About Plage Naturiste de la Lède
Plage de la Lède is a wild Atlantic beach in Les Mathes, south-east of the resort of La Palmyre on the Arvert peninsula, facing the open ocean and the Cordouan lighthouse at the mouth of the Gironde. It is a broad, gently sloping sand beach in front of a dune, backed by the Combots forest of tall maritime pines. The Royan Atlantique tourist office states that naturism is authorised on the stretch from beach access line 12 to line 15, heading towards Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. The beach is unsupervised, so there are no lifeguards, and this exposed coast has surf that draws surfers and bodyboarders, so swim with care. Access is free all year, and dogs are banned by municipal order posted at the entrance. A cycle path runs through the forest less than 500 m away.
Getting there
Access is from the avenue de Royan at La Palmyre, where there is a free car park, bicycle parking, and space where motorhomes are permitted. From there, a path crosses the pine forest and dune to the beach; walk to the access lines numbered 12 to 15, towards Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, for the naturist section. A forest cycle path passes less than 500 m away. The final stretch is soft sand over the dune, with no step-free access.
