oblong rocks, with a distinctive rock standing in the turquoise water in front, and holds room for only a handful of people. Next door to the east is Ammoudaki (Small Ammoudi), a slightly larger cove of coarse white sand that Cretan Beaches describes as a nudist beach; the two are linked underwater by a hole in the rock, so getting from one to the other directly means diving through. Beach Atlas describes both Klisidi and Ammoudaki as almost exclusively nude, part of the wider Plakias area that is well known for nude bathing (the east end of Plakias beach is the other main spot). Klisidi itself has no services; Ammoudaki has a small canteen renting umbrellas and sunbeds, and the main Ammoudi beach, with tavernas, rooms, a dive centre and tamarisk shade, is a few minutes away. Peak-season days are busy, and the cove is at its best early or late when it may be empty. Snorkelling around the rocks and a sea cave on the Ammoudaki side are highlights.

Kolitsani is a small, sheltered sandy bay on the west coast of Ios, just south of Chora, between the village and the long resort beach of Mylopotas. Enclosed by rocky slopes and reached only on foot, it is the easiest of Ios's nude beaches to get to and the quiet alternative to busy Mylopotas, with views across the sea towards Santorini. The whole beach is used by nude bathers, though not exclusively: on any given day the number of nude visitors varies, and they share the sand with clothed swimmers. The crowd is mixed, couples and single visitors of all ages, rather than the party crowd Ios is known for. The water is calm and clear, and the bay stays sheltered on windy days. There is almost no natural shade, so an umbrella or an early start is advisable, and there is nothing to buy: bring water and snacks. Greeka notes that, like Koumbara, Kolitsani is not an official nude beach, but its use by nude bathers is well known to tourists and locals.

Current status: Kolymbithres is no longer described as a nude beach. The sources say informal nudity is now found mainly in the rocky coves further away, and that most naturists on Paros go to Lageri. Kolymbithres is a granite beach on Paros with giant boulders worn smooth by the sea, forming small coves that give some privacy. A guide says nude people once proliferated among the rocks, and that some privacy remains there, though not much in high season. Nude swimming is also reported just beyond the beach, around Monasteri. The main beach now has families, sunbeds and tavernas, and the sources describe it as busy. Nothing I found names a council, owner or law that changed the situation at Kolymbithres, and no date is given for when nudity faded. Nude use is informal rather than sanctioned, and the sources do not say whether the beach has ever been officially recognised as naturist.

Kommos is one of the longest beaches on Crete's south coast, a sweep of sand on the Bay of Messara that runs from the village of Kalamaki south almost to Matala, about 65-70 km from Heraklion. It faces the open Libyan Sea, with the two Paximadia islets offshore and Psiloritis visible inland. The southern end sits beside the excavated Minoan harbour town of Kommos, and because the archaeological service restricts building, the beach is almost undeveloped: just a taverna and a few umbrellas at the south end. Nude bathing happens on the northern stretch, known locally as Potamos, which is close to Kalamaki and backed by tamarisks that reach almost to the water; guides describe it as used mostly by naturists, while clothed visitors stay near the site. The sand is long and soft, with some flat rock slabs at the waterline. Loggerhead turtles nest here, and nests are fenced off in summer. The beach is fully exposed to the meltemi, so waves can be big and dangerous on windy afternoons, but the length means it rarely feels crowded.

Kriaritsi is a beach on the southern tip of Sithonia in Halkidiki, below the village of Sykia, looking east across the gulf to Mount Athos. Around 800 m of coarse sand is split by rocks into a series of small bays, with clear water that shades from turquoise to deep blue and rocky islets offshore that are good for snorkelling. The seabed drops gradually, so it suits swimmers more than small children. The central bay is the organised part, with two beach bars, a restaurant and showers; sunbeds and umbrellas come with a drink but cover only a small area, and a campsite sits in the hinterland behind one section. Nude bathing happens on a separate, smaller cove next to the central bay; reviewers place the clothing-optional area at the northern end of the beach, away from the bars. Because it lies at the end of a confusing network of minor roads, Kriaritsi stays relatively quiet even in high summer, and the regional tourism site calls it one of the most beautiful beaches in Halkidiki.

Krios is a beach on the east side of Cape Krios in Selino, south-west Crete, about 10 km west of Paleochora at the end of the paved coastal road. Roughly 1 km of coarse sand and fine pebble is divided into three consecutive bays. The first, eastern bay is rocky, exposed to south winds and little used. The central bay is the busy one, with a parking area, a small canteen and a row of umbrellas and sunbeds. The third, western cove, two minutes' walk further on, is tucked behind a large rock and hidden from view, and it is this cove that nude bathers mostly use; Cretan Beaches lists Krios among its nudism-friendly beaches. The water is deep blue and usually calm, and in the rocks around the bays there are small hollows that give free shade. The E4 long-distance footpath between Paleochora and Elafonisi passes right by, so walkers often stop for a swim, and the beach makes a good base for the coastal hike west. Despite the canteen, it remains a quiet beach compared with Paleochora's town beaches.

Kritama is a string of small, secluded sandy coves at the eastern end of the Orthi Ammos and Frangokastello coastline in Sfakia, on the south coast of Chania, within the lands of Skaloti village and about 80 km south of Chania town. It lies about 1 km east of Orthi Ammos, the dune beach below the Venetian castle of Frangokastello, whose eastern end has traditionally been used by nude bathers; Cretan Beaches notes that their numbers have fallen in recent years, and includes Kritama in its list of beaches for naturism. Kritama is backed by tall, layered and coloured cliffs, and the sand runs into a shallow, warm sea with a sandy bottom free of stones. Freshwater springs seep from the cliffs, one on the small western cove giving drinkable water, and pockets of natural clay at the cliff base are used by visitors for mud baths. Because it can only be reached by boat or by wading round rocky points from Orthi Ammos, it is rarely crowded, which is what makes it suitable for nude bathing. There are no facilities and no built shade.

Lagada (Lagkada) is a long, secluded beach in the bay of Makrigialos on the south-east coast of Crete, immediately east of Diaskari beach and a few kilometres west of the resort of Makrigialos, near the settlements of Analipsi and Lagada. The shore is soft sand mixed with small pebbles, and the clear water has patches of smooth rock on the bottom that can be slippery. A line of tamarisk trees behind the beach gives shade and privacy, and for that reason it is a favourite spot for free campers. Destination Crete notes that clothing is optional along many parts of the beach, so nude bathers are a normal sight; the eastern part of neighbouring Diaskari is also used by nude bathers. Unlike Diaskari, Lagada has no sunbeds, bars or other services, and it is exposed to the wind, which can bring waves. It is a good choice for those who want space and quiet away from the organised beaches of the Makrigialos and Analipsi resort strip, and stays relatively uncrowded even in summer.

Lageri (Laggeri) is the best-known nude beach on Paros, at the north-eastern end of Naoussa bay, about 4 km from Naoussa between the town and Santa Maria beach. The name covers two small bays of fine, pale golden sand backed by large dunes and dense, low scrub, cedars and tamarisks; locals also use it for neighbouring Stefano, a long sand spit ending in a rocky islet. Lageri is entirely unorganised: no bar, canteen, sunbeds or umbrellas. Nude bathing is the norm across most of the beach, though not exclusive, and guides note it is not the best choice for families with children. The water is calm and clear,. Natural shade is limited to a few trees near the dunes, and the midday sun on the sand is fierce, so many visitors come in the late afternoon. The small white chapel of Zoodochos Pigi stands at the start of the path from the parking area. It is quieter than the busy organised beaches of Naoussa, though growing in popularity, and boats from Naoussa harbour also drop visitors here.

Lavrakas is one of the remote beaches near the northern tip of Gavdos, the small island south of Crete that is Europe's southernmost inhabited point. It lies about 1.3 km west of Agios Ioannis (Agiannis), the island's famous free-camping and nude beach, and about 0.6 km west of Pyrgos beach, with the small stony cove of Stavrolimni in between. The beach is soft golden sand broken by patches of rock, backed by trees that give some shade, and faces a shallow, often wavy sea. It is entirely unorganised, with no services of any kind, and is a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles, so nests in the sand should be left undisturbed. Because it can only be reached on foot, it is one of the quietest beaches on the island. Cretan Beaches lists it as nudism-friendly, and Explore Crete notes that Gavdos has beaches for naturism, with nearby Agios Ioannis the best known. Visitors to the north-west coast often walk between Agiannis, Pyrgos and Lavrakas in a day.

Lethra is a long, narrow pebble beach on the east coast of Tilos, a small Dodecanese island between Kos and Rhodes, just north of the main village and port of Livadia and reached only on foot or by boat. The beach is mostly white pebbles with patches of sand and gravel, in a wild, empty bay with clear water. There are no facilities at all and almost no shade: a single tree, which early arrivals claim, and some caves at the far right-hand end. Tilos has no official nude beach, but Lethra is the closest thing to one; the regional guide allovergreece says it is loved by locals and naturists alike, and walkers' guides note that nude bathing is common here, though many visitors still wear swimsuits. The walk is a highlight in itself, along a hillside path with views over Livadia bay and past Red Beach, and the beach is one of the island's quietest. Eristos, on the other side of the island, is the other beach on Tilos where nude bathing is common.

Levrossos is a long sandy beach on the north-east side of Aegiali bay on Amorgos, just west of the Aegiali port village, below the hill village of Tholaria. It is one of a chain of beaches along this shore: Aegiali's main town beach, then Levrossos, then the smaller pebbly Psili Ammos, and finally the rocky cove of Hohlakas, linked by a coastal footpath. Greeka's Amorgos nudism page names Levrossos and neighbouring Psili Ammos as places where nude bathing is practised unofficially, and its beach page notes that Levrossos was a nudist beach for years but now also draws families and couples; in practice nude bathers tend to keep to the ends of the beach and to Psili Ammos beyond it. The sand is fine and the water clear, shallow for the first few metres and then deepening quickly. Tamarisks behind the beach give real shade, which is unusual for the Cyclades. A taverna and a small apartment complex sit just behind the sand, and it is noticeably quieter than Aegiali's town beach.

Liginou (Lingino), also called Didimes ('twins'), is a pair of almost identical small pebble coves side by side on the north-east coast of Patmos, about 12 km north-east of Chora and 3.5 km from the village of Kambos, near Vagia beach. The coves have clear water and a few tamarisk trees along the shore giving some shade. The beach is unorganised, with no sunbeds or umbrellas, though there are a few canteens in the wider area. Because it is remote and needs a walk from the road, it has long been one of the two Patmos beaches where nude bathing happens: Matt Barrett's Greece Travel guide names Psili Ammos and Liginou as the island's nude spots, and Beach Atlas describes Didimes as popular with naturists. Nudism is not entirely accepted on Patmos, which is a pilgrimage island centred on the Monastery of St John and the Cave of the Apocalypse, so discretion matters more here than on many Greek islands. Expect a quiet, mixed crowd of nude and clothed bathers.

Ligres is a long, wild beach on the south coast of Rethymno, about 51 km south of Rethymno town and 7 km below the village of Kerames, at the foot of Mount Siderotas. It forms the northern section of the great Akoumiani Gialia beachfront that runs south from Cape Melissa towards Triopetra. The shore is coarse sand and fine pebbles, the sea is deep, clear and often wavy, and a large reddish rock stands in the middle of the beach. At the western end a small waterfall runs year-round straight into the sea, and a couple of tavernas with rooms sit on the west side; otherwise the beach is unorganised. Nude bathing is possible at many points along the wide, uncrowded beach, and Cretan Beaches and Explore Crete both include Ligres in their naturist lists. The most secluded nude spot is Katsouni, a long sandy cove ringed by rocks, reached by walking west from the waterfall towards Agia Fotini; it is often almost empty, especially early and late in the season. Rock overhangs give the only natural shade, and walking south along the shore past striking rock formations leads to the Xiromilia area and Triopetra.

Limanakia ('little harbours') is a string of rocky coves cut into the limestone cliffs between Vouliagmeni and Varkiza on the Athens Riviera, about 20 km from central Athens and right below the coastal road. There is no sand: you lie on flat white rock ledges and climb into deep, very clear water, which is why the coves are popular with snorkellers and cliff jumpers as well as sunbathers. The coves are numbered by the bus stops above them. Limanakia A draws a young crowd and has a small canteen; Limanakia B, and the coves beyond it, are the long-standing nude area of the Athens coast and a well-known gay meeting place, as Lifo and Athens beach guides describe. Nude and clothed bathers share the rocks, with nudity more common the further you scramble from the paths. Shade is almost nonexistent and the rocks get very hot by midday. Sea urchins are common, so water shoes help. It is one of the few places near Athens where nude bathing is an established habit rather than an occasional one.

Limni Beach, also called Apolakkia Beach, is a long, wide strip of sand on Apolakkia Bay on the wild south-west coast of Rhodes, just below the inland village of Apolakkia. It is one of the most remote beaches on the island, far from the resort strips of the east coast, and the bay is part of a Natura 2000 site where sea turtles nest. The sand shelves gently into the water, but like everywhere on the west coast the sea can be rough when the wind is up; it is somewhat more sheltered than the beaches further north, though big waves still arrive with southerly winds. Because the beach is so long (figures range from about 2.5 to 6 km), it is easy to find an empty spot, and guides note it is popular with naturists, who spread out away from the car park. Facilities are minimal: a shower and toilet block and, in July and August only, some sunbeds and umbrellas near the parking; food is not sold on the sand, though a barbecue canteen sometimes operates. Bring water and shade.

Little Banana (Mikri Banana) is a small sandy cove on the south-west tip of Skiathos, on the far side of the headland from Koukounaries. It sits just north of the larger Banana beach (Megali Banana, also called Krassa), and a big rock outcrop divides the two. Little Banana is the island's best-known nude beach and among the most famous in Greece: nude bathing is the norm here, while Big Banana next door is the busier, music-and-watersports beach where most people wear swimsuits. The cove is slightly shorter than Big Banana, with fine golden sand, clear turquoise water that shelves gently, and pine-covered slopes behind. There is very little natural shade on the sand itself, so most people rent a sunbed and umbrella from the beach bar that runs the cove, which also sells drinks and snacks. The crowd is mixed: couples, gay and straight visitors, and long-time regulars from across Europe. In July and August the small cove fills up by late morning; early in the season or late in the day it is much calmer. The beach faces west and is a good place to watch the sunset.

Livadaki is a small, remote bay on Folegandros, reached either by beach boat or by a donkey path from the Ano Meria plateau, with no road access. It is a sheltered inlet between high cliffs, so the water stays calm even when the meltemi blows elsewhere, and the sea is clear enough for good snorkelling. The beach itself is a mix of sand and pebbles, with slippery rocks at the water's edge; a small cave at the far end and a rocky islet within easy swimming distance add interest, and visitors often build stone cairns on the beach. There are no facilities and almost no shade apart from the cliff in the morning. Nude bathing is part of the beach's character: Kalispera describes it as a small, solitary nudist beach, while AllOverGreece says it is only partly nude and many people keep swimsuits on. Arriving by boat brings in more people in high summer; walkers who come early have it quieter. The lighthouse at the island's tip is visible on the way down.

Malta (Maltas) is a small, remote cove on the north side of Sikinos, a quiet island between Ios and Folegandros, about 8 km east of Chora. It is a pebble beach enclosed by rocks and slopes of wild thyme, with emerald-green water and nothing built on it: no taverna, no sunbeds and no shade. Because reaching it takes either a boat or a demanding walk, it is usually empty or nearly so, and Greeka lists it as the island's only nudism-friendly beach. Nude bathing here is informal; there is no marked area, so the whole cove is used by whoever gets there. Being on the north coast, it is exposed to the meltemi, and the sea can be rough on windy summer days. Bring water, food and shade.

Mandomata is the naturist beach of Faliraki on the east coast of Rhodes, about 15 km south of Rhodes town. It sits in a sheltered rocky bay at the southern end of the Faliraki resort strip, between Kathara beach and Anthony Quinn Bay, well away from the busy main beach and nightlife. The cliffs that frame it attracted nudists from the early days of tourism on the island; after complaints from locals in the 1960s and 70s, the state stepped in and the beach was recognised as a nudist beach under strict rules, and it is widely described as the only officially recognised naturist beach on Rhodes. It is a small, organised sandy beach with clear water, sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, a taverna, toilets, showers and changing rooms. Nudity is the norm and photography is not allowed. It is busiest in July and August.

Mandraki, also called Xerxes after a local tradition that the Persian king's fleet anchored here, is a sandy cove on the north-west coast of Skiathos, set below pine-covered hills a short way north of Koukounaries. The beach is golden sand with clear light-blue water, and part of it has umbrellas and sunbeds run by a small taverna, which also has toilets. The rest is left natural. The far end of the beach is the nude section: travel guides describe it as a nudist area, and visitors report a small sheltered stretch there used by nudists without trouble. That end also has a clay rock ledge. Mandraki faces north, so the sea is choppy when the wind blows from the north. Because there is no road to the sand, it stays much quieter than the south-coast beaches. Two neighbouring beaches reached by the same paths, Elias (Ghournes) and Agistros, also have parts where nude bathing is accepted.

Maragas is a long sandy beach on the west coast of Naxos, about 7 km south of Naxos town, between the resort of Agia Anna to the north and the even longer Plaka beach, which begins where Maragas ends. The sand is fine and golden, the water shallow for the first metres and then gently deeper, which makes it popular with families; rocks at the edges are good for snorkelling, and the beach is known for the small 'eye of Santa Lucia' shells found on it. Behind it is one of the biggest campsites on the island, plus rooms and tavernas, so the organised parts with umbrellas and sunbeds get busy in July and August. Greeka notes that nudity is accepted in some spots, away from the sunbeds; the stronger nude tradition is on neighbouring Plaka, where nude bathing has been common since the 1970s. Shade comes only from a few trees and rented umbrellas.

Marikes is a small rocky cove just south of Rafina, the ferry port on the east coast of Attica, about 30 km from central Athens. It lies behind the headland at the right-hand (southern) end of Rafina's main sandy beach and is reached by a short climb and path, which keeps it out of sight of the town beach. Greek media guides to nude swimming around Athens (Parapolitika 2014, Lifo 2022) list it as one of the few places in Attica where people swim nude. There is no sand to speak of: you sit on rock ledges and pebbles, so it is awkward for lying down, but the water is clear and deep. There are no facilities, no shade and no lifeguard. The coastal dunes and shore at Marikes are a protected ecosystem, and a campaign to keep the area free of beach-bar concessions has run for years.

Megali Ammos ('big sand', despite being pebbly) is a remote beach on the west coast of Alonissos, about 6.5 to 7 km north of the port of Patitiri, below the little chapel of Agioi Anargyroi. Olive and pine trees run down a valley to the shore, so there is natural shade at the back of the beach. The beach is small pebbles with very clear water, and it is good for snorkelling, with plenty of fish around the rocks. Apart from two or three holiday homes there is almost nothing here: no taverna, and at most a few umbrellas and sunbeds that Greeka says can sometimes be rented. Because the beach is hard to reach on unpaved roads, it is usually nearly empty, and the kalispera.se guide describes it as suitable for nudists. Nude bathing is informal; there is no marked area. Smaller coves nearby give even more privacy. Bring food, water and snorkelling gear.

Mersini is a small, undeveloped beach on the remote northeast coast of Mykonos, roughly 13 km from Mykonos Town and about 900 m along the coast from Fokos beach. Current status: Paradise Beach is no longer described as a naturist beach. It is now a party beach on Mykonos, and the sources disagree on how much nudity remains. Over the following decades it became the island's best-known beach and a base for tourism, with a loud afternoon scene, beach clubs and watersports. Paradise Club, Cavo Paradiso and the Tropicana Club host DJs and nightlife on the sand. Sources differ on the crowd: some describe it as mainly straight now, while others say it was once a gay beach. Super Paradise, a short walk east, is the spot most associated with the LGBT community. A visitor account warned of topless sunbathers and some fully nude bathers, but tourism sites describe nudity as tolerated rather than required and not universal. The sources I found do not name a council, owner or law behind any change, and no date for the shift to party-beach use is given.

Paradise Beach is a sandy bay on the south-east coast of Thasos below pine-covered hills, near the villages of Kinyra and Loutra. It has beach bars and sunbeds in the main part, while naturist guides record nude bathing at the quieter, rocky far end of the bay. The water is clear and shallow near the shore. Reach it by a short steep road from the main coastal road, with parking at the top.

Paraga is a beach on Mykonos, on the south coast of the island, where nudity is common but not universal. The sand strand is split into two parts. Plaka is one of the longest beaches on Naxos: several kilometres of fine golden sand backed by low dunes on the west coast south of Agios Prokopios. Cretan Beaches, the island's main beach guide, points out that while most Cretan naturist beaches are on the remote south coast, Hersonissos is an exception. Directly beside the small sandy beach at the base of Cape Sarandaris is a stony naturist cove, enclosed by high whitish limestone cliffs that hide it from the road and the hotels. Here, patches of sand alternate with rocks, and the water is clear and good for swimming. Because the cape shelters this stretch from the prevailing north-west winds, the sea is often calmer than elsewhere along the coast. Next to the nude cove is Sarandari beach, a shallow, sandy, family beach with sunbeds and a canteen, followed by the busier organized beaches of Giofyri and Creta Maris. The naturist cove itself has no services. The area is heavily developed with hotels, bars and cafés, and the town of Hersonissos is within walking distance, so expect a mainly resort crowd nearby, with nude bathers keeping to the cove.

Sarakiniko is a cove and rock headland on Gavdos, the island south of Crete that forms part of Gavdos Municipality in the Region of Crete. For years it was one of the island's naturist spots, with nude bathing among the rock formations at the water's edge. The status changed in July 2023, when a sign reading that nudity was prohibited appeared on the beach. Naturists took it down, and the municipality, under mayor Lilian Stefanaki, had it put back up and said it would keep doing so, describing it as one of at least ten beaches set aside for everyone. Greek and English news reports from August 2023 covered the dispute. One reported that nudity was still allowed on other beaches of the island, and local people worried the ban could spread. Some locals said the row had cut visitor numbers, though that is an unmeasured local claim. Glyka Nera (Sweet Water) is a sandy beach on Crete's south coast in the Sfakia area, near Loutro. Tertsa is a small farming village on the south coast of Crete in the Viannos area, about 90 km south-east of Heraklion between Myrtos and Psari Forada. The beach in front of the village is long, of coarse grey sand and fine pebbles, and is used mainly by local families; it has two or three tavernas, a few rooms and showers, and has seen little tourist development. The nude-friendly part is not the village beach but Psaroharako, the more remote stretch that begins beyond the rock of the same name at the western end. Regional guides describe it as nicer and more secluded than the village front, with a taverna not far away, and say it is quiet enough for people who want to swim and sunbathe nude. The shoreline continues west towards Vourdolakos bay at Chlia, an unorganised beach with no facilities that is also said to be preferred by nudists and good for snorkelling. Expect a mixed local and visitor crowd, little or no shade beyond the tamarisks at the village end, and clear, quickly deepening water typical of the Libyan Sea coast.

Tigaki is a long, shallow sandy beach on the north coast of Kos, about 10 km west of Kos town, running past the resort village of Tigaki and on east towards Marmari. In front of the village it is a busy, organised family beach with sunbeds, bars and water sports, popular because the water stays shallow and clear a long way out. Behind the eastern stretch lies the Alykes salt lake, a Natura 2000 wetland that produced salt until 1989 and now draws migrating birds, including flamingos from late autumn to spring. Between the lake and the sea runs a low line of dunes one to two metres high, and it is here, away from the resort sunbeds, that nude sunbathers are reported. Trafoulas, also called Psili Ammos or Dragon Bay, is a remote cove on the south coast of Crete in the Asterousia mountains, about 4 km east of Lentas and roughly 70 km south of Heraklion. It lies at the mouth of a small canyon on Cape Trafoulas, enclosed by tall vertical cliffs, which is what keeps it so private. The beach is fairly long for this coast, of small greyish gravel and fine pebbles with some smooth boulders in the middle, and the white rocks around it have been eroded into sculpted shapes. The water drops off quickly and is deep and very clear, good for snorkelling. On the east side there are four caves, two up in the cliff and two at beach level, which are the only shade at midday; a couple of long-stay campers sometimes occupy one of the large caves. Cretan Beaches, the main regional beach guide, notes that the cove is known to naturists, who feel well hidden from view here, and with no road down and no facilities the few people who make the walk are mostly nude bathers and hikers.

Triopetra is on the south coast of Crete in Rethymno prefecture, about 52 km south of Rethymno town below the village of Akoumia, named after the three rocks that stand in the sea off the small headland between its two beaches. West of the headland is Small Triopetra, a sheltered sand-and-rock bay with a few tavernas renting umbrellas and loungers and the tiny harbour of Stomio. East of it the long beach, often called Akoumiani Gialia, runs towards the Akoumianos stream and the dunes of Agios Pavlos at Cape Melissa: an open sweep of sand and fine gravel with no sunbeds along most of its length. Nude bathing happens away from the tavernas, at the ends of the main beach and along the quieter undeveloped stretches; Cretan Beaches lists Akoumiani Gialia among Crete's naturist-friendly beaches, and other guides note that the bays are not official nude beaches but that many visitors use the space to go nude. The water is clean and deepens quickly, and the coast catches the wind, so it can be wavy. Outside the taverna bay the beach is rarely crowded, even in August.

Tris Klisies (Three Churches) is a small, sheltered sandy cove on the south coast of Ios in the Cyclades, about 18 km from Chora along the road to Manganari. Because it is so well protected from the wind it served as the island's old harbour, and remains of the ancient port can still be seen on the seabed, which makes it a rewarding place to snorkel along the rocky sides. The beach itself is golden sand with very clear blue water and only a few trees for shade; there are no sunbeds, umbrellas or bars. It is reached only on foot from a dirt road, so it stays quiet even in August, when nearby Manganari is busy. Allovergreece lists it among Ios's nudist beaches as ideal for nudists and anyone after isolation, and a Spanish naturist guide also describes nude bathing as accepted and common among the people who come here. There is no designated section: the cove is small enough that the few visitors share it. Further south along the coast is Kalo Avlaki, a rocky cove reachable only by boat.

Tripiti is the beach at the southern tip of Gavdos, the small island south of Crete, and so the southernmost beach in Europe. It lies at a spot called Aliki, about 7 km south of the harbour at Karave, at the mouth of a dry stream bed with a small salt pan behind it that dries out in summer. The shore is sand and pebbles at its eastern part, turning to large stones and rocks towards the cape. Its trademark is the three rock arches called Kamarelles at the eastern corner, which give the place its name ('holes'), with a giant wooden chair set on the rocks above them. The water is deep blue and usually calm, good for snorkelling. There are no facilities at all; some shade comes from trees and rocks. Gavdos has a long tradition of free camping and nude bathing on its remote beaches, and Cretan Beaches tags Tripiti as nudism-friendly. Because it takes a long walk to get here, visitors are few and mostly hikers and long-stay campers, so nude bathing is normal and unremarkable.

Tsamadou is a pebble beach on the north coast of Samos, about 2 km west of the resort village of Kokkari, set in a small, steep-sided bay backed by pine-covered hills. The bay is fairly sheltered from the waves, and the water is a deep, clear turquoise that drops off quickly from a shore of small and medium white pebbles. It is a partly organised beach with sunbeds, umbrellas, a beach bar and a taverna above the bay. Nude bathing is long established at the eastern end, to the right as you come down to the beach, while the western (left) side is the clothed section; the Samos guide SamosIn advises nudists to head to the eastern end so as not to bother other bathers, and some guides go as far as calling Tsamadou the island's only official nude beach, a claim we could not confirm from any official source. The mix of clothed and nude visitors on one small beach is part of its character: couples, island regulars and holidaymakers from Kokkari share it, and in peak season it fills up by late morning.

Tsambika is a wide bay of fine golden sand on the east coast of Rhodes, about 25 km south of Rhodes town between Kolymbia and Stegna, overlooked by the Tsambika monastery on the rocky headland above. The water is shallow, clear and warm, and most of the beach is organised with rows of sunbeds, umbrellas, bars and water sports, which makes it one of the island's most popular family beaches. Nude sunbathing has long been tolerated at the southern end, to the right as you face the sea, away from the main sunbed rows; several visitor reports describe a small, separate nude area there, at one point with its own sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. It is informal and small, and the reports suggest it has shrunk as the organised section has spread, so expect a handful of naturists rather than a large scene. The views of the monastery and the protected dunes behind the beach are a highlight, and the chapel can be reached by a steep road and a long flight of steps for a panorama over the bay.

Tzanaki (also Tzanakia) is a set of small pebble coves on Astypalaia in the Dodecanese, just south-west of Livadi, the island's main tourist beach below Chora. There are four consecutive coves formed between large rocks: the two main ones (Big Tzanaki is about 75 m long) are easy to reach, and the two smaller ones can be reached by swimming or scrambling over the rocks. The shore is large, colourful pebbles and the bottom drops steeply into deep, clear water. There is no shade except under the big rocks at certain hours, and no facilities. The coves are sheltered from the strong northerly winds that blow in August, which makes them a good choice when the north-facing beaches are rough. There are views back to the Venetian castle of Chora. Swimwear is fine, but most people here come for nude bathing.

Vatses is a beach on the remote south-west coast of Astypalaia in the Dodecanese, just before Kaminakia, enclosed by steep, bare rocky hills. It is a bay of golden sand mixed with fine pebbles, roughly 170-250 m long, with clear water and a few trees for shade. The right-hand side is partly organised, with a small beach bar renting sunbeds and umbrellas, while the left side is wilder, with larger stones; beyond it, about a 200 m swim away, lies the small pebbly cove of Mikres Vatses. Greeka's island beach guide tags Vatses as nudism-friendly, and a visitor review there mentions nudists on the left side near the pebbles, which is where nude bathers usually settle, away from the bar. Nearby is the Cave of Negros, with stalactites and stalagmites. The bay is exposed to the meltemi, so it can be windy in July and August. Because the access road is rough, it is quiet compared with the beaches near Chora and Livadi; Astypalaia's best-known nude beach remains Tzanaki.

Velanio is a small cove just beyond Stafylos beach on the south-east coast of Skopelos, backed by pine trees that come down almost to the water. The clothed part sits nearest Stafylos. The nude section lies past two large rocks at the far end, and its water is free of the stones that make entry awkward elsewhere. Swimsuits are optional and both groups share the bay without fuss. Because the path down is steep and the beach is small, it never gets very crowded; visitors are mainly couples and naturists staying on the island, plus some arriving by boat from Patitiri. The surrounding sea is part of the National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades, so the water is exceptionally clean.

Vlychada is a long black-sand beach at the southern tip of Santorini, about 11 km from Fira, below the village of the same name and next to a small fishing harbour lined with restaurants. The beach is long and rarely crowded. There is almost no natural shade and the black sand gets extremely hot in summer, so bring an umbrella and footwear if you go to the unorganised section.

The nude spot is a short way south-east at Chamolia, a low peninsula topped by a sandstone hill near the children's summer camps. Nude bathers use the rocky bays on its shore, where flat rock shelves serve as sunbathing platforms and the water is very clear. It is a small area, a few hundred metres of rocky coast rather than a beach, with no sand to speak of, no shade and no services. Guides describe a loyal regular crowd. Swimming off the rocks is awkward when the sea is rough, and part of the approach passes a fenced area with barbed wire.
