About Fira
Fira is a small, remote cove on the south-west coast of Folegandros in the Cyclades, one bay along from the hamlet and beach of Agali (Angali). It is a short strip of sand mixed with pebbles enclosed by red and ochre cliffs, and the water is very clear and blue. Because it faces away from the prevailing summer meltemi, the cove is usually sheltered from the north wind, which makes it one of the calmer swimming spots on the island on windy days; it is also known for watching the sunset. There is no road to Fira, so it sees far fewer people than Agali, and it is completely unorganised with no sunbeds, umbrellas or kiosks. A Folegandros travel guide notes that because so few people make the walk, nude bathing is usually accepted here. There is no defined nude section: on most days the beach is small and quiet enough that the few visitors simply share it. Bring water, food and your own shade; the nearest tavernas are back at Agali. From the cove you can see Agali and its neighbouring beaches across the bay.
Getting there
Drive or take the island bus from Chora to Agali (Angali), where there is roadside parking above the beach. From Agali a footpath continues over the headland to Fira in about 15 minutes; it is rough underfoot and not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. In summer the excursion boats that serve the south-west beaches also call at Fira, avoiding the walk. No vehicles can reach the beach itself.
Legal context
Greece has no general legal framework for naturism and nudity is officially not permitted outside the few designated places; in practice nude bathing is widely tolerated on quiet, unorganised beaches as long as nobody objects. Fira has no signage or designation; nude bathing is accepted informally because the cove is remote and lightly visited.
Naturism at Fira sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
