About Mirtiotissa Beach

Myrtiotissa is a small sandy cove on the west coast of Corfu, about 16 km from Corfu Town and just north of Glyfada, below the 15th-century Monastery of Panagia Myrtidiotissa that gives it its name. It has been used by nudists since the hippie era of the 1970s and is the best-known nude beach on the island, though it has never been officially designated. The beach is golden sand hemmed in by high wooded cliffs, with large boulders on the seabed and in the shallows; streams run down the cliffs, and its width changes from year to year as winter seas take and return the sand. There is no separate nude zone: nude and clothed visitors mix across the whole beach. A small canteen and a bar with sunbeds operate in summer. It is busy in high season and stays popular well into October, with a mixed crowd of Greeks, foreign tourists and families.

Getting there

Take the road from Pelekas towards Glyfada and follow signs to the monastery. The final lane is very narrow and steep; drivers are advised to park on the upper road (around 1 km away, near the taverna area) and walk down about 500 m-1 km on a steep concrete/dirt track, roughly 15 minutes down and longer back up. There is no direct bus; Green Buses serve Glyfada and Pelekas. Boats and kayaks also land at the beach. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

What visitors say

Visitors consistently describe a scenic, sheltered cove with clear water, worth the steep walk. Reviews note it can be crowded in July and August and that the beach shrinks in some years. The atmosphere is relaxed with nude and clothed visitors mixing, including families; people recommend arriving early, wearing proper shoes for the descent and bringing water for the climb back.
