About Exotic Beach

Exotic Beach is the naturist section of the long sandy strand on the south-west coast of Kos that is variously called Polemi, Magic or Exotic Beach. It lies about 32 km south-west of Kos Town and 9 km before Kefalos, below the main island road, facing the open sea towards Nisyros. The beach is wide fine sand backed by a low, vegetated cliff, and the water is clear but often cooler than on the north coast and can carry waves when the wind is up. The northern Exotic part is the stretch used for nude sunbathing; signs mark where it ends, and beyond that point, on the adjoining Magic Beach, visitors are expected to be dressed, since that side is aimed at families. The strand is long enough that even in high season people can find space. It is semi-organised: sunbeds with small windbreaks and umbrellas are rented on part of it, drinks are served on the sand, and a restaurant on the cliff top above serves Greek food. Litter occasionally washes up, and there are no showers on the nude section. The crowd is a mix of nude and clothed couples, with naturists and non-naturists generally coexisting without issue.

Getting there

Driving from Kos Town or Kardamena towards Kefalos, follow the signs for Magic Beach off the main road, then continue along a rough track to the separate Exotic Beach parking area above the sand; reviewers report plenty of parking space. From the car park a path leads down to the sand; reviewers describe access as easy, though it is not adapted for wheelchairs. Without a car, the KTEL Kos bus towards Kefalos runs along the main road, leaving a walk down the signposted access road.

What visitors say

Reviewers praise the long, uncrowded stretch of sand, the views and the cliff-top restaurant, and say the nude and clothed areas coexist without trouble. Common complaints are the cold water, the lack of showers and toilets on the beach itself, and litter washing up on some days. Visitors recommend bringing food and water, and note that the sunbed windscreens help on windy days.

Legal context

Greece has no general legal framework for naturism and nudity is officially not permitted outside the few designated places; in practice nude bathing is widely tolerated on quiet, unorganised beaches as long as nobody objects. Signs at the beach separate the nudist-friendly Exotic section from the family Magic Beach next to it; these are informal markers rather than an official designation.

Naturism at Exotic Beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Frequently asked questions

Which part of the beach is nude?

The Exotic section, at the end reached from the Exotic Beach car park. Signs mark where it gives way to the family-oriented Magic Beach, where clothing is expected.

Is there parking?

Yes, a free dirt car park above the beach, reached by a rough track signposted from the Magic Beach turn-off.

Are there sunbeds and food?

Sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented, and a restaurant above the beach serves food and drinks, but there are no showers on the nude section.

Is it the same as Polemi or Magic Beach?

It is part of the same continuous strand. Polemi and Magic are often used for the whole beach; Exotic refers to the nudist-friendly end.
