About Lac de Chalain naturist beach
Lac de Chalain is the largest natural lake in the Jura, a glacial lake near Doucier, Fontenu and Marigny, with very clear green-blue water and wooded slopes on most sides. The main bathing areas are the beach at Doucier and the beaches of the Domaine de Chalain campsite; the Domaine's north beach is open but not lifeguarded, while its south beach is supervised in July and August. An outdoor-activity guide states that naturism is allowed on one beach on the north side of the lake, with a sign marking the way down from the lakeside path, and another local listing says naturism is practised on some of the lake's beaches. We could not find the beach named or mapped in any official source, so treat the nude area as a small, informal spot along the north shore rather than a managed naturist beach, and expect clothed walkers on the path nearby.
Getting there
Lac de Chalain is about 20 km south-east of Lons-le-Saunier by the D39 and D27 through Doucier. Parking is at Doucier beach and around the Domaine de Chalain; sources describe paid parking at the lake in summer. A signed path follows the shore, and the outdoor guide says the naturist beach is signposted from it on the north side. There is no practical public transport, so a car or bike is needed. Expect forest paths rather than a paved promenade; not suitable for wheelchairs.

Legal context
In France nudity outside a designated naturist area can be prosecuted as sexual exhibition (Code pénal art. 222-32), though tolerated spots are common. One outdoor guide calls naturism 'officially authorised' on the north beach, but we found no municipal order or Jura Tourisme listing to confirm it (checked 2026).
Naturism at Lac de Chalain naturist beach sits under France's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Researched 24 October 2026. No official source confirms naturist status, so treat it as unverified.
