About Vravrona
Vravrona (Brauron) is on the east coast of Attica, about 50 km from central Athens, between Markopoulo and Porto Rafti, best known for its sanctuary of Artemis. The main sandy beach is a shallow family beach and is not used for nude bathing. The nude spot is a short way south-east at Chamolia, a low peninsula topped by a sandstone hill near the children's summer camps. Nude bathers use the rocky bays on its shore, where flat rock shelves serve as sunbathing platforms and the water is very clear. It is a small area, a few hundred metres of rocky coast rather than a beach, with no sand to speak of, no shade and no services. Guides describe a loyal regular crowd. Swimming off the rocks is awkward when the sea is rough, and part of the approach passes a fenced area with barbed wire. The nearby sheltered sandy cove of Mikri Chamolia is a separate, textile beach.
Getting there
Drive from Markopoulo towards Porto Rafti and, before Porto Rafti, turn left towards the Vravrona archaeological site and the Chamolia children's camps. Before the camps, park on the large open plateau by the peninsula with the sandstone hill, then walk about 10-15 minutes along a path to the rocks. Finding it the first time is not easy. Buses run from Athens to Porto Rafti and Markopoulo, but not to the spot itself. The rocky approach is unsuitable for wheelchairs.
What visitors say
Athens guides describe Chamolia as one of the long-standing informal nude spots in Attica, with a dedicated crowd of regulars who use the rock shelves. Directions are the main complaint: first-time visitors need precise instructions, and the alternative route runs past barbed wire. The rocks fill up on summer weekends, and swimming is tricky in any swell. There is no shade or water, so bring both.

Amenities
Legal context
Chamolia is not a designated nude beach. A 2022 Lifo article notes that Greek law (Penal Code article 353 on indecent acts) only clearly allows nudity at recognised naturist sites and that enforcement is discretionary, usually starting with a warning. No local ordinance or recent enforcement at Chamolia was found (2026).
Naturism at Vravrona sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Frequently asked questions
Is the main Vravrona beach a nude beach?
No. Nude bathing happens on the rocky shore of the Chamolia peninsula, a short way towards Porto Rafti, not on the sandy main beach.
How do I find it?
Turn off the Markopoulo-Porto Rafti road towards the archaeological site and the Chamolia camps, park on the plateau before the camps, and walk 10-15 minutes to the rocks.
Are there facilities?
None. There is no shade, food or water at the rocks.
Is it legal?
It is not officially designated; nudity there is informal and tolerated rather than authorised.
