About Kalamia Beach

Kalamia is a small, quiet beach on the north-west coast of Paros, on the western side of the great bay of Naoussa, about 10 km north-east of Parikia. It lies in the area beyond Kolympethres and the Monastiri peninsula, where the coast is a series of coves cut into granite and schist, with little development behind it. The beach is sandy, the water is shallow and very clear, and the setting is open and largely treeless, so shade is scarce. It is not organized: there are no sunbeds, umbrellas, bars or toilets. Greeka describes it as a quiet beach known for its transparent water and for the naturists who visit it often. Beach Atlas notes that it has no official nudist designation, but that nude bathers and people in swimsuits share it without problems. Because the bay is popular with boats, visitors sometimes complain about the noise and wash from motor yachts anchoring offshore in July and August. It is a low-key alternative to Paros' better-known nude beach, Lageri, on the other side of Naoussa bay. Bring water, food and shade.

Getting there

Kalamia is on the western side of Naoussa bay. Drive towards Kolympethres and the Monastiri area, then continue on the smaller roads and tracks towards the coast; the final approach is not straightforward, and you may need to walk a few minutes from where you park. A car, scooter or ATV is the practical option, as public buses serve Naoussa and Kolympethres but not this cove. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

What visitors say

Visitors describe Kalamia as peaceful and uncrowded, with very clear water, and note that naturists and clothed bathers mix easily. The main complaints are the difficult access and the noise from yachts and motorboats anchored in the bay in high season. As there are no facilities, people recommend bringing everything they need. Reports are few, so expect the atmosphere to vary from day to day.

Legal context

Greece has no national register of designated nudist beaches; nudity is formally sanctioned only at licensed naturist establishments, but on remote or traditionally nude beaches it is widely tolerated, and police generally act only if someone complains. Kalamia is not officially designated; nude use is informal.

Naturism at Kalamia Beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
