About Plage du métro
Plage du Métro is Tarnos's wild Atlantic beach at the southern tip of the Landes coast. Its dunes are protected under Natura 2000, and apart from a car park nothing is built here. The lifeguarded swimming area is textile. Naturists go north, outside the flags, past the old wartime bunkers towards Ondres, where nude use goes back to the 1980s. The surf and currents are strong, so take care if you swim away from the supervised zone. The beach has a reputation as a gay meeting area as well as a general naturist one.
Getting there
Car park at the end of the beach road (Placette du Métro), Tarnos; bike parking, supervised in July-August; seasonal Txik Txak bus. Walk north along the sand beyond the lifeguard flags and bunkers.

Legal context
The Landes tourism board describes an area 'traditionally left to naturists' north of the beach, i.e. tolerated rather than formally designated. Lifeguards cover only the textile zone, mid-June to mid-September.
Naturism at Plage du métro sits under France's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
Full country law: France public nudity guide.
Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
