About Vithisma beach

Vithisma (Vythisma) is a small, isolated cove on the south coast of Alonissos in the Northern Sporades, south of Chora in the bay between Marpounta and Megalos Mourtias. It is a beach of pebbles and shingle that shelves steeply into deep, very clear water, framed by pine trees that give some natural shade at the back. There are no facilities at all. Vithisma is the beach most often named as the nude beach of Alonissos: the Swedish island guide Kalispera calls it the island's official nudist beach, and allovergreece notes that it is marked as a nudist beach and that you will not be the only one undressed. Nudity is the norm across the cove rather than in a separate section. Because the path down is steep and the beach is small, it never gets very crowded; visitors are mainly couples and naturists staying on the island, plus some arriving by boat from Patitiri. The surrounding sea is part of the National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades, so the water is exceptionally clean.

Getting there

From Patitiri or Chora, drive towards Marpounta and turn right onto a dirt road shortly before reaching the village; a small free car and scooter parking area sits above the beach. From there a rocky path of about 300 m drops steeply to the cove, and the climb back is hard work, so wear proper shoes and avoid it with bad knees. There is no public transport. Boat taxis and excursion boats from Patitiri are the easiest way in. Not wheelchair accessible. Bring water, food and shade.

Legal context

Vithisma is widely described as the island's nudist beach and is reportedly marked as such, but we found no municipal decision or official page designating it (2026). Nudity here is long-standing and accepted; no enforcement reports were found.

Naturism at Vithisma beach sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
