About Lagada Beach

Lagada (Lagkada) is a long, secluded beach in the bay of Makrigialos on the south-east coast of Crete, immediately east of Diaskari beach and a few kilometres west of the resort of Makrigialos, near the settlements of Analipsi and Lagada. The shore is soft sand mixed with small pebbles, and the clear water has patches of smooth rock on the bottom that can be slippery. A line of tamarisk trees behind the beach gives shade and privacy, and for that reason it is a favourite spot for free campers. Destination Crete notes that clothing is optional along many parts of the beach, so nude bathers are a normal sight; the eastern part of neighbouring Diaskari is also used by nude bathers. Unlike Diaskari, Lagada has no sunbeds, bars or other services, and it is exposed to the wind, which can bring waves. It is a good choice for those who want space and quiet away from the organised beaches of the Makrigialos and Analipsi resort strip, and stays relatively uncrowded even in summer.

Getting there

Lagada lies just east of Diaskari beach, which is about 27 km east of Ierapetra and 4 km from Makrigialos on the south-east coast. Drive towards Diaskari and continue east along the shore to the quieter Lagada stretch behind the tamarisks; our sources give no details on parking or buses, so plan to drive and park considerately. There are no paths, ramps or services, so bring everything you need, including water and shade, and expect wind.

Legal context

Officially, nudism is not permitted in Greece and there are no designated nude beaches on Crete; nude bathing on remote south-coast beaches is a long-standing, tolerated custom as long as it stays discreet. Lagada has no signage or official status; we found no reports of enforcement.

Naturism at Lagada Beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
