About Liginou Livadi

Liginou (Lingino), also called Didimes ('twins'), is a pair of almost identical small pebble coves side by side on the north-east coast of Patmos, about 12 km north-east of Chora and 3.5 km from the village of Kambos, near Vagia beach. The coves have clear water and a few tamarisk trees along the shore giving some shade. The beach is unorganised, with no sunbeds or umbrellas, though there are a few canteens in the wider area. Because it is remote and needs a walk from the road, it has long been one of the two Patmos beaches where nude bathing happens: Matt Barrett's Greece Travel guide names Psili Ammos and Liginou as the island's nude spots, and Beach Atlas describes Didimes as popular with naturists. Nudism is not entirely accepted on Patmos, which is a pilgrimage island centred on the Monastery of St John and the Cave of the Apocalypse, so discretion matters more here than on many Greek islands. Expect a quiet, mixed crowd of nude and clothed bathers.

Getting there

Drive from Chora north via Kambos; the trip takes about 25 minutes. Our sources give no parking details. Without a car, take the island bus to Kambos and walk about 35 minutes. The final approach is on foot down to the pebble coves and is not suitable for wheelchairs. Bring water and shade.

Legal context

Greece has no officially designated nude beaches and public nudity is formally not permitted. Patmos is a religious 'holy island'; Greeka notes nudism is not entirely accepted there, and allovergreece states it is forbidden on the island though common on some beaches. We found no specific municipal ordinance or reported enforcement at Liginou; be discreet.

Naturism at Liginou Livadi sits under Greece's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
