About Tigaki Beach
Tigaki is a long, shallow sandy beach on the north coast of Kos, about 10 km west of Kos town, running past the resort village of Tigaki and on east towards Marmari. In front of the village it is a busy, organised family beach with sunbeds, bars and water sports, popular because the water stays shallow and clear a long way out. Behind the eastern stretch lies the Alykes salt lake, a Natura 2000 wetland that produced salt until 1989 and now draws migrating birds, including flamingos from late autumn to spring. Between the lake and the sea runs a low line of dunes one to two metres high, and it is here, away from the resort sunbeds, that nude sunbathers are reported. There is no marked nude section: naturists spread out along the quieter dune-backed sand rather than in one spot. The beach is fine sand throughout, with no natural shade along the dunes, and the north coast can be windy in July and August when the meltemi blows. Expect families and windsurfers at the resort end and a thinner, mixed crowd along the dunes.
Getting there
Tigaki is about 15-20 minutes by car or a regular KTEL bus from Kos town; many visitors also cycle along the flat coast. There is free parking in and around the village, and roadside spots along the salt-lake road towards Marmari. From the resort, walk east along the sand past the last sunbeds to reach the dune-backed stretch in front of the salt lake. The ground is flat soft sand with no boardwalk at the dunes, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs beyond the resort front.
Amenities
Legal context
There is no official nude beach on Kos; nudity in the Tigaki dunes is informal tolerance only (2026). The dunes and salt lake are a protected Natura 2000 area, so keep off fenced dune vegetation. Stay clothed on the organised resort section.
Naturism at Tigaki Beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Where is the nude part of Tigaki beach?
There is no marked area. Nude sunbathers are reported in the dunes in front of the salt lake, east of the resort sunbeds towards Marmari.
Is it family friendly?
The resort section is very family friendly; the dune stretch where people go nude is better treated as adults-only.
Can I get there by bus?
Yes. Local buses run from Kos town to Tigaki, and the dune stretch is a walk east along the beach.
Is there shade?
Not along the dunes. Bring an umbrella, or rent a sunbed at the resort end.
