About Kape Beach (Nude)
The nude spot at KAPE is the small cove immediately next to KAPE beach, on the Attica coast road between Charakas and Legrena, roughly 55 km from central Athens and about 10 km before Sounio. The main beach takes its name from the Greek acronym of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources, whose land you cross to get there. Main KAPE is a pebble-and-fine-gravel beach below cliffs with turquoise water and has become busy on summer weekends; it is mostly used clothed. Nude bathers continue past it to the neighbouring cove, a tiny strip of sand and pebbles only a few tens of metres long, reached over fallen boulders and narrow paths through oregano-covered slopes. Small sea caves in the rocks there are worth exploring when the sea is calm. There are no services on either beach and almost no shade around midday apart from a few rock overhangs on the left side of main KAPE, so an umbrella is essential. A canteen at the top of the path is the last place to buy water. Weekdays are far quieter than weekends.
Getting there
By car, drive the coast road from Glyfada towards Sounio; after Charakas turn right at the large 'property of KAPE' sign and follow the dirt road about 1 km to the parking area and canteen. About 100 steps lead down to KAPE beach (and back up); from there scramble over boulders to the nude cove next door. The KTEL Sounio coastal bus from Pedion Areos (about 1.5 hours) can drop you at the turn-off if you ask the driver, then walk about 500 m. Not wheelchair accessible.
What visitors say
Writers and visitors describe KAPE as one of the prettiest beaches within reach of Athens, with clear turquoise water, but warn that it is crowded on summer weekends and has almost no shade. The steps and boulder scramble are manageable but call for proper footwear. The cove next door is described as small and popular with nude bathers, with caves to explore. Common advice is to arrive early, bring an umbrella, water and snacks, and visit on a weekday if possible.

Legal context
Greece has no official nude beaches; nude bathing in the cove next to KAPE is an informal custom and is not authorised by any authority. We found no signs, ordinance or reports of enforcement here (checked 2026). Keep clothed on the main KAPE beach, which is a mixed, mostly textile beach.
Naturism at Kape Beach (Nude) sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Frequently asked questions
Where exactly is the nude beach at KAPE?
It is the small cove right next to the main KAPE beach. Go down the steps to KAPE and continue over the rocks and paths to the neighbouring cove.
Can I get there by public transport?
Yes. Take the KTEL coastal bus to Sounio from Pedion Areos and ask to be let off at the KAPE turn-off, then walk about 500 m along the dirt road. Check the last return bus time.
Is there parking?
There is a parking area at the end of the dirt road beside the canteen; it fills early on weekends.
Are there facilities on the beach?
No. There are no sunbeds, toilets or shops on either beach; a canteen at the top of the cliff sells basic refreshments.
Is it suitable for children?
The steep steps, rock scramble and lack of shade make it hard going for young children, and the cove is used by nude bathers.
