About Tsambika Beach

Tsambika is a wide bay of fine golden sand on the east coast of Rhodes, about 25 km south of Rhodes town between Kolymbia and Stegna, overlooked by the Tsambika monastery on the rocky headland above. The water is shallow, clear and warm, and most of the beach is organised with rows of sunbeds, umbrellas, bars and water sports, which makes it one of the island's most popular family beaches. Nude sunbathing has long been tolerated at the southern end, to the right as you face the sea, away from the main sunbed rows; several visitor reports describe a small, separate nude area there, at one point with its own sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. It is informal and small, and the reports suggest it has shrunk as the organised section has spread, so expect a handful of naturists rather than a large scene. The views of the monastery and the protected dunes behind the beach are a highlight, and the chapel can be reached by a steep road and a long flight of steps for a panorama over the bay.

Getting there

Tsambika is signposted off the main Rhodes-Lindos road about 25 km south of Rhodes town; a short side road leads down to the beach, where there is a large parking area. Buses between Rhodes town and Lindos stop on the main road at the turn-off, a walk of roughly 1.5 km down to the sand. Walk south (right) along the beach past the last sunbeds to reach the nude section. The beach front is flat sand; wheelchair access is limited to the organised area.

What visitors say

Older visitor reviews (2007-2015) describe the nude end as quiet and friendly, with a few dozen people a day at most, and one 2015 review mentions sunbeds and an umbrella there for a few euros. A 2011 reviewer warned that the beach bars were spreading towards the nude area. Reviewers praise the sand and shallow water but say the main beach gets crowded in summer.

Legal context

Tsambika is not an official nude beach; nude sunbathing at the southern end has been informally tolerated for years, but the main beach is a family area and the monastery above is a religious site (2026). No formal ban or enforcement reports were found, but discretion is advised.

Naturism at Tsambika Beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
