About Les Esclamandes
Les Esclamandes is the largest beach in Saint-Aygulf, the seaside district of Fréjus on the Var coast: about 600 m of fine sand running north towards the mouth of the Argens river. The Fréjus tourist office divides it into four zones, one of which is a naturist zone; the others are a family area, a kitesurfing zone and an area where dogs are allowed. The naturist section is at the northern end, beyond the Bambusa beach bar and close to the river mouth, and is marked by 'Plage Naturiste' signs. Visitors report that it moved slightly in 2024. The sand is free of pebbles and the water is shallow and usually clear, though it can turn murky after rain with river outflow, and driftwood and debris wash up after storms. The zone is not policed, so clothed walkers, dog owners and kitesurfers pass through, especially in high season. Shade is minimal. It is a practical, easy-access naturist beach rather than a secluded one, used by local regulars, campers from the nearby sites and families.
Getting there
Saint-Aygulf is on the D559 coast road south of Fréjus. Several paid car parks serve Les Esclamandes; from the parking near the beach bars it is a one- to two-minute level walk to the sand, then a short walk north to the signed naturist zone near the Argens mouth. Campsites along the river are within walking distance. The approach is flat, with some soft sand near the naturist area. The main beach has lifeguards in season, showers and toilets; the relocated naturist section reportedly has no showers.
What visitors say
Visitors like the easy access, fine sand and shallow water, and say the naturist zone is relaxed and mixed. Common complaints are clothed passers-by and dog walkers crossing the zone in summer, driftwood and debris after storms, and the loss of showers after the zone moved in 2024. A long-time regular felt conditions have declined over the years. Bring a parasol, as there is little shade; drinks and sunbeds are available at the nearby beach bars.

Legal context
The Fréjus tourist office lists a naturist zone as one of the four designated zones of Les Esclamandes, and the zone is signposted on the beach (checked 2026). Nudity is lawful inside the signed zone; it is not enforced as nude-only, so clothed people may pass. In France simple nudity is lawful only where it is authorised or customary; elsewhere it can be prosecuted as sexual exhibition (Code pénal art. 222-32) or breach a municipal order.
Naturism at Les Esclamandes sits under France's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
