About Boukourima Beach

Boukourima (also written Bukurima) is a small cove on the east coast of Attica in the Keratea area, just along the shore from the busy village beach of Kaki Thalassa, about 50 km from central Athens. Unlike its neighbour, which has tavernas, a summer cinema and lifeguards, Boukourima has no development: it is reached on foot at the end of a dirt track and stays quiet even on summer weekends. The beach is fine pebble rather than the coarse rocks typical of this coast, and the water is clear and clean, with sand further out. Athens guides list it among the handful of Attica spots where swimming nude is generally accepted; one guide notes that naturists tend to gather on the rocks across the bay. It is a casual, local place used mainly by Athenians escaping the city, not a formal naturist beach, and there are no facilities, so bring water, food and shade.

Getting there

Drive from Athens towards Keratea and follow signs for Kaki Thalassa. Just before entering the Kaki Thalassa settlement, turn off onto the road towards the coast (guides give slightly different directions; one names Areos Street) and drive to the end of the asphalt. Park there and continue on foot along the dirt track down to the cove, a short walk on uneven ground. There is no public transport to the beach itself; KTEL buses run along the coast road to Keratea/Lavrio. Not accessible for wheelchairs.

What visitors say

Athens-based guides describe Boukourima as a calm, uncrowded alternative to Kaki Thalassa, with pleasant fine pebbles, clear water and a mixed crowd of clothed and nude bathers. Visitors value the short walk-in that keeps numbers down. There is very little detailed visitor feedback online, and no reports of trouble were found.

Legal context

Greece has no designated nudist beaches outside licensed naturist establishments; nudity elsewhere can be prosecuted under the penal code provision on indecent acts causing public scandal (fine or up to two years), though police usually warn first (LiFO, 2022). Nudity at Boukourima is informally tolerated; cover up if asked.

Naturism at Boukourima Beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
