About Katergo Beach
Katergo is a wild bay on the south-east coast of Folegandros, below cliffs in an uninhabited stretch facing the rocky islet of Pelagia, which locals sometimes call Kleftiko. There is no road down and nothing on the beach except coarse sand, pebbles and very clear, cool water, with a large rock standing in the middle of the bay. The taxi boat from Karavostasis lands people at the right-hand end, which gets the busiest. Nude bathing is not unusual, and the left-hand side, further from the boat landing, is the more scattered, quieter and nudist-friendly part. There is little to no shade, and because the beach faces east, the cliffs put it in shadow well before evening. Strong currents run between the beach and the islet, so swimming across is not recommended, and northerly winds can whip up big waves. People also swim and jump from the cliffs. Bring all your water, food and an umbrella, and take your rubbish back with you. Note that nudism is explicitly forbidden at Agali on the same island, so the custom is beach-specific.
Getting there
Taxi boat from Karavostasis port: guides report a first departure around 11:15 and about 14 euros return, paid on board in cash (check current times). On foot: drive or walk to the trailhead near Livadi, then follow a flat, dusty and largely shadeless trail for 20-30 minutes before a steep, rough final descent to the beach; allow up to 40 minutes. Wear shoes rather than flip-flops and carry plenty of water. Not suitable for wheelchairs or anyone unsteady on loose ground.
What visitors say
Writers and visitors call Katergo one of the most beautiful and wildest beaches on Folegandros, praising the clear water and the setting below the cliffs. The walk in is described as manageable but hot and exposed, and the last part steep. Boat passengers crowd the right side; walkers who arrive before the boats find the left side quiet, and that is where nude bathers tend to settle. Everyone stresses bringing shade and water, as there is nothing on the beach.

Legal context
Greece has no official nude beaches; nude bathing at Katergo is an informal custom described by travel guides, mainly on the left side of the bay. Folegandros treats beaches differently: nudism is explicitly forbidden at Agali, so do not assume it is accepted everywhere. We found no signage or enforcement reports for Katergo (checked 2026).
Naturism at Katergo Beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
