About Nero beach
Nero is the longest and most visited beach on Kato Koufonisi, the uninhabited island facing Ano Koufonisi in the Small Cyclades. It is a long sweep of sand mixed with fine pebbles, both on the shore and the seabed, with clear, tropical-looking water; low cliffs rise behind parts of it, and a small patch of palms and tamarisks grows just back from the waterline. It is completely unorganised, with no sunbeds, kiosk or toilets. Because the Koufonisia water taxis stop here, it gets more people than Kato Koufonisi's other coves, yet Greeka notes that nudism is often practised despite the numbers. There is no marked nude area; nude and clothed bathers share the beach. The pebbles become very hot in summer, so water shoes are useful. On Ano Koufonisi, Italida (Platia Pounta) is the other beach usually named for nudists.
Getting there
Take a water taxi or caique from the harbour at Chora on Ano Koufonisi; boats serving Kato Koufonisi stop at Nero in summer. Alternatively get off at the Venetsanos taverna landing and walk about 3 km (30-40 minutes) on a rough coastal path in full sun. There are no roads, cars or facilities on Kato Koufonisi; bring water, food and shade. The taverna by the landing is the only place to eat.
Legal context
Greece has no formal system of designated nude beaches; nudity is tolerated by custom at secluded beaches and sections. No local rule or enforcement concerning Nero found (2026).
Naturism at Nero beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
