Baie Rouge Beach

Informal

Baie Rouge is a long beach of about 2 km on the west coast of the French side of Saint-Martin, in the Terres Basses area west of Marigot. It takes its name from the pinkish tint of its partly coral sand, which is strongest in late-afternoon light. Ochre cliffs and green hills frame the bay, with villas on the eastern cliffs. At the right-hand (western) end an erosion arch can be walked through at low tide, and beyond the eastern point lies Trou David (David's Hole), a collapsed sea cave popular for snorkelling; the rocky ends of the beach have the best reef fish. Baie Rouge is not a designated naturist beach. Island guides say topless sunbathing is the norm and that full nudity is common at the quieter ends of the beach, especially the far end by the rocks, while local residents note it is less common than at Orient Bay, the island's established naturist beach. The beach is popular with residents at weekends but large enough to find space, and it has been quieter since Hurricane Irma in 2017. Facilities are minimal; a few businesses on the eastern side may rent loungers and serve food, so bring your own supplies.

Calanque des Queyrons

Informal

Calanque des Queyrons is a tiny rocky inlet on the Marseilleveyre coast in the Calanques National Park, south of Marseille's 8th arrondissement. It is reached on foot along the coastal paths from Callelongue or Marseilleveyre, and there are no facilities. The flat limestone rocks and clear water attract a small number of nude sunbathers, who have used the area informally for decades. Bring water and shoes for the rough path, and avoid the hottest hours, when fire-risk closures can shut the massif.

Cap Taillat

Informal

Cap Taillat is a small wooded headland on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, joined to the mainland by a narrow sand isthmus, on the boundary between Ramatuelle and La Croix-Valmer. The site has been protected since 1993 and is owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, so there are no buildings, and the only way in is on foot along the coastal path or by boat. The isthmus has fine sand on one side and pebbles on the other, with Posidonia seagrass banks left on the shore that can smell in midsummer. Nude bathing here is a tolerated habit rather than an authorisation: one guide states that the Cap Taillat beach itself is officially off limits to naturists, and visitor comments report that naturism was tolerated on the Ramatuelle side but not on the La Croix-Valmer side, with police asking people to dress in 2015. Most nude bathers now use the small discreet coves along the path either side of the cape rather than the main isthmus beach, which is very busy with walkers, swimmers and anchored boats in summer.

Capo di Feno

Informal

Capo di Feno is a wild bay on the west coast of Corsica, north of the Îles Sanguinaires and about 20 minutes by road from central Ajaccio. Maquis-covered hills enclose it, with no development beyond a straw-hut snack bar. It has two beaches: the main Grand Capo, roughly a kilometre of fine pale sand, and the smaller, quieter Petit Capo (Sevani) just to the north. Nude bathing takes place on part of Grand Capo. Guides consistently place the naturist zone at the far left (southern) end as you face the sea, so walk that way from the car park. Families with children should bear that in mind before heading there. The bay faces the open sea and is one of the best-known surf spots around Ajaccio. That means real waves and strong currents, and in heavy swell swimming is dangerous, particularly for children. On calm summer days the water is clear and the beach feels much emptier than the town beaches along the Route des Sanguinaires.

Crique de la DOUANE

Unofficial

The Crique de la Douane is a small cove on the protected coast south of Ramatuelle, on the Saint-Tropez peninsula. It lies on the coastal path about 200 m past the Escalet headland and 600 m before Cap Taillat. The cove has fine white sand and clear, emerald water, between low rocky points covered in maquis and umbrella pines, with no buildings in sight. It is also called the Plage de l'Amour or Criques de la Douane, after the old customs house (douane) on the path. Ramatuelle's tourist office describes it as unsupervised and notes that naturism is tolerated there. Beach guides say nude bathing is accepted along the whole stretch from beyond Escalet beach to the customs house before Cap Taillat. The cove is little known and is used mainly by regulars and walkers on the sentier du littoral, so it rarely has the crowds of Pampelonne. There are no services, so bring water and shade.

Crique naturiste du Dramont

Informal

This is not a sandy cove but a stretch of red Estérel porphyry rocks on the Cap du Dramont, in Saint-Raphaël (Agay sector), facing the Île d'Or with its small tower. Naturists sunbathe on the smooth rock shelves past the spot known as 'La Cathédrale' (also called La Piscine or L'Esquine de l'Ay), below the Dramont semaphore. There is no sand and no facilities. The rocks are reached from the small Port du Poussaï by a forest path, and the coast here is rugged, with few beaches. Getting into the sea is very difficult and climbing back out is harder still. The site has a serious safety record: young people jump and dive from the Cathédrale rocks, and several have died, commemorated by a banner at the start of the path. A beach guide that lists the spot says it is very dangerous and recommends it only for walking. Camp Long beach and the Plage du Débarquement are close by. Naturists looking for an easier spot are usually directed to the Esclamandes beach at Agay or to the Cap Roux area further east.

Cupecoy Beach

Informal

Cupecoy is a small beach in the Lowlands at the western tip of Dutch Sint Maarten close to the French border, with nearby resort development on the land above. It is known for its sandstone and limestone cliffs, which have been carved into overhangs, caves and small coves. Erosion has changed the beach a lot. A 2021 guide estimated that most of the sand had gone in recent years, leaving pockets of beach separated by rock outcrops, and the sand still shifts with the seasons and the tide. Cupecoy has long been the Dutch side's unofficial clothing-optional beach. Nude sunbathers use the semi-private coves among the rocks, and the beach draws a loyal regular crowd. There is no designated nude zone and no official recognition, so expect clothed visitors and residents from the nearby condos. Facilities are minimal. Guides have mentioned an informal beach bar with drinks and chair rental, while others say there are no facilities. The sea can be choppy, and the beach faces west, so sunsets are a draw.

Côte Sauvage

Officially

The Côte Sauvage is the long, straight Atlantic shore of the Arvert peninsula, running north-west from La Palmyre toward the Pointe Espagnole and the Maumusson channel opposite Oléron, backed by high dunes and the pine forest of La Coubre. On the La Tremblade section, the Royan Atlantique tourist office says naturism is authorised between beach access post no. 10 at Pointe Espagnole and post no. 30 at La Bouverie (older listings gave post 32), so nude bathers spread along several kilometres of fine sand. The beach is open ocean, exposed to big swells and strong currents: it is popular for surfing, bodyboarding and surf-casting, and the tourist office stresses great caution when swimming; stay near the lifeguarded zone in summer. There is little shade beyond the dunes, and the crowd thins quickly the farther you walk from the car parks. The southern part of the coast (Les Mathes/La Lède) has its own separate naturist area.

Espace Naturiste de Paris

Officially

The Espace naturiste of the Bois de Vincennes is an official, seasonal naturist zone set up by the City of Paris in a public park on the city's eastern edge, in the 12th arrondissement. It was first opened in 2017, with the site chosen together with the Association des naturistes de Paris and the Fédération française de naturisme. Since then it has reopened each spring. It is a grassy meadow in the middle of the woods, just below the bird reserve, between the Allée Royale and the Route Dauphine. Wooden signs on the four paths leading in mark its edges. There is no water and it is not a beach. People come to sunbathe, picnic and read nude in the open air within reach of central Paris. A charter of good conduct is posted at the entrance, and the city states that voyeurism and exhibitionism are not tolerated. Naturists and clothed walkers can pass through, so the space is mixed. The Collectif Naturiste Urbain runs welcome sessions and group activities there.

Gouverneur Beach

Informal

Anse du Gouverneur is a horseshoe bay on the south coast of Saint-Barthélemy, below the hills of Lurin and a short drive from Gustavia. Steep cliffs and scrub close it in on both sides, giving the beach a sheltered, private feel. Behind the white sand there is no hotel or restaurant, which is unusual for the island. With Saline, it is one of the St Barth beaches best known for nude sunbathing. Topless sunbathing is normal across the beach. Full nudity is practised discreetly at the outer edges, especially the far ends of the bay, and the middle stays mixed and clothed. The island has no officially sanctioned nude beach, so this is customary tolerance rather than permission. Guides describe Gouverneur as quieter and more scenic than Saline and a good choice for couples. There are no facilities, so bring water, shade and food.

Gravière du Blauelsand

Unofficial

The Gravière du Blauelsand is a former gravel pit on the Rhine side of Strasbourg's north-eastern edge, in the Robertsau. It lies in an area of old gravel workings beside the river, towards the Port aux Pétroles and not far from the European Parliament district. The surrounding woods belong to the national nature reserve of the Robertsau and La Wantzenau forest, so the setting is green and largely undeveloped, with natural banks rather than a built beach. The French naturist federation (FFN) lists it as a naturist site with about 2 km of shoreline used for nude bathing. Bathing is unsupervised, and there are no facilities. It is the nude-bathing spot closest to Strasbourg on the FFN list. Bathers spread out along the natural banks. Sources do not agree on its distance from the city centre, citing anything from about five minutes from the Palais de l'Europe to about 10 km north of Strasbourg.

Happy Bay Beach

Informal

Happy Bay is a small, undeveloped cove on the French side of Saint-Martin, just north of Friar's Bay and between Friar's Bay and Grand Case. It is reached only on foot. It is a gentle curve of white sand with calm, clear turquoise water, framed by green hills on both sides, and a few tall palms give some shade. There are no bars, sunbed rentals or vendors, which makes it one of the quietest beaches on the island. Clothing is optional in practice. Guides list it as one of the island's main nude beaches, alongside the naturist end of Orient Bay. There is no designated nude section, so visitors choose their own spot and nude and clothed bathers share the sand. One naturist listing says nudity is most common on the right-hand (western) side. Calm conditions make it good for swimming and snorkelling. Guides describe it as small and rarely crowded.

La Grande Plage

Unofficial

La Grande Plage runs for several kilometres along the Atlantic side of southern Île d'Oléron, below the pine forest of Saint-Trojan-les-Bains. Close to the main entrance there are surf and sand-yacht schools and a lifeguard post. The island tourism office puts a naturist section of about 500 m just south of the ASSA17 lifeguard station. Beach guides also describe a quieter nude stretch further north, between the Passe des Sœurs and Passe de Trillou. Waves and rip currents (baïnes) are common, so swim with care. The far south near Pointe de Gatseau is closed to bathing.

Lac de Chalain naturist beach

Informal

Lac de Chalain is the largest natural lake in the Jura, a glacial lake near Doucier, Fontenu and Marigny, with very clear green-blue water and wooded slopes on most sides. The main bathing areas are the beach at Doucier and the beaches of the Domaine de Chalain campsite; the Domaine's north beach is open but not lifeguarded, while its south beach is supervised in July and August. An outdoor-activity guide states that naturism is allowed on one beach on the north side of the lake, with a sign marking the way down from the lakeside path, and another local listing says naturism is practised on some of the lake's beaches. We could not find the beach named or mapped in any official source, so treat the nude area as a small, informal spot along the north shore rather than a managed naturist beach, and expect clothed walkers on the path nearby.

Le Bau Rouge

Officially

Le Bau Rouge (also written Les Bau Rouges) is a small rocky beach at the foot of the cliffs west of Carqueiranne, on the Var coast between Toulon and Hyères, towards Le Pradet. It is the commune's only naturist beach and one of the oldest authorised naturist beaches on the French Riviera: Atout France records that it was officially authorised in 1977. The beach is roughly 200 m of stones and large smooth rock slabs rather than sand, below cliffs whose rock shades from beige through violet to wine red. The water is very clear, and the rocky outcrops and seabed make it a favourite with snorkellers, divers and sea-urchin gatherers. There is no lifeguard and no beach service, and swimming can be tricky in wind. Part of the beach, set apart from the rest, is frequented by gay men. Access has been the main problem in recent years: the long staircase that served the beach was reported closed in 2024 and 2025, and visitors have had to use a path further east.

Le Mont Rose

Informal

Le Mont Rose is an 84 m limestone hill and rocky spur at Montredon in Marseille's 8th arrondissement, between the Pointe Rouge marina, the Madrague de Montredon harbour and the start of the Calanques. It lies within the Calanques National Park, which notes that it is one of the driest sites in France and a hotspot for rare reptiles and plants. The park's own page says the site draws naturalists and naturists alike, a link it traces to the Marseille doctor and botanist Joseph Poucel (died 1971), a promoter of naturism in Provence. There is no sandy beach: bathers use flat rocks, small inlets and pebbly ledges at the water's edge, with pine and scrub behind. Gay travel guides describe it as a long-standing meeting place for gay and bisexual men as well as naturists, with the wooded slopes towards the old bunker used for privacy. Bathing is unsupervised, the shore drops off steeply, and the park advises swimming only in calm seas.

Les Esclamandes

Officially

Les Esclamandes is the largest beach in Saint-Aygulf, the seaside district of Fréjus on the Var coast: about 600 m of fine sand running north towards the mouth of the Argens river. The Fréjus tourist office divides it into four zones, one of which is a naturist zone; the others are a family area, a kitesurfing zone and an area where dogs are allowed. The naturist section is at the northern end, beyond the Bambusa beach bar and close to the river mouth, and is marked by 'Plage Naturiste' signs. Visitors report that it moved slightly in 2024. The sand is free of pebbles and the water is shallow and usually clear, though it can turn murky after rain with river outflow, and driftwood and debris wash up after storms. The zone is not policed, so clothed walkers, dog owners and kitesurfers pass through, especially in high season. Shade is minimal. It is a practical, easy-access naturist beach rather than a secluded one, used by local regulars, campers from the nearby sites and families.

Les Pierres Tombées (Sugiton)

Officially

The Crique des Pierres Tombées is a small rocky cove in Marseille's 9th arrondissement, immediately beside the Calanque de Sugiton inside the Calanques National Park. It is about 100 m of rock slabs and boulders below the cliffs, with no sand. Marseille's tourist office states that naturism here has been authorised by a municipal order since August 2022, and lists naturists as the cove's main users, so nudity applies to the whole cove. Getting there is part of the experience: it is about an hour's walk on national park footpaths from the end of bus line B1 at Luminy. Because of erosion from overcrowding, the national park has required free advance booking for Sugiton and Pierres Tombées on peak summer days since 2022, capped at 400 visitors a day in 2026. On 1 October 2025 a rockfall at the foot of a cliff on the access path closed the site; the tourist office reports it reopened after rock-clearing work, but its listing still showed 'temporarily closed' in May 2026. There are no facilities at the cove.

Naturist Beach of the Pointe Arcay

Officially

The Pointe d'Arçay is the long sand spit at the southern tip of La Faute-sur-Mer in southern Vendée, with views across the water to Île de Ré. The French naturist federation's list, published on France.fr, gives a 3 km naturist stretch here running toward the bird reserve that occupies the end of the spit; beach guides describe it as the largest naturist beach in Vendée, beginning beyond the Plage des Barriques. The beach is undeveloped sand with some pebbles, reached through the forest, with no lifeguards, cafés or toilets. The protected area at the tip is closed to the public, so stay on the beach side of any signs. With a long tidal zone and the length of the stretch, it is easy to find space; guides call it almost deserted even in high season, making it one of the quietest naturist beaches on the Vendée coast.

Naturist beach Bocal du Tech

Informal

The Bocal du Tech beach is a wild stretch of sand at the mouth of the river Tech, on the boundary of Argelès-sur-Mer and Elne between Saint-Cyprien and Argelès on the Roussillon coast. Behind it lies the Mas Larrieu national nature reserve, about 160 hectares of dunes, wetlands, reed beds and riverside woodland with a discovery trail and information panels. The beach next to the reserve is used by naturists, and nautical and gay travel guides describe it as naturist; one review places the naturist part on a section of roughly 200 m, while another describes about 700 m of fine sand shared by clothed and nude visitors. Neither the reserve nor the tourist board mentions a naturist designation. The sand is mixed with gravel and the beach shelves steeply, and guides warn that waves can be strong, so it is not ideal for small children or weak swimmers. The beach has a reputation as one of the gay-friendly spots of the Pyrénées-Orientales, and the reserve has been the subject of a rehabilitation project to channel visitor flows, so access paths may change.

Nudist beach Terrière

Officially

La Terrière is the northernmost beach of La Tranche-sur-Mer in Vendée, a wide sand beach about 2 km long that runs north toward Longeville-sur-Mer, backed by tall dunes and pine forest. The French naturist federation lists it as a naturist beach, and beach guides place the nude zone north of the lifeguarded section: past beach access 152, about 300 m beyond the lifeguard post, where a sign marks the area where nudists are tolerated. Further north the naturist zone connects with Les Conches at Longeville, which the federation also lists and says is reached through Terrière. This is open Atlantic coast: waves are often big, with holes and rip currents, so it is popular for surfing and kitesurfing and swimming needs care, especially outside the supervised area. The southern, clothed part of the beach has a summer lifeguard post, showers, toilets and restaurants; the naturist part has no services. Dogs are allowed outside the supervised zones.

Nudist beach in Hossegor

Officially

Hossegor's naturist beach is on the open Atlantic coast of the Landes at the northern edge of Soorts-Hossegor, where the town meets Seignosse. The French naturist federation, in its list published on France.fr, places the naturist area beyond the last supervised section of beach, at the boundary with Seignosse. The departmental beach guide lists it as a beach where naturism is specifically allowed and as supervised, with a surf school nearby. It is wild, fine-sand ocean beach backed by dunes, about 600 m from the Plage de la Gravière and 750 m from the Plage des Estagnots in Seignosse, both well-known surf spots. The Landes surf is powerful and currents can be strong, so swim only where and when lifeguards are on duty. A separate naturist area exists further north at Seignosse.

Plage Naturiste Des Montilles

Unofficial

Les Montilles is the long, wild southern part of the beach at Port-la-Nouvelle (Aude), stretching away from the town towards La Franqui and Leucate. The beach is very long (roughly 13 km of continuous sand) and unusually wide, with fine sand and no buildings near the naturist section. Heading south from the supervised town beach, the shore becomes progressively wilder and the naturist area begins about 1.5 km along, marked by a blue 'Zone naturiste' board and ending at a 'Zone naturiste tolérée' board. It was formerly the beach of the Côte Vermeille naturist campsite and became known as the favourite beach of naturist camper-van travellers, who used to line up on the hard sand; a municipal by-law bans wild camping and overnight camper parking, and later visitor reports say vehicles can no longer park on the beach itself. The atmosphere is calm, with plenty of room to find a quiet spot. Swimming is generally pleasant, and the town beach to the north has lifeguards in July and August.

Plage Naturiste d'Arnaoutchot

Officially

The Plage d'Arnaoutchot is the naturist beach on the Atlantic Côte d'Argent at Vielle-Saint-Girons, in the Landes, directly in front of the Domaine Naturiste Arnaoutchot. The domain sits in pine forest between the Lac de Léon and the ocean. Like the rest of this coast, the beach is a long, straight run of fine pale sand backed by a high dune, with open Atlantic surf. Regional guides call it probably the largest and best-known naturist beach in the Landes. It is a supervised (surveillée) naturist beach, which in the Landes means nude bathing is officially authorised there. Lifeguards cover a marked bathing zone in summer: in the 2026 season, from mid-June to mid-September, 11:00-19:00 in July and August and shorter hours in September. Showers and toilets are listed. The Landes tourist board notes that entry is through the naturist domain and is subject to its rules, so the beach works best for guests of Arnaoutchot or for visitors who arrange day access. The surf and rip currents typical of the Landes coast make swimming between the flags essential.

Plage Naturiste de Jaunais

Officially

Les Jaunais is a pair of beaches on the western edge of Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique), on the coast road towards Saint-Marc-sur-Mer, where the Loire estuary opens to the Atlantic. The main beach is a broad sweep of sand sheltered by a high dune, supervised in July and August and holding a Blue Flag. The naturist beach is the second, smaller beach to its east, hidden behind a rocky spur: the Saint-Nazaire tourist office states that this second Jaunais beach is reserved for naturists. It is a sheltered sandy cove framed by rocks, reached by a long flight of steps down the cliff, which keeps numbers down and gives it a secluded feel. Tides matter here, as on the whole Atlantic coast: at high tide the sand shrinks considerably. Reviewers report a mostly male crowd and a gay presence, alongside couples. There are no facilities in the naturist cove itself; toilets and a picnic area serve the main beach.

Plage Naturiste de La Maïre

Officially

The Sérignan naturist beach, near La Grande Maïre at the south-western end of Sérignan-Plage (Hérault), is one of the longest-established naturist beaches in France. It sits between the Orpellières nature reserve, a protected area of dunes and lagoons near the mouth of the Orb, and two naturist campsites, Sérignan Plage Nature and Le Clos de Ferrand. Boards marked 'Zone naturiste' define its limits. The beach is wide fine sand backed by dunes, with a gently shelving sea, and it carries a lifeguard post in summer. It has a strong family character: many of the visitors are families staying at the adjacent naturist campsites, and there is a beach-volleyball court for naturists. Walking north-east you pass the textile Sérignan Plage campsite and its beach. A northerly wind can be strong on some days. Sérignan's beaches held a Blue Flag in 2019.

Plage Naturiste de Torreilles

Officially

The Torreilles naturist beach lies at the southern end of Torreilles-Plage on the Roussillon coast (Pyrénées-Orientales), in the area known as Les Rôtes, and is the last authorised naturist beach on the French Mediterranean before Spain. The naturist zone covers about 450 m of sand between the lifeguard post and the mouth of the Bourdigou stream, which separates it from Sainte-Marie-la-Mer to the south. The beach is natural and undeveloped, backed by low dunes, with clear water that deepens quickly close to shore. Visitors are mostly couples in their fifties and older, with some singles and families; on a mid-August day in 2019 there were around a hundred naturists. There are no signs on the sand itself marking the zone's limits, so textile beachgoers occasionally wander in, and the beach reverts to textile near the Bourdigou. Wind can be strong on this coast. A family beach with beach huts lies to the north of the naturist section.

Plage Naturiste de la Batterie

Officially

La Batterie is a small naturist beach in Vallauris Golfe-Juan on the Côte d'Azur, on the coast between Golfe-Juan and Cannes, below the main coast road. It is not a single beach but a string of three small sections: a first area about 20 m wide reached through a passage under the road, then two narrow coves with fine sand to the left, and a further section reached by stairs. Most of the shore is large rocks and smooth pebbles, so reef shoes and a thick mat help. The water is clear and the view takes in the bay and the Lérins Islands off Cannes. The beach is looked after by a local naturist club affiliated to the French Naturist Federation, and France's official tourism site names it as a naturist beach tolerated by the municipality, frequented by Club Naturiste and Club Horizon members. The crowd mixes couples, families, older men and gay men, with gay men more at either end. A 2024 visitor counted about 40 people on a sunny weekday; Sundays get crowded.

It is a broad, gently sloping sand beach in front of a dune, backed by the Combots forest of tall maritime pines. The Royan Atlantique tourist office states that naturism is authorised on the stretch from beach access line 12 to line 15, heading towards Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. The beach is unsupervised, so there are no lifeguards, and this exposed coast has surf that draws surfers and bodyboarders, so swim with care. Plage Naturiste des Saumonards

Officially

The Plage des Saumonards is a long, undeveloped sandy beach on the sheltered east coast of the Île d'Oléron, facing the Pertuis d'Antioche, just north of the harbour village of Boyardville in the commune of Saint-Georges-d'Oléron. It runs for close to 3 km along the edge of the Saumonards state forest, with low dunes and maritime pines behind it and a clear view across the water to Fort Boyard and the Île d'Aix. Because it faces the sheltered strait rather than the open Atlantic, the water shelves gently. France's national tourism site says the northern part of the beach is given over to naturism; a beach guide describes a stretch of roughly 500 m where nudity is tolerated, but places it differently (in the middle of the beach, or toward Gautrelle at the north-west end), so expect to find the nude area by sight rather than by signs. There is no road along the shore, which keeps it quieter than the island's resort beaches. The beach has no bars or beach clubs; bring water and shade. Reports of men lingering in the dunes are a recurring complaint.

Plage Naturiste des Vieux Salins

Officially

The naturist beach of the Vieux Salins is a section of the long Plage des Salins (also called Plage du Pentagone) east of Hyères in the Var, facing the Îles d'Hyères. From Port Pothuau and the hamlet of Les Vieux Salins the sand runs about 2.5 km east towards La Londe-les-Maures, with a pine wood and the old salt pans (now a Conservatoire du littoral nature area) behind it. The area near the port is wide, supervised and family-oriented, with beach restaurants and mattress hire. The nude section starts about 500 m east of the port and runs for roughly 250 m along the pines; it is looked after by a local association, the Amicale de la plage naturiste des Vieux Salins de Hyères (APNVSH). The beach is sandy with fine shingle in places, the water is calm and shallow, and seagrass often washes up. Beyond the naturist zone the beach gets wilder and quieter. It sits on the long dune coast between Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Sion-sur-l'Océan, backed by high dunes and pine forest rather than buildings. The beach is broad fine sand with a very gentle slope: at low tide you walk around 100 m before the water reaches your waist. The naturist zone is in the northern part of the Salins beach, between two signs at either end; regulars describe it as fairly short, about five minutes' walk from sign to sign, and say it has shrunk over the years, so it gets cramped at high spring tides. It can also be reached by walking south-west from the neighbouring Plage des 60 Bornes. The southern part of the beach is used for kitesurfing. The naturist group here is long-established and the crowd is mostly couples and families; it is one of the larger naturist spots in Vendée.

Plage Naturiste du Petit Pont

Officially

Plage du Petit Pont is a wild Atlantic beach on the Vendée coast at the northern end of Bretignolles-sur-Mer, about 3 km north of the town, towards Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. It continues the long sandy shoreline north of La Sauzaie and is backed by a high, undeveloped dune that is private land and a Natura 2000 site, fragile and fenced in places. France's national tourism site notes that nude bathing is permitted here, and beach guides call it one of the best naturist beaches in Vendée. The beach is broad and long enough to find space even in mid-summer. Clothed and nude bathers share the sand, with naturists generally spread along the main stretch below the dune. There are no buildings or services on the beach itself, though a restaurant named after the Petit Pont is nearby. The Atlantic surf can be strong, and the naturist area is not supervised; some reviewers say swimming is prohibited, so check signs on arrival.

Saint-Selon is a small, wild cove below the cliffs of the Corniche Varoise, between Fabrégas and Cap Sicié on the La Seyne-sur-Mer peninsula. It runs about 200 m in several little bays of grey sand and pebbles, with very clear turquoise water and nothing built nearby. Because it takes real effort to reach, it stays quiet even in July and August, and the path down is marked with a naturist-beach sign. It suits fit visitors looking for seclusion. Bring water, food and shade, because there are no facilities at all.

Plage Naturiste du Luzeronde

Unofficial

Luzéronde is a long sandy beach on the north-west coast of the Île de Noirmoutier in Vendée, between L'Herbaudière to the north and L'Épine to the south, backed by dunes, the Bois de Luzéronde and the island's salt marshes. It curves for more than 2 km, with fine sand, some pebbles depending on the tide, and small sheltered coves towards L'Herbaudière. The northern part, near the sailing school, is a family beach with gently shelving water. Naturism is tolerated on the southern part, starting at the blockhouse and running towards L'Épine; reviewers place the start after two rows of wooden posts and say a sign marks it, though it is easy to miss. It is generally described as the only beach on the island where nude bathing is tolerated. The naturist stretch is quiet, wild and unbuilt, with dunes behind, and is popular for sunsets. Walkers heading to L'Épine pass along the shore, so the area is not secluded. Currents can be strong here at times, and jellyfish are reported in some summers.

Plage d'Aregno

Informal

Plage d'Aregno is the main beach of Algajola, a small village on the Balagne coast of north-west Corsica between L'Île-Rousse and Calvi. It is about 1.4 km of beige, fairly coarse sand that runs east from the village and its citadel, with the coast road and the Balagne railway line running behind it. The western end near the village is a busy, serviced family beach in summer, with restaurants, a lifeguard post, showers, toilets and water-sports hire. The nude area is not on this busy stretch. A gay travel guide places it just beyond the northern/eastern end of the beach, where the sand gives way to rocks, small dunes and maquis scrub, and a French beach directory lists the beach as having a naturist area and describes that end as calmer and more natural. The beach faces north-west into open sea, so it can be windy with waves, and it is used for kitesurfing and surfing. We found only a few sources on nude use here and none from an official body, so treat it as an informal, small-scale spot rather than an established naturist beach.

Plage de Bagheera

Informal

Plage de Bagheera is the long sand beach in front of the Bagheera naturist holiday village at Bravone, in the commune of Linguizzetta on Corsica's flat east coast between Aléria and Moriani. The coast here is a straight line of fine sand and low dunes that runs for several kilometres, with a chain of naturist resorts (Bagheera, Corsicana/Tropica and Riva Bella) each fronting its own stretch. The section in front of Bagheera is fully naturist and is used mainly by the village's guests, with the facilities and lifeguard cover that come with the resort in summer. South of the village the beach continues as a quieter, wilder public stretch. The sand is fine, the sea shelves gently and is generally calm, so it suits families and children, and the long shoreline makes for good walks. In Corsica nudity is generally tolerated only near the naturist centres, which is why this part of the coast concentrates so much naturist use.

Plage de Carataggio (Tahiti)

Unofficial

Current status: plages.tv says Carataggio, called Tahiti beach, is no longer a naturist beach, and points naturists to La Chiappa instead. Visitor reports on Wanderlog still mention some nudity at one end. Carataggio is a cove in the Piccovaggia area south of Porto-Vecchio in Corsica. BeachAtlas places it within the Bouches de Bonifacio nature reserve, notes posidonia seagrass, and describes good water quality. It was a naturist beach, and French guides link its decline to a beach bar, or paillote, set up on the sand, which pushed naturists out. Plages.tv describes the bar as the reason the beach is no longer naturist. I did not find a source giving the date the bar opened, nor a council, prefecture or court decision about it. Reaching it means walking through scrubland, and the sources do not mention facilities on the beach.

Plage de Chiorusa

Informal

Plage de Chiosura (often misspelt Chiorusa) is a long, wild sandy beach in Linguizzetta on the east coast of Haute-Corse, part of the Costa Serena stretch south of Cervione and north of Aléria that is home to several naturist holiday villages, including Bagheera and the beach at Tropica. Chiosura is little known and unsigned; it is bordered by Corsican maquis and a eucalyptus wood, with a few campsites behind it. The beach directory Bord de Mer lists it as an 'espace naturiste': naturists settle on sections away from the main access paths, while the area near the paths is used mostly by clothed families. With a short walk of about five minutes along the sand it is easy to find space away from neighbours. Nudity in Corsica is generally tolerated only near naturist structures and on beaches with an established naturist custom, so keep to the quieter sections.

Plage de Kerler

Officially

Plage de Kerler is a broad, gently shelving white-sand beach on the south Finistère coast at Mousterlin, in the commune of Fouesnant, east of Bénodet and the Odet estuary. It runs along a coastal sand bar closed off by dunes between Mousterlin point and the Mer Blanche lagoon, and looks out to the Glénan archipelago. Kerler has been an official naturist beach since 2004. It is a family beach where part of the sand is set aside for nude bathing. Nudity is allowed from 1 April to 31 October, from 10:00 until sunset. Guides describe a signposted naturist stretch of roughly 1.5 km next to the lifeguard post, though one LGBTQ+ guide puts the nude zone about a 30-minute walk west of the Mousterlin car park. Look for the signs on arrival. The beach holds a Blue Flag for water quality and environmental management. In July and August swimming is supervised by the Finistère fire and rescue service (SDIS 29). Behind the dune, the Mer Blanche is a protected lagoon and bird area. Being Atlantic Brittany, the water is cool even in high summer.

Plage de Kerminihy

Unofficial

Plage de Kerminihy is the longest beach in Erdeven, on the Morbihan coast of southern Brittany, a very wide strip of fine sand backed by dunes that runs east towards the mouth of the Étel river (the 'barre d'Étel'). The regional tourism board states that naturism is tolerated on the beach, and signs at the Kerminihy car park show the zones; naturism is not permitted on the dune crossed by the green cycle route or in the car parks. Naturism has been practised here for decades (one guide says since 1975), and the beach is shared with clothed visitors, with naturists tending to walk east towards the Étel estuary. Swimming needs care: the beach is unsupervised, swimming is at your own risk, and the eastern end near the barre d'Étel is closed to swimming because of dangerous estuary currents. It is better suited to sunbathing and long walks than to swimming with children. Dogs are banned from 1 April to 30 September.

Plage de La Fourberie

Informal

Plage de la Fourberie is the westernmost beach of the Dinard–Saint-Lunaire stretch of the Emerald Coast in Brittany. It actually lies in the commune of Saint-Lunaire, between Port-Blanc (Dinard) and the Pointe du Nick, and is easy to recognise from the old white navigation tower above it. It is a small, quiet sandy cove backed by rocks, reached by the coastal path or a ramp at the end of Rue Émile Bergerat. In July and August it is a normal lifeguarded family beach with toilets and a first-aid post, so the nude use is confined to one end: naturist guides describe a small rocky cove at the western end, near the rocks, where nude sunbathing has long been tolerated. One guide instead tells visitors to walk to the far end heading east, so the exact spot is worth checking on arrival. The nude corner is small, so it can feel crowded with only a few people. It is a tolerated practice, not a designated naturist beach, and the main beach remains textile.

Plage de La Redoute

Officially

La Redoute is the naturist area of Merville-Franceville-Plage, on the Calvados coast east of the Orne estuary, a short drive from Cabourg and Ouistreham. The long beach of Merville-Franceville is split into zones: a lifeguarded swimming beach towards the town centre, then a kitesurf zone, and finally, at the western end near the mouth of the Orne at the place called La Redoute, a stretch reserved for naturism. The nude area sits in front of high, attractive dunes that give shelter from the wind, and it is marked by signage and tall white posts flying the flags of the French naturist federation. It is one of very few naturist beaches in Normandy and is described by the regional tourist office as officially recognised. The big drawback is that swimming is banned here: currents at the estuary mouth are strong, and the beach is unsupervised, so most visitors come to sunbathe and walk rather than swim.

Plage de Lourtuais

Officially

The Plage du Lourtuais (also spelled Lourtouais) is a sheltered cove on the eastern flank of the Cap d'Erquy in Côtes-d'Armor, Brittany, inside the protected classified site of the cape. It is about 400 m long, with fine sand that has a pinkish tint from the local sandstone, and it sits below heath-covered cliffs of gorse and heather with no buildings in view. France's national tourism site singles it out as one of the few Breton beaches where naturism is possible. Only the left-hand part of the beach (looking out to sea) is used by naturists; the right-hand side is for clothed bathers. At low tide the sand widens into a large expanse, but at high tide the beach shrinks considerably, so check tide times. The water is clear and cold by Mediterranean standards. There are no facilities, and the steep path down keeps numbers modest. Cliff walks on the GR34 coastal path around the cape are an easy add-on.

Plage de Maez an Aod (Beg Léguer)

Informal

Maez an Aod is a small, wild beach at the mouth of the Léguer estuary, below the rugged cliffs of the Beg Léguer headland west of Lannion, on the Côte de Granit Rose in Brittany. It faces west across the bay of Lannion, so it catches the afternoon sun and the Atlantic breeze, and the GR34 coastal path runs along the top. Rocks split the beach into two coves: one is used by families, while the other is customarily used by naturists, as the Brittany regional tourism board notes. Nothing has been built here: there are no lifeguards, no cafe and no toilets, and the sand is backed by boulders and granite outcrops. The neighbouring beach of Goas Lagorn, a short way along the coast, is easier to reach and lifeguarded in summer, which keeps Maez an Aod quiet even in August.

Plage de Mateille

Plage de Mateille is the long sandy beach of Gruissan in the Aude, on the Mediterranean coast south of Narbonne, separated from the resort by the Étang de Mateille. The beach is a mix of textile and naturist zones: the naturist sector is a marked stretch in the northern part of the beach, identified on the sand by blue flags. The rest of Mateille is a normal family beach with a lifeguard post. The setting is flat and open, with fine sand, low dunes and lagoons behind, and almost no natural shade. Guides describe the naturist part as fairly wild and often less crowded than you might expect for such a well-known beach. The zone has had a municipal authorisation since 1993, and the blue flags make the boundary with the textile beach easy to see.

Pampelonne is the 4.5 km sweep of fine sand on the east side of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, below the hill village of Ramatuelle and facing east over the bay. From north to south the bay is divided into sectors: Tahiti, Les Moulins, Les Tamaris, Patch, Les Barraques and Bonne Terrasse. By municipal decree, two portions of the bay are authorised for naturism: Gros Vallat, the large northern zone reached by the route de l'Epi, where nude and clothed bathers mix, and Matarane, in the Tamaris sector at the end of the chemin de la Matarane. Guides also describe a nude area in the middle of the more family-oriented Barraques sector, and Neptune Plage, a beach restaurant affiliated with the French naturist federation (FFN), welcomes naturists from April to the end of September. Plage de Pen Bron

Pen Bron is a sandy spit at the southern end of La Turballe in Loire-Atlantique, running towards Le Croisic between the Atlantic and the Guérande salt marshes. Its dune system is the most remarkable on the department's coast; it is a classified site and part of Natura 2000, and part of the dune belongs to the Conservatoire du Littoral. Naturism has been practised here since at least the 1970s on the ocean-side stretch level with the salt marshes, away from the hélio-marin centre near the tip, where swimming is banned because of strong currents at the Pointe de Pen Bron. The beach is fine sand with some rocks, sheltered from westerly winds by the dunes, and has no facilities. Several visitors in 2015 reported that the naturist zone was shortened to make room for a kitesurf zone, so the nude stretch is now a few hundred metres long. The crowd is mostly couples and regulars, with a noticeable share of single men.

Plage de Pissevache

Officially

Plage de Pissevache (often spelled Pissevaches) is a stretch of wild sand beach on the Aude coast in the commune of Fleury, just north of the resort of Saint-Pierre-la-Mer. It lies between the Pissevaches lagoon, a small salt pond behind the dunes, and the La Grande Cosse campsite, with the Cabanes de Fleury naturist area further north beyond a short textile strip. The beach is long, flat and backed by low dunes, with fine sand and a gently shelving sea. The naturist section begins roughly 600 m north of the lagoon path junction, at a small white 'Zone naturiste' sign, and becomes more isolated the further north you walk. Nude bathing here has a long history: the commune authorised it in 1974, when access was linked to the naturist centre of La Grande Cosse, but that centre was sold in 2016 and reopened as an ordinary campsite in 2017, so today the beach is used by independent naturists. It is spacious and quiet; on a mid-August day in 2019 about a hundred naturists were spread out at wide intervals. Kitesurfers also use this coast and some visitors feel they are squeezing the naturist area.

The southern end, near the sailing centre, is a family beach with shallow, gently shelving water and summer lifeguards. Towards the north the beach becomes wilder, bordered by several ponds, and the last stretch near the Rizzanese mouth is used by naturists; across the river lies the undeveloped Capu Laurosu beach. The sand is mostly fine and pale, though some visitors found patches of small stones. It can be windy, and in bad weather the surf becomes dangerous. The naturist section is the part closest to the thalasso centre and is relatively short, about 250 m, after which the beach becomes textile and continues south between the Terrenzana and Diane ponds towards the wild Tallone shore. Naturism applies from early April to early November, matching the resort's season. The sand shelves gently into usually calm water, suitable for children, and the lagoon setting gives the area a quiet, natural feel. San Giuseppe is a long, wild sand beach on the Gulf of Sagone in western Corsica, in the commune of Coggia, about 4 km beyond the hamlet of Tiuccia on the D81 coast road from Ajaccio to Cargèse. It runs for more than a kilometre and is backed by low dunes and dense coastal scrub, with the mouth of the Liamone river marking the boundary between the Casaglione beaches to the south and the Sagone side. Nude bathing is tolerated in a zone just north of the Liamone mouth, on the Sagone side of the river, away from the main access points. The sand is fine and the beach faces west over open water, so sunsets are good, but the sea here is exposed: the Liamone area is known for strong currents and rough water, and swimming is considered dangerous on windy days. The sand is fine and the beach is wide, especially at low tide, with surf rolling in from the open ocean. The main, lifeguarded section is around the access path from the forest car park, where a seasonal snack kiosk operates. The nude section is not at the main entrance: beach guides place a stretch where naturism is tolerated roughly 700 m north of the lifeguard post, around an old bunker at the foot of the dunes. That part is far quieter and gets a mixed crowd of naturist couples and single men; one gay travel guide describes it as popular with gay visitors from June to September, with its entrance between the dunes and the forest near the bike park. Plage de Tropica

Informal

Plage de Tropica lies on the flat eastern coast of Corsica in the commune of Linguizzetta, Haute-Corse, part of the long sandy shore that runs between the Bravone area and the Tavignano plain. Linguizzetta is known as the main naturist centre of the island: the naturist estates of Bagheera, Riva Bella and the Corsicana holiday village sit along this coastline, and Tropica is the beach in front of Corsicana, which is why some guides call it Plage Corsicana. It is a long, straight strand of fine sand backed by low dunes and Corsican maquis, with a gently shelving sea that is usually calm in summer. Compared with the large beach at Bagheera it is quieter and more natural: a naturist booking site describes it as moderately busy and without any facilities, and the beach guides that list Linguizzetta's naturist beaches include Tropica among them. In Corsica naturism is in practice tolerated near naturist establishments, and this shore is used nude by guests of the villages and by visitors who walk in. Without a bar, toilets or shade on the sand, it suits people who want space and quiet rather than services.

The setting is wild: several kilometres of fine sand backed by very high dunes and pine forest, with no buildings, snack stands or beach rentals in sight. The section on the left (south) as you reach the sea is used by the naturist village and is kept for full nudity, with a lifeguard post run for the village's guests; the beach to the right is open to everyone and is described as unsupervised. In practice nudity is common along both parts, with some clothed walkers mixed in. The beach attracts naturist couples and families from the village, day visitors from Bordeaux, and on weekends a noticeable gay crowd, with cruising reported in the dunes behind the beach. Like the rest of this coast it faces open Atlantic swell, so rips and strong shore break are a real hazard outside the supervised zone. It is a good choice for people who want a long walk on an empty, natural beach rather than facilities.

Plage de la Mitre

Informal

La Mitre is a string of small coves on the edge of Toulon's Mourillon district, west of Fort Saint-Louis and facing the Petite Rade and the naval anchorage. The main beach, a former military beach opened to the public in 2004, is a short stretch of fine gravel and some sand with a lifeguard post in summer, and the coastal path (sentier du littoral) links it to smaller rocky inlets. Nude sunbathers use the area reached by following the coastal path to the right from the main access, around the former 'plage des Militaires' at the bottom of a flight of steps past the rocks. It is one of two places in Toulon cited for naturism; the other, near Cap Brun, carries a sign forbidding it. The setting is urban, with views of warships and ferries, and the water quality can suffer from harbour traffic: a visitor reported oily slicks in July 2026. It suits a quick swim from the city rather than a day out. Expect clothed walkers on the path and families at the supervised main beach.

Plage de la côte bleue FNI, FKK

Informal

The Calanque des Anthénors (also spelt Athénors), next to the Calanque des Figuières, is the naturist cove of Ensuès-la-Redonne on the Côte Bleue west of Marseille. The Côte Bleue is a chain of small limestone inlets between Marseille and Carry-le-Rouet, joined by the GR51 coastal path, and Anthénors is a pebble cove between cliffs with clear turquoise water, good for swimming and snorkelling. The beach is not entirely naturist: a few naturists use the far end of the cove, while the rest is used by clothed bathers. It is relatively isolated and quiet, partly because cars are restricted at weekends in summer. There is no sand at all, and sea urchins are common, so water shoes are recommended. The cove is listed in gay travel guides as well as general beach directories.

Plage de l’Arène

Informal

Plage de l'Arène is a small, little-visited cove on the east side of Cassis, at the foot of the Cap Canaille cliffs, surrounded by pines and vineyards. The main beach is made of large pebbles and rocks rather than sand, so getting into the water can be awkward, but the seabed is rich in fish and the spot is known for snorkelling, diving and spearfishing. Nude use is not on the main cove: east of it, along the base of Cap Canaille, a few tiny beaches and rock ledges are used by a handful of naturists. A visitor in 2022 reported that the nude part was signposted and reached simply by walking east. These micro-beaches are harder to reach and sit below crumbling cliffs, and guides warn of rockfall, so do not settle directly under overhangs. Expect a quiet, wild setting with a small, mixed crowd, very different from the busy town beaches and calanques west of Cassis.

Plage des Cabanes de Fleury

Unofficial

The Cabanes de Fleury naturist area is a section of the long sand beach south of Les Cabanes de Fleury, a small fishing hamlet at the mouth of the river Aude in the commune of Fleury (Aude). From the beach entrance by the lifeguard post, the textile beach runs south for about 350 m until a board marks the start of the 'zone naturiste', which continues towards the former La Grande Cosse campsite; beyond that, past a strip of textile beach, lies the separate Pissevache naturist area. The sand is fine, the beach is broad and flat, and the sea shelves gently. Being the closest naturist stretch to a large car park and a campsite, it is the busier of Fleury's two naturist areas: in August it can feel crowded, with naturists close together and textile bathers spilling into the zone from the small textile section. Boats often anchor offshore in summer and their crews sometimes come ashore in swimwear. Expect a mixed crowd of couples and families in high season and much more space in June and September.

Plage des Casernes naturist area (Seignosse)

Informal

Plage des Casernes is the northernmost and wildest of Seignosse's Atlantic beaches on the Landes coast, between Hossegor and Le Penon to the south and the long undeveloped shore towards Vieux-Boucau to the north. It is a broad beach of pale sand backed by a high dune and the pine forest, with no buildings in sight, and it is best known as a surf spot with schools operating in summer. A zone used for nude sunbathing lies about 400 m north of the lifeguard post, beyond the supervised bathing area. Swimming is not permitted in the naturist zone: the Landes coast has powerful currents and baïnes (shifting sandbank channels), so anyone who wants to swim should return to the flagged area in front of the lifeguard post. The naturist stretch is used by naturists and is also known as a gay meeting spot; the whole beach is quiet outside July and August. There is no shade, the wind can be strong, and the sand is hot in summer.

Plage des Chevrets

Informal

Plage des Chevrets is a large sandy bay at La Guimorais in Saint-Coulomb, on the Emerald Coast between Saint-Malo and Cancale (Ille-et-Vilaine). It is backed by the Chevrets dunes, with a campsite and a restaurant on the dune in the middle of the bay, and at low tide you can walk out to the islets of Petit and Grand Chevret. The main part of the beach is a supervised family beach with water sports in summer. Nude sunbathing takes place at the far right (eastern) end towards the Pointe du Meinga, from the old blockhouse to the large rock formation, where rocks and small coves give some privacy and the textile beach is clearly separated. However, beach directories report that a Saint-Coulomb municipal by-law prohibits naturism here, so the practice is only tolerated and could be challenged. The bay has big tides typical of the Saint-Malo area, so the sand at the naturist end largely disappears at high water. A 2015 user comment asked the commune to define and signpost a naturist zone; no such zone has been reported since.

Plage des Grottes

Officially

Plage des Grottes is the only real beach of Héliopolis, the naturist village on the Île du Levant, the easternmost of the Hyères islands off the Var coast. Less than a tenth of the island is civilian; the rest is a military zone run by the defence procurement agency and is closed to the public, so the beach, the village and the coastal path form a small, self-contained world. The beach is a modest cove below the village, with a sandy strip and rocks on either side, and it is described as the island's only sandy beach. Clear water and rocky edges make it good for snorkelling. It is reserved for naturists: the regional tourism board states that swimwear is not tolerated here, and a gate marks the entry to the naturist-only zone. National tourism material notes a municipal authorisation from Hyères dated 14 March 1978 covering La Plage des Grottes specifically. Elsewhere in the public part of the island nudity is broadly accepted, except on the port and around the village square, where a sarong or similar is expected. The other recognised naturist bathing spot is the rocky Bain de Diane. Expect a mix of long-standing residents, holiday-home owners and day visitors in summer.

Plage des Lays

Officially

Plage des Lays is a remote Atlantic beach in the south of La Barre-de-Monts (Vendée), on the long dune coast between Fromentine and Notre-Dame-de-Monts. It sits at the end of a 2.5 km track through the pine forest, with no buildings in sight, and is one of the few beaches in the Saint-Jean-de-Monts area where the official tourist office says naturism is permitted. The tourist office describes nude use as tolerated on the southern part of the beach; naturist guides say the naturist sector starts roughly 200 m to the left of the access path. The beach is a wide expanse of fine sand backed by dunes, with large tidal range typical of the Vendée coast; the water can be far out at low tide. Its neighbour to the south, Plage de la Parée Grollier, has similar status. The walk keeps crowds modest, though some visitors complain of voyeurs and say it is less suited to families than official family naturist beaches.

Plage des Pissarelles

Unofficial

Plage des Pissarelles is a small rocky beach in Cap-d'Ail, between Nice and Monaco, tucked into the Saint-Laurent bay beneath the high cliff known as the Barre des Pissarelles. Long described as the best-known naturist beach in the Alpes-Maritimes, it has no road access and no signs, and is often confused with the Saint-Laurent d'Eze beach about 100 m away. The shore is mostly large rocks with narrow strips of pebbles and a few small sandy patches; people also lie on a concrete slab and the stairs. The water is very clear and turquoise, good for snorkelling, but the cliffs put the beach in shade early in the afternoon. A small freshwater spring runs near a house on the right. Visitors are predominantly men, with mixed couples too; regulars describe a relaxed, almost entirely nude atmosphere. Sundays are the busiest days. In 2019 the commune temporarily banned bathing while the access staircase was rebuilt; users reported it repaired in 2020.

Plage du Layet

Unofficial

Plage du Layet, also called the Anse du Boucanier, is a small cove on the Corniche des Maures about 6 km east of Le Lavandou's centre, just before Cavalière, below the D559 coast road towards Saint-Tropez. It is the best-known naturist beach in Le Lavandou and one of the best known in the Var. A short crescent of fine golden sand sits between the rocky Pointe du Layet and wooded slopes of umbrella pine, eucalyptus and mimosa, with smaller coves around the rocks of the point. The water is clear and turquoise, which reviewers single out as unusual for this busy coast. A beach restaurant on the sand, Chez Jo, serves fish and bouillabaisse at lunchtime in several sittings and is part of the beach's identity; it even fetches diners by boat. Because the beach is small and famous, it is packed in July and August, and some naturists complain that clothed visitors have become numerous. Out of high season it is calmer and has a family atmosphere.

Plage du Liouquet Naturiste

Informal

Plage du Liouquet is the last beach of the Bouches-du-Rhône, at the eastern edge of La Ciotat just before the Var border and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer. It lies in a small bay beneath the Corniche du Liouquet, a residential road above the cliffs, with pines along the back. The beach is mostly pebbles and stones with patches of sand, and the sea floor is rocky, so getting into the water is awkward and water shoes help. Stairs from the corniche land you in the open part of the beach. To one side, a stretch below unstable conglomerate cliffs has been closed with barriers and signs because of rockfall risk; this closed section is where naturists have traditionally gathered, and some long-time visitors call it one of the largest nude spots in the area. In practice textile and nude bathers mix on the accessible part too, depending on how busy it is. On summer weekends the small open area fills with clothed bathers, while off-season and weekdays it is quiet. There is no lifeguard, shop or toilet on the beach.

Plage du Monaco

Informal

Plage du Monaco is a small bay on the coast of Le Pradet, just east of Toulon in the Var, set below pine-covered slopes between the Pin de Galle and Bonnettes coves. The main beach is about 200 metres of coarse sand and fine gravel that drops off fairly quickly into clear water; it is a family beach with a seasonal lifeguard post and a Blue Flag. The naturist area is not the main beach but the coves at its northern end, on the opposite side from the old naturist zone, which was moved within the beach around 2016. France's national tourism site describes the naturist use as tolerated by the municipality and long supported by the Monaco-based naturist association Mer et Soleil. Accounts from visitors describe a regular, mostly middle-aged crowd with a family feel, rocks and pines giving some shade, and a few people walking through from the textile beach to look. A gay guide says the section beyond the old blockhouse is popular with gay naturists while the other part is mixed and family-oriented. A petition has campaigned against moving or closing the naturist beach, a sign that its status depends on the town's tolerance.

Plage du Trayas - Nudist beach

The Trayas naturist beach, usually listed as the Cap Roux naturist beach, is a small wild cove on the east side of the Cap Roux headland at Le Trayas, in the commune of Saint-Raphaël (Var), about 19 km from Saint-Raphaël and 11 km from Théoule-sur-Mer. It lies on the Corniche d'Or, where the red porphyry cliffs of the Esterel drop into the sea, and is often described as the only naturist beach in the Esterel. The shore is about 200 m long and very narrow, made of brown pebbles and stones with a pebble seabed, and split into several small bays among the rocks. The water is clear and turquoise, deepening moderately, with few boats, and some corners are sheltered from waves. The cove is not signposted and sits just below the coast road, the railway and some houses, so it feels secluded rather than remote. Crowds are moderate in high season. Plage naturelle de Maguelone

Unofficial

The Plage de Maguelone is an 8 km natural sand-and-shingle strip on the Hérault coast in Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, a few kilometres south of Montpellier, between Palavas-les-Flots and Frontignan. It runs on a narrow lido between the Mediterranean and the Prévost and Pierre-Blanche lagoons, overlooked by the medieval Maguelone cathedral on its former island. There are no roads along it, and it is one of the least built-up beaches in Languedoc. The record marks a point roughly 2 km south-west of the cathedral, on the stretch towards Frontignan where the shore becomes mostly pebbles. Beach guides describe the beach as split into sectors: a classic beach near the cathedral and car park, a naturist stretch and a gay section. In practice nude and clothed bathers mix peacefully, and the farther sectors are almost empty even in July. The seabed drops off a few metres from the shore. A seasonal lifeguard post is about 300 m past the cathedral car park, and two private beach clubs operate on the strip. On summer days, many boats anchor offshore along the less accessible sections.

Plage naturiste d'Opale de Berck

Unofficial

Berck-sur-Mer, on the Côte d'Opale in Pas-de-Calais, has a naturist stretch on the wide, flat beach north of the town centre, on the way towards the Baie d'Authie. Past the supervised family beaches and the line of Second World War blockhouses, the beach becomes wilder, backed by dunes that are part of the protected Espace Naturel des Dunes of more than 300 hectares. A local swimming club's 2026 guide to Berck describes this northern section as a naturist beach more than 1 km long, reached by following signs for 'Plage Nord-Nature' and parking at the Terminus car park. It is one of the few naturist beaches in Hauts-de-France. The sand is fine and the tide goes out a very long way, exposing huge flats; sand yachts and clothed walkers cross the area, especially at low tide, so it is not exclusively nude. Swimming here is not recommended: there are tidal pools and soft, waterlogged patches of sand, and no lifeguards. Seals can be seen resting on the sandbanks further along the bay, best observed from a distance.

Bonnieu is a naturist beach on the Côte Bleue at Martigues, between the EDF power station at Ponteau and the fishing villages of Carro and La Couronne, west of Marseille. Unlike most French naturist beaches it is run by a club: the association Martigues Nature Soleil (MNS) manages the site, and in season it is reserved for members, with nudity required everywhere except for children. The shore is gravel and rock rather than sand, with clear water and rocky points on either side. The association keeps toilets, a pétanque and volleyball area and a small snack bar that often hosts themed evenings, giving it the feel of a family naturist club by the sea. The atmosphere is family oriented and the club's internal rules are strictly enforced, with permanent exclusion for serious breaches. Keranouat (also spelled Kerannouat) is a long, wild beach on the south coast of Trégunc in southern Finistère, between Concarneau and Pont-Aven. It is backed by the dunes and ponds of Trévignon, a 300-hectare protected natural area where dune snails, green lizards, songbirds and ducks live, and on clear days the Glénan archipelago is visible offshore. The beach is a broad stretch of white sand; part of it is the naturist area, entered past a group of rounded granite boulders that screen it from the rest of the beach. The official Brittany tourism site lists it as a naturist and wild beach where naturists can bathe legally. It is unsupervised, and the sea is the open Atlantic, so currents and the tides need attention. It is about 3 km of golden sand backed by dunes and the pine forest that covers this part of the island, with no seafront buildings. The island's tourist office states that the northern part of the beach is reserved for naturists; beach guides place the nude stretch north of the village, towards the Passe des Sœurs and Passe de Trillou, well away from the main access. The southern end near the village is the busy, supervised section, with a first-aid post, a beach-access mat, surf and bodyboard schools, a bar-restaurant and toilets in season. This is an exposed ocean beach: there are waves most days, surf, kitesurf and sand-yachting run all year, and currents (baïnes) form with the tide, so swim only where lifeguards are posted. It is the only beach in the Manche department where naturism is authorised. The naturist strip is about 300 m long, marked at each end by a sign, and lies south of the textile family area near the car park. The setting is wild: high dunes on a protected coastline, wide sand flats and the estuary behind. Being on the Channel coast with large tides, the sea retreats a long way at low tide, leaving a long walk to the water and, according to some reviewers, a faint smell from the flats; there are also some rocks, so footwear helps. Plage naturiste de la Réserve Naturelle du Bagnas

This is the stretch of fine sand on the Mediterranean at the boundary of Marseillan and Agde, in front of the Bagnas national nature reserve, a wetland of lagoons and dunes. Naturists use the whole reserve shoreline, which is free to access, unlike the village. The commune of Marseillan says this beach is not officially naturist and that the naturist zone starts after the reserve, and a sign midway marks the reserve boundary rather than a nude zone. Even so, visitors report it is used almost entirely by nude bathers: mixed near the campsites, then a mostly gay section, then a 'libertine' stretch closer to Cap d'Agde. Plages du Ricanto et de Capitello

The Ricanto and Capitello beaches form the long sandy curve at the head of the Gulf of Ajaccio in southern Corsica. The town end is busy and supervised in summer, with beach bars and rentals. Beach guides consistently say the far end is used by naturists: from beyond the airport runway to the foot of the Capitello tower, plus a few small coves just north of the tower. This naturist section is quieter and mostly sand with some pebbles, but the setting is less wild than many Corsican beaches, with aircraft landing behind the dunes and cargo ships offshore. The crowd in the naturist zone past the tower and rocks is reported to be mainly male, while the area near the Capitello car park is family-oriented. The water is clear on calm days, and the gulf view towards Ajaccio is wide.

The Pointe d'Agon is a sandy spit at the southern end of Agon-Coutainville on the west coast of the Cotentin (Manche, Normandy), facing the Havre de Regnéville estuary. It is a protected natural site owned by the Conservatoire du littoral: dunes, salt meadows grazed by pré-salé sheep, and a white lighthouse with a red roof. The beach here is the wildest in Coutainville, with fine sand that stretches for several kilometres northwards. Naturism has been practised at the point for many years, historically by visitors from northern Europe. The commune authorised it from around 2014-2015: the southern part of the beach, to the left of the Cale de la Moulinière slipway, is set aside for naturists. In 2016 the mayor told regional radio that naturism is allowed on the beach but banned in the dunes. The tide goes out a very long way here, exposing oyster and mussel beds, and swimming is only possible around high tide. There is no shade, no lifeguard and no infrastructure. The site sees more than a hundred naturists per season, so it rarely feels crowded.

Roughly 1 km long, it fronts the naturist quarter of Port-Leucate, a peninsula of independent naturist residences and villages (Aphrodite, Oasis, Ulysse, Le Mas de la Plage and others) reached by bridges over the channel; the tourist office presents Leucate as one of the main naturist destinations in the south of France. The beach is fine sand backed by small vegetated dunes, with a few coves, and the sea is generally clean. Unlike most French naturist beaches it is reserved for naturists: clothed sunbathing is not expected here. It is supervised by lifeguards in summer, at a central post and near the breakwater by the Aphrodite village. Camping Naturiste Arnaoutchot

Private Resort
resort

Camping Naturiste Arnaoutchot, also called Domaine Naturiste Arnaoutchot, is a naturist campsite in a pine forest of about 45 hectares near Vielle-Saint-Girons in the Landes, south-west France. The site has direct access to a private naturist beach. Facilities reported in reviews include a heated indoor pool, a spa and a sauna, a supermarket, restaurants and a cinema. Capacity figures differ: one listing mentions more than 500 pitches, and a regional listing gives a total capacity of 1,500. The season runs from 1 April to 27 September, according to the listing sites. One listing notes that new visitors may be asked to be introduced by a family who has stayed for at least three years, so it is worth phoning ahead. One listing leaves the naturist box unchecked, which conflicts with the site's naturist status. A French naturist guide describes it as a naturist campsite, but I did not confirm its federation membership. Confirm current rules and prices directly with the campsite.

Héliomonde

Héliomonde at Saint-Chéron in the Essonne was long known as the only naturist campsite in the Île-de-France region. It no longer appears to operate as one. The site, about 45 km south of Paris, is a 47-hectare wooded estate on the Route de la Petite Beauce. It now trades as La Forêt d'Azalée, a family campsite in the ClicoChic group, and the old heliomonde.fr address redirects to the new website. That site promotes mobile homes, chalets, a covered heated pool with slides, an outdoor pool, a sandy beach, a play area, a gym and a restaurant-bar. It does not mention naturism. The booking link still carries the code 'heliomonde91', and chalet sale listings on the estate describe it as the former Héliomonde campsite. As a naturist site, Héliomonde had tent, caravan and van pitches, rented chalets and mobile homes, and a spa with sauna, hammam and hot tubs beside an artificial beach. It was usually open from April to September. Older directory pages still list it under the naturist name. The sources we read do not give the date of the change, who bought or now runs the estate beyond the ClicoChic branding, or why naturism ended. The reason for the change has not been published.

Laws & local rules in France

Public nudity in France is permitted exclusively in designated naturist zones (officially recognised naturist beaches and centres). Outside these zones, nudity is criminalised under French Penal Code Article 222-32 (exhibition/indecent exposure). The legal framework distinguishes between "naturism" (controlled, designated areas) and "public indecency" (general public spaces). France has 150+ member clubs offering naturist accommodations and 50 holiday centres with official status.
